i actually really love the middle pickup on my yamaha pacifica for jangly stuff like r.e.m. and the smiths. the bridge pickup in single coil mode is a bit harsh, and the neck pickup sounds kinda thin (might want to change my pickups), but i've found that on that specific guitar, the middle pickup gives me the perfect bite and jangle for that kind of music, while still sounding full
@@MillerCustomGuitars well position 3 on a 5 way blade switch accomplishes that. i would like to maybe add a switch to turn on the neck pickup when im in the bridge position, but i wouldn't be sacrificing the middle pickup.
@@owenandrew8108 I like designing weird wiring setups. On my Strat with Fishman Fluence pickups, I modified the switch to automatically switch to voice two on the neck and bridge position, but be in voice on for position 2-4.
Sorry but, it's far easier & cheaper to swap out a pot for a push-pull one that simply turns the neck pickup on (or add a DPDT toggle switch). This also provides an additional 'all pickups on' setting. There's also the Freeway switch that provides 10 selection options.
You were right on both accounts. However, I have done a toggle switch, and also done the Gilmore mod. That’s not what I was looking for on this guitar. Like I mentioned in this video, I never ever use the middle pickup by itself, so why not why are the switch up with a setting that I will actually use?
I hate the middle pickup because I always hit it with the pick. I rest my palm on the bridge a lot and it puts my pick right over the middle pickup. I don’t play my strat for that reason so I’m removing the middle pickup.
There are positions other than 2 & 4? 😄 Seriously, I really like this mod. I’d been thinking I’d eventually get one of those Freeway switches, but this plus a push/pull to switch the 2-pickup combos between series & parallel might be a better choice.
@@MillerCustomGuitars Yeah. I’d been wanting a Tele with a 4-way for years, & last year I finally got one. Now, I’m convinced that it should be standard on Teles instead of a mod. So that’s what got me to looking into series mods for a Strat too.
I want the middle pickup gone on my HSS I want it to be an HS and have warmoth make me a new pickguard i dont even need the split switch but it would be cool. Its a mexican made strat 3 tone burst Im changing out the off white pickguard for a black one but leaving the 2 pickups white ... the middle one can go in the trash for all i care .

I find this so ineriguinging! Maybe it’s the pickups on that specific guitar. I’ve never found a middle pickup I liked by itself.
@@MillerCustomGuitars it may be my amp settings or pickup hight or something but yea ive come to like the sound of it very much

Like, why isn't this the default already? Or even make it turn on all the pickups. They're not wired to be additives anyway.

This is a complicated question. Are you still trying to get the middle pickup with the bridge and neck in the 2 and 4 positions?
