This video has alot of footage that predates 1981. In a lot of shots you can see where they're building the frame work of Nationwide's Plaza 2 (280 Plaza). Plaza 2 completion year is 1981.
EXCELLENT video footage, I would like to reiterate the point made about our old friend the caboose, I sure do miss them. So sad they had to be replaced by a little box with a blinking red light, “end of train telemetry”.
I live in Columbus and it's interesting seeing this now. All those towers are gone, Buckeye Yards is gone, Panhandle gone, a Conrail line coming into Springfield from Columbus is gone, the B&O line that went to Cincinnati isn't used much.
Correct. The large glass building was built atop the site of Union Station (which is a hotel...currently a Hyatt Regency...not sure what it was back then).
@@cbehr91 They built a large Federal building on the Atlanta Terminal Station site, and built the Atlanta Journal/Constitution newspaper building on the Union Station site, around the corner. Like Columbus Union Station, they were over-the-tracks depots downtown.
@@dennis-ul5ht CR did much the same to the former PRR west of Crestline rebuilding engine facilities in Fort Wayne and upgrading the track only to reroute most of the traffic north to the Chicago Line despite longer routing and pulling up one track. That's Conrail for you.
The early 80s was a wild time down at the docks good video 👍
I was born in 1981. It's crazy - I'm considered old by many today.
Typical old person answer
Definitely brings back memories. Thanks for sharing, always was fascinated by trains.
Wow thanks for the memories, I miss OL blue, and seeing the caboose on every train.

I miss waving at the men in the caboose...
Beautiful old railroad station in the small town of Roseville OHIO about an hour south east of Columbus.
Yes indeed

I live in Ohio Columbus!
I vaguely heard Hall and Oates’s version of “You Lost That Lovin’ Feelin’”.
that was Gone 4 months Later all Panhandle Traffic shifted to the Fort Wayne Line West of Alliance
What happened to the PRR panhandle line east of (now razed) buckeye yard?
Part of it sits mothballed, most of it was passed to a regional railroad (Ohio Central).
Thanks
Is where that large new building sits, seen here, the old Union Station site?

🙏👏
Could Conrail not afford to maintain the Panhandle?
They deemed it redundant.
After Conrail spent $150 million on the Piqua Line they abandoned it in 1985...
They didn't need it.They have the Big Four/Beeline to Indy and St Loius
