  • YZ10R comes to life and gets a shakedown run.
    In this video, I button up the last few jobs before fitting some electronics in my TRICKBITS vintage race buggy YZ10R. After that, we are off to the track to give the buggy a shakedown to check everything is working as it should before running the buggy in anger.

    Not sure about vintage racing, but this what ROAR (US) posted in 2021:
    ROAR is revising the minimum weight requirement for 2WD and 4WD 10th Scale Electric Off-Road Buggies to bring our requirement in line with that of IFMAR, the world regulating body for RC motorsports. Effective immediately, the minimum weight will be 1474 grams for 2WD Buggy and 1588 grams for 4WD Buggy (current weights are 1499 and 1613 respectively). This change will allow ROAR racers to compete throughout the year at the same weight as will be used for World Championship events.

    No minimum weight limits in vintage racing, otherwise a would have to be sticking loads of brass onto the cars as they were designed for running nicad or nimh cells which are a lot heavier than lipos.
    Here in the UK we specifically limit how much weight you can add to the chassis, we allow 50g in stick on weights only because if you allow brass parts you can radically alter the weight distribution to a more modern balance, and the rule was specifically created after cars were produced with whole gearboxes machined in brass.

    That's a beautiful buggy, Gav. Nice to see it turning some fast laps at the track, too.

    I was looking forward to seeing this car turn a lap or two. To my untrained eye it looked pretty good, once into the turns it hung on like a limpet.

    The heavy cars go better.
    That is why you see people running full size lipos in some of the vintage cars and you are limited on how much weight you are allowed to add to a vintage car, has to be stick on weights so is easy to see how much you have in there. No additional brass parts

    On carpet and with a modified motor you don’t need to chase weight at all.
    I’m really looking forward to see where you end up with your setup.
    Racing my L1evo on carpet I’d go with heavy roll bars all around. Removing them sounds counterintuitive to me, but I am curious now. Can’t wait for the next video

    we still run a silver can kyosho g27 or a g2x in vintage class to keep the cost down and to make them like the were in the day

    Remove the sway bars for carpet? That's the opposite of the norm. I'm not really understanding why you would do that.

    With little set up it looked super smooth! I wonder how that compares to the egress with the same electrics in it weight wise?

      Yes you can get parts and it was designed to be raced so that's the plan.

    Your yz r looks 100 times nicer then the yz now out from yokomo and associated...
    I really don't understand something. Was this originally a yokomo car of a associated car? Is this co-op the rere of the yz10? Or can yokomo do it's own alone also like the dog fighter was done by them.. 🤷

    • @RCKickschannel
      @RCKickschannel  19 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yokomo car

    • @techspeedrc
      @techspeedrc 19 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The YZ10R here has nothing to do with Yokomo or Associated. It's a modern buggy that has been designed and manufactured by Trickbits that looks like a late 90s YZ10.
      It's fitted with Yokomos latest big bore shocks, with a range of springs manufactured for the car, and has altered suspension geometry to suit modern electrics and tracks. It runs a modern Avid slipper clutch. It has a small race team that is developing the buggy and creating setups for its customers.
      The one thing this definitely is not is a vintage buggy, nor is it a rerelease.

    I wonder, is a buggy classed as actual vintage if its completely built today with no vintage parts at all, would it be even eligible for vintage racing, seems like cheating aye...

    • @RCKickschannel
      @RCKickschannel  19 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Apparently this is 100% vintage legal. It was one of the most scrutinized race cars and checked for period correct mods and upgrades before it was allowed.
