This was a memorable season for every Liverpool fans. We could've win CL & PL with this team that season. But at the end, there's no luck for us.
Gerrard injury ruined our season. If he was fit all season we would have won both. Shows he was head and shoulders above the rest.

that barcelona squad thrashed Real Madrid really easily as well. 6-2 at bernabeu and 2-0 at camp nou. They won la liga with 10+ points. Real that year got knocked out at copa del rey by a team of second division. the fact that you won 4-0 that Real does not mean by any chance you could win that Barca side. I am not even a Barca fan, its just crazy what you say 😂. Gerrard, Torres and Alonso were fantastic but still I think xavi, iniesta, Henry and Eto'o and Messi were just too good. And what did even the lack of luck have to do at the tie at Chelsea?
Benayoun really is underappreciated, these replays show both his ability and his relentless dedication to the team. Great Klopp-ish player!

The fact that he managed to hold his own in a midfield that had the likes of Gerrard, Mascherano, and Alonso says a lot about what a fantastic player he is. One of my absolute favourite LFC players from that team/era.

Gerrard made quite a few players world class. Torres was just so good , probably the best forward in the world for 2-3 years. So daring and accurate instincts.
Torres was a once in a lifetime player man he was a fantastic goal scorer

Youssi Benayoun one of the most underrated players of the Prem era.
This is the season we were so close to win the premier league. Came in second place. I still remember watching every matches live and excited for torres my favorite player when i was 12. So much memories

Your a kid so I understand that you don’t even know your history but let me educate you for a minute, to qualify for the European cup you had to have won your domestic league, in the 5 years of the ban, Liverpool won 3 titles Everton won 2 so you never would have even qualified. There was a competition for the first year of the ban called the football league super cup which United were in. In it they lost to Everton and Norwich, didn’t even get out of their group and Liverpool ended up winning it by beating Everton 7-2 over a two legged final.

2008/09 was my first season of football and first year with Liverpool. That squad was something special man. I was heartbroken when Alonso left.

Alongside the 13/14 season that was my favourite squad to watch.
How good Gerrard was really is legendary. I’ll never forget what a player he was for us, just sensational and this is only one season.

The season that made 8 year old me absolutely fall in love with football. What a squad we had, top to bottom the starting 11 was full of class. If we had just a little bit more squad depth, could iron out those draws and Manchester United weren’t at the peak of their powers, we would’ve run away with the league.

A magical season. That 4-1 in Old Trafford was the game of my life. It still hurts we didn't won the title. To much draws in games we didn't had the strengh to pull out a 1-0 with a defender's header. Sadly the other side had.

Imho, Suarez still better all around since he also made assists and playmaking. But understandable that the team while Suarez there was not as complete as this 08/09 team so Suarez need to do almost everything.
But inside the box, this Torres is scary! He can score almost any goal even in tight space

Only one team in PL history lost the title after leading by christmas, Liverpool, and we did it not once, but 3 fucking times! Damn this season will feel so good.
Thanks to this season i was 11 yo when i saw liverpool play for the first time on TV and i've never walk alone again

We had david ngog as backup lol, what annoys me is he scores 3 goals in 2 games, and looks like hes finding form, and is then dropped for the next few games
Completely agree, although you can tell it was a board signing opposed to Rafa signing him.
Rafa is trying to show his power to the board. Eventually he shot his foot with his decisions. He tot that he's indispensable
Since 06/07 Benitez get crappy forwards/strikers mainly. Hell Voronin, Ngog, Babel, Bellamy, elderly Fowler. Crouch and Morientes werent exceptional either. He didnt want Owen back and quickly sold Keane.
Didn't know that he was a board sining. Remember that a plan was to have Robbie and Barry at a left side. But it was a shame that he was sold so quickly. He had a shaky start, but he catch a momentum with a few goals, and then he sand back to Spurs. I belive that we would won the league that year if he stayed.

As United fan i really like this Liverpool side.. Kuyt n Benayoun were underrated.. Gerrard Alonso Mascherano were great midfield partnership.. Torres was deadliest..

He was finding his form near the end of the year, but once again another blunder from benitez. Without keane, we only have torres and kuyt as first team striker (there is n'gog and el-shar, but they are youngster at the time)
