Some people crack SGC slabs to send the cards out to regrade from PSA. PSA has a bigger reputation and cards sell higher than other grading companies. Just my though.

YESS I crack my psa slabs open with a sledgehammer they are just to ugly im going to go with a nicer looking slab with premium plastic

not good. get larger clear plastic bag and crack the slab/perform opening within the bag. you don't want that stuff flying into your eye let alone if you have pets at home eating it off the ground!!!

another pro-tip (like you mentioned , in the end) :
crack the slab inside a plastic bag .. clean, safe and not plastic going everywhere
