Hello again from the capitol of Illinois, Wilco, and thanks so much for narrating the excellent hike around Delfzijl, Marsum Uitwierde, Appingedam and more. It was not only beautiful, although on "een grauwe dag" but very informative. Although an Appingedam native, (immigrated as a preteen)my wife never knew most of this history. My Dad was a salesman in the 1950s who regularly traveled that area, and I accompanied him many times, but neither was I aware of the cold war bunkers and radar installations. Fascinating! Thank you for making the extra effort to tell the story of the places you allow us to see with a new eye. Your narration makes the videos come alive even more. That church was still in beautiful shape inside, with the Kansel still intact. For privacy reasons we don't do social media much, but we can still communicate this way.

Hi mr. Reebs, love your comments! Thank you! I think in those days not many of us [or our parents] knew about all the warpreparations. I started my job at Economic Affairs in 1982 in The Hague - and it was only after a few years that my colleagues and i realised that beneath our offices we had 3 or 4 [hidden] floors extra!
You mention my effort to tell the story here - i do love to do that. Though still a bit unsure what a general public expects. Rule of fist for the moment: first of all show the objects! - and don't make it a talkshow. But appreciate all comments. A tastes do differ of course.

Yes, the images are critical and the commentary should be complementary to that. And not everyone has the same interests, you’re right. Additionally, it must be very hard and tiring to hold the camera, hike and talk at the same time. So, thank you for making that effort.

Weather looks very similar to us in the North East of England, although we have had a lot more snow. I know I have mentioned this before but I cannot get over how flat everything is. Another couple of nice old church's, quite different from the ones in the UK but what a contrast to the old Cold War bunkers. Always good to get out, despite the weather, cheers Alan

Ha ha - the dogs were doing a bit of defending of their own Wilco. Very topical of them! I must say your churches look so young....not at all mid 12th century. It must be the brick. Hey it would be good to get into them bunkers....another time maybe. Your knowledge never stops impressing me Wilco....you must do some reading. Another good historical walk. All the best as always. Mark

Whenever/whereever i visit Mark, always trying to get at the local history & reading up on it!
I think the relatively prosperous period of 1150-1250 in the Low Countries was an era of rebuilding earlier churches - a make over from half-timber & clay to brick [and sometimes stone]. Also a period of reclaiming & colonizing the former wastelands [hence many new churches too]. Thx for your remarks!
