I have done over 500 weddings at a Holiday Inn, was one of the Banquet mangers, I created our wedding showcases and created countles backdrops, centerpieces etc!!! Got tired of not being appreciated so I quit 🙃. Now its my time to show what I got!!! 😉😃😊🥰🤩 Your video has help me a lot. Thank you!!!
Sometimes local, smaller businesses are kind enough to provide you with some decor i.e. rentals, local venues might allow you to shoot at their locations, cake vendors have fake cakes too.
Love your video, I got my recent event done at Mazze Banquet, the way these people were passionate about their work motivated me to start doing it myself
Needed to see this video. I've decorated countless events just for the love of doing it without the thought of taking pictures. I would usually remember to photograph after the fact 🙄. This is confirmation for me to just do what I want to do creatively and shoot away.
You’re not alone when I do events for family + friends...I’m so busy doing out of love that I forget until it’s all done too! I’m so glad this video reaffirmed your passion and creative abilities. Definitely keep it up!! 🖤
I just want to say that I absolutely love your videos and have been binge watching! lol. You are so informative and helpful, I am on my own event planning journey and am a mother of 2 boys. Your videos have been giving me the confidence of actually starting my own business. So grateful I stumbled upon your videos! Keep doing a fabulous job and creating content wish you noting but success and happiness!
You're always such an inspiration to me!! I have fallen off from my designs 1) because I started teaching 🙄 and 2) I'm such a perfectionist with my crafts that it hinders me from showing off what I can do. I'm hoping to continue to create style shoots because that's what got me hired to do 2 baby showers this year. Thanks for your inspiring words of wisdom as always😍❣
Aww you are too sweet! It happens, it can get so hard to keep up when you have to stay on track with "actual" work. The bills gotta get paid, and I 100% am in the same boat with you and the perfectionism. Both reasons why sometimes my videos aren't so consistent. I honestly am not happy with a single video I've ever posted 🤦😂 We just have to try our best to produce content, and remind ourselves there's no such thing as perfect! I think it's nice for you since you're a teacher to set your shoots around the holidays and breaks, since you know you'll always get them off! Your a testament to the fact that styled shoots really work and can drive business. Keep up the hustle love!! Thank you so much for supporting my channel and taking the time to comment, it means a lot to me! ❤
That’s great! I plan to do at least one this coming year. Did you advertise/promote your styled shoots as one (i.e. did u tell folks it was one)? Do u have an IG or website so I can check out your work? Thank u!
@@BashBesties I adore our conversations because it keeps me motivated. I think when it comes to teaching, I'm always keeping my "job" first (which is good...I guess🙄) but you're definitely right about using my breaks as a way to get content out there. I finally recorded something for NYE and it's been 4 months since I've done anything. THANK YOU for constantly writing back as well. It means a lot to know I have someone who can help me and keep me motivated, although we may be miles apart! Keep up the great work❣
Hi Gloria, that's great! It really does help, not only with photos, but just as practice for your styling skills in general too I've noticed over time. Oh absolutely not, no need to in my opinion. It's merely a sample of your work, no need to specify on your site that it wasn't an actual party for an actual client. Let them come to whatever conclusion they want on their own. In my opinion, it's only being deceitful if they specifically ask you and you lie. I doubt anyone would ever really ask directly anyways. If they did, I would just simply say something to the extent that this display was a styled event you put together for business promotion. I display most of my styled shoots (which I really only do children's stuff) and such on my blog themakeovermom.com, or my IG: @TheMakeoverMom. I'm trying to upload more content, especially some I have from the past. This year it's really my goal to have this channel and content running consistently and on schedule so you guys have more content to browse! ❤
Yes, girl we'll keep each other motivated, cuz Lord knows I need some too! I struggle with keeping up content here for the same reasons, my "real job" comes first, but reading your guys comments really helps me keep going. Thanks so much for always supporting the channel and engaging, it really does mean the world to me! I'm heading over to check out your NYE video now.
Yesss, styled shoots are the way to go! Sometimes they can get a lil pricey if you try to do something grand, so you have to be careful about that since it’s not for a paying client. But it’s the best way to build your portfolio in my opinion. Welcome, glad to have you sis! 💕
Hi thank you so much for your videos. They are very helpful. I was wondering when do clients pay you. Do they pay you before you plan their event? Or after?
Hello Crystal, of course and thank you so much for watching! Yes, they pay before. You'll accept the deposit to book the event, some people will additionally have multiple installment payments until the party. I do not though. I do one deposit and the Remaining Balance before the event because my clients usually book like a month before hand. I'll collect the balance the week of the party and the day of though sometimes to if clients wish to pay in cash. Most planners will have a mandatory policy that payment is due 14 days before the event. You never want to collect payment after the event is finished because some clients will have you runnin after them to get paid!
I really appreciate the tips!!! In the next video do you think you can go over goodie bags?? I guess bang for your buck kind of thing. I’ve learned so much from you and your guides on Etsy!!!! Hopefully I will start my business soon.
I'm so glad!! That's a really good request, I haven't paid much attention to goodie bags topics. Are you thinking more for kids or adult party favors? So so appreciative you're supporting my channel and that you purchased the guide. It's so good to hear that you're working through them and they are helping, it means so much to me! Best wishes, let's try to get you started this year, you can do it! ❤
@@BashBesties I'm thinking more of kids party. I find I like decorating for kids better. Thank you so much. Your guide definitely helped me organize my thoughts and ideas. I feel like I definitely need more help to completely kick off. But at least I have started now. Thank you so much
Got it, I prefer kids as well. It's a little more fun in my opinion, not as many boundaries. What kind of additional help are you looking for? I'm working on finally finishing up a whole course, would love to know what other topics you find you need a little more information on?!
Just a thing I am interested in event management but I don't know a lot of contacts of the vendors nd all so who to contact them? Or make enough contacts
I use a lot of Photoshop mostly if that counts as special. I would say no, I really use the same kind of basic software most everyone has access to. I do have a very nice and expensive Cricut though that I just haaaaad to have, that I need to start using way more often lol
This is great stuff I am Just beginning to start my Event planning business. I specifically want to offer hula hooping parties I also want to do paint and sip. I have a lot of the supplies I would need I just have never had any clients. I am trained in fine arts and certified hula hoop teacher. What do you suggest? Definitely going to do the photo shoots as you’re describing. Should I offer to do parties at a discount if I could get the experience in reference?
Hey hello. Loads of love I m from India and want to setup my business of event planning. What is the first thing I should do after I planned out what to do? Request to guide me more
Hello Alejandra, it was really exciting! I just threw up a website and did a fake party photoshoot with my nieces. I knew I was doing all the right things, but I still couldn’t believe someone really wanted to book with me. Also, my anxiety and nerves kicked in….because I’m pretty sure I didn’t charge a deposit. At that time I was offering spa parties, so I just grabbed a couple family members bought some pink scrubs I could find so we all looked in uniform…and hoped for the best! I have a video on my first events vs some of my last. If you’re serious about getting started and have a lot of questions, I recommend you join my online course on “How to start and brand your business in under 30 days.” Here’s the link for more info: misseventplanner.mykajabi.com/party-biz-academy-101-pre-sell-landing-page Hope to see you there! 💕
Do you have any degree or certification for event planning? I’d like to start event planning however do I need a degree for business or any certification for this?
i come from graphics and i sell merch for celebrations and after setting up 3 baby showers and one gender rev free for our friends i tough oh heck this could be a business... i tough to buy 2/3 backdrops table covers etc and start xx what do u think is the basic to buy to start ?
Very helpful video.. I subscribed your channel.. I’m planning to start event decor business.. I want to know few things.. who will provide chairs and table for the events and chair covers..? If decoration is based on special theme .. who will get the theme based cake, cup cakes and return gifts too..
Thank you love! So, if you are going to be an event decorator it's likely you will have to either work with the chairs and tables at the venue or rent them from a 3rd party vendor. Some decorators start to build their own stock and can even provide chairs and tables themselves to save money over time. Well I know some decorators who make treats as well, but if you don't want to handle that you'd get those made by a baker and display them on the cake table. Or you can just set up the cake table with the treat stands and let the client secure their own treats to put on there!
Hi Tamika, don’t let not having a venue stop you! I started out of the garage like most other planners. Start putting together styled events to build your portfolio, and/or volunteering to plan family/friend/work/church events until you gain your own clientele. It can be done love! 💕
