    Unrelated to event planning but adjacent to the situation, this is why when someone books a service from me (brows lashes etc) I always have them book online which REQUIRES them to put in their CC on file and fill out a form saying they cannot cancel or move their appointment 24 hrs prior to or they will be charged the full price. People will take advantage if you let them!

    • @BashBesties
      @BashBesties  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      They definitely will! Especially in the service based industry. You are running it the right way. That’s why using a great booking software is an asset and making sure your clients sign an air tight contract. There’s a lot more tools available now than there use to be even a couple years ago. I think the reason many planners run into the problems more often til this day is because a lot of us still do all of our own bookkeeping by hand (scheduling, invoicing, etc)...so that’s where there is more room for clients to take advantage. I think we’re a little behind in the industry because sometimes booking software can be costly for the amount of clients small planners have and also because pricing of each service from client to client/event to event ranges so significantly. I know a lot of people run the business under the table too and don’t like to leave a credit card trail as well. But the online booking system is definitely the best way to automate scheduling and deposits like you mentioned hands down! 👌🏼

    Oh no!!! My heart goes out to you. I have dealt with similar situations- and for what ever reason find myself feeling guilty for asking for the agreed upon amount and collecting it. You almost feel like people don’t respect a small business owner enough to pay you.... but your work or word of mouth referrals interested them enough to want to book you in the first place. You are a phenomenal business owner that has a big heart. Isn’t it sad that the ‘potential’ client didn’t have the decency to let you know they couldn’t afford it or no longer needed your service. Thanks for sharing. Your heart was in the right place, so you will recover the amount you lost and more. Have a Blessed Thanksgiving!!

      Lovely to have you! I think pricing is never something you truly overcome. Once you think you’ve got it down, new services and trends emerge, your skills go up, the demand for something goes down, etc....so I believe it’s a constant balancing act throughout our careers. Something we have to continue to strive to improve until we’re at the level where we feel confident in our income strategy. 💕

    I have been bing watching you all day because you are so on point all the time.l have two questions ,what's the difference between an event planner and just a decorator?how do you rope in workforce and vendors?how to build a team?and probably a separate video on how to be in this business and manage kids.
    Oopsss these are way more then just two questions.

    • @BashBesties
      @BashBesties  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you Kanwal!! I really appreciate you watching the channel. Some of these will need a video, but here’s some quick answers!
      Event decorator only executes decorating the day of. They can be in charge of design entirely and purchasing decorations or they can be booked out by an event planner to execute the planner’s vision with their inventory. The planner is in charge of planning the entire event , communicating directly with client and vendors, managing the budget, securing all vendors and paying all vendors, etc. (unless they’ve only been hired to plan a portion of the party. Then they would handle that portion.) A lot of smaller planners usually hire friends and family since it’s part time work. If you want to hire out employees you just place ads like any other company would do. Managing this biz and kids can be difficult but not impossible, making sure to heave babysitters and help for times when you need to be away is key! 💕

  • @Foxiethepiratefox
    @Foxiethepiratefox ปีที่แล้ว +1

    And please dont forget after hours of speaking with the client and then you dont hear back but you get on FB or whatever and see they went with someone they said was too expensive. Makes me feel like other decorators refer them to you to get prices then change their price toget the business

  • @danilovesbuttercup
    @danilovesbuttercup 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Omg I so feel your pain. I get sooo many inquiries and I’m normally craving a client so I’ll bend my policies and I do all this brainstorming and editing for them for days and then just never respond anymore or they complain once they hear the price and want me to bend for them . It’s super frustrating

    • @BashBesties
      @BashBesties  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I knew I wasn’t alone out here, that’s exactly what I was talking about! I know how frustrating it can be, like you said we’re craving a client or so excited to do a theme we start to waver. If we uphold our policies, we may miss a few clients here and there, but at least we’ll never feel taken advantage of or waste precious time and resources! 💕

    • @danilovesbuttercup
      @danilovesbuttercup 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Miss Event Planner yes so true . I’ve made that mistake before and told myself I wouldn’t no more . I’ve even had a client tell me she needed a baby shower set up and if I could find some things for it and she’d pay me by the end of the day so I was at stores holding things for her and I kept calling asking about her payment so I could leave the store and she went MIA . I absolutely love what I do so since not many clients have been coming to me I just enjoy doing my kids parties over the top lol

      @BashBesties  4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      No, if you want to be a purely a planner you don’t really even need anything to start but a computer and your phone. However, if you want to be a decorator eventually you are going to have to start investing in inventory. You can start small though and purchase pieces that you can use for multiple events. I started my business with nothing and now I have a pretty sizable stock of decor, you just build up your inventory one party at a time! 😊

    Wow 😮 that’s horrible , I haven’t experienced that but I have experienced the clients booked elsewhere. I don’t get it they paid more then what I was asking . Also said to me I could do that myself . Well from what seen nobody did nothing . An other times I know I can do it . A friend /family of mine said .”I don’t sound confident enough” I’m just very modest . Any advice 🙏

    • @BashBesties
      @BashBesties  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes, that's definitely a form of it for sure. Speaking with you about all your ideas, and then going and booking with someone else. If you find it happening a lot, I'd maybe think about starting to charge a small fee for your consultations and if the client books tell them the fee is deducted from their party costs.
      Hmm well you have to think that if a friend or family member is saying it, and you know they have your best intentions in mind (not just hatin on you and your dreams) then you may need to consider it that to be a factor. Maybe if they are seeing it, then your potential clients are too. Always keep in mind feedback you hear repeatedly from different sources..because it's a pattern and that may signal an area in your business that can be improved upon.
      If you're unsure maybe try recording one of your client conversations and play it back and listen to yourself. Sometimes we don't know how we really sound until we hear or see ourselves on camera. No need to be modest in this biz though, don't overpromise of course on what you can't deliver, but be confident on what you bring to the table, because in the end the client has to feel they can trust you with their money and their special event! You got this!!

    I booked someone and they sent me a new quote with price increases. I was told the printer they use for cutouts increased prices. Am I responsible for that? I'm tempted to cancel because this went up $200 the week of my event.

    • @BashBesties
      @BashBesties  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s not very professional in my opinion, unless it was stated in a contract or made known to you before booking that prices are subject to increases at any point in time.
      The vendor should just eat the cost of quoting wrong in my opinion.
      I personally wouldn’t continue working with a vendor like that if I had the choice to go elsewhere.
      If you booked and left a deposit/signed an agreement for the quoted price, they should be honoring their quote.

    What booking software do
    You use? Or anyone suggest? We have been using square for 7 years and it’s been good but it does not save CC numbers and it’s really hard to attach a policy/ contract. Suggestions?

    • @BashBesties
      @BashBesties  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have been using PayPal for years because it was free and I could charge my client the payment fee. It does allow to attach an invoice or contract but they can’t sign it in the invoice if that makes sense. However, when my prices started to go up I noticed the convenience charge of 3% was getting a little steep. No one wants to pay $100 worth of credit card fees even if they have the money. But I only do online payments, I don’t like to deal in cash and checks and I couldn’t find a better alternative.
      Now I recommend Honeybook because the system is made for service based businesses like ours and a lot of my industry friends use it and speak highly of it. Plus they can sign the contract in it as well which is always a plus. In the new year though, I’ll be switching to either Honeybook entirely or Honeybook + Quickbooks for payment processing because I like their bank transfer options with a 1% fee, plus it also tracks your accounting clearly. I’m not sure if it save CC numbers though. That would be something to look into.
      If you find a software that does, we’d love it if you come back and share! 💖
