As he waits for her to come downstairs, a cat appears atop a table. Completely unfazed by Geralt. Geralt takes an interest in this cat, stooping down to analyze it, seeming perplexed by its lack of reaction to him before Tamara distracts him. Again, just another added detail with seemingly no purpose. Could these two cats have been O'Dimm following Geralt? Also, where was Geralt when one of Olgierd's men just so happened to be posting the contract at the exact time Geralt was there and when O'Dimm can be seen, for the first time, lurking in the background? The Seven Cats Inn, of course.
The cat appears to be its own mystery/inside joke from CD Projekt. I think its purpose in the cutscene where Geralt finds Tamara is to use the cat as a distraction so the camera doesn't have to focus on some scuffed stair descending animations. The cat that doesn't immediately hiss at Geralt is apparently called Nibbles and shows up a lot. Perhaps Nibbles is watching the Witcher on behalf of O'Dimm, I like this idea but I can't say it occurred to me when producing.
Details: Like the drunkard showing us the intact wooden spoon and its use by Gaunter, compared to Gaunter breaking the wooden spoon, once Geralt agreed to that `Pact with the Devil aka Faustian Bargain´..?

What's even better is that they never overdo it. At first... it's easy to assume he's a mage, a powerful one perhaps, but still something we can concieve. Yet he quickly dashes this by being casually dismissive of such, seeming to view mages as childish and beneath him. And the way he says it makes it very clear he's not being evasive or trying to trick you... he really does view "magic" as something silly and petty. As the story goes, his feats become more and more potent, and any hope we may have of ever being able to 'fight' him become more and more dim. By the time we get to the infamous time stop scene, it is now fully obvious that O'Dimm is not a being we can fight in any way. What I also find rather interesting is when you try to get him to tell you about what he truly is and he denies you. The way he says it, it very much seems that the fate that such knowledge would bring is not a fate he would give you himself but instead is something that happens even beyond his control. After all, if he tends to kill or otherwise destroy anyone who learns of his true nature you'd think he'd be fine telling you and then just _not_ doing that... but instead, he really does seem like he's trying to spare Geralt a fate that even O'Dimm could not prevent. As if just learning about him leads to a bad fate regardless of even O'Dimm's desires
Ooh that sounds even more eerie. The English VA has a more flat tone, not dimensionless at all simply, calm and eerie and that range widens as you get to more lucrative conversations. Can't hide those slight Scottish twangs in Alex Norton's voice mind you.

In the game ''standing togather on the moon" was likely not mentioned before the ending simply because it would be too obvious of a twist to the Polish audience.

Truly some of the best DLC content in gaming ever! Playing through the game a second time and the opening scene between Gaunter and Geralt hits so different with the added context. Fantastic story telling.
literally just talked to my mates how much i loved gaunter o dimm cause i heard music that reminded me of his theme and here Fizhy comes in clutch once gain.
I've never played this game, so it's impressive that you got me engaged with a 2 hour video on it. Major props. Update: I bought the game with Christmas money. Hope I end up liking it
Oh mate you’re missing out on the biggest masterpiece of all ages. It’s better than a woman, better than whisky, better than any addiction out there in the world. If you’re not playing this, you’re wasting your life!
1:44:30 i suspect gaunter chose the lady because he felt her forsaking of the old customs was a slight to him, just how he felt slighted when the drunkard kept impeding Geralt's path. if he was just a beggar asking for food, it wouldn't have held much significance or weight but using a custom centuries old did, i feel customs are like rituals or sacrifices for the pagan gods which gaunter essentially is, a god of contracts. So, like refusing to offer a portion of your harvest might anger a god of agriculture, shoeing off someone in need of aid in the manner she did, then saying they are less deserving than a mutt. she kinda had it coming. in his mind at least.
It's always fascinating to me that if you don't side against him, Gaunter can actually give genuine and helpful advice regarding Ciri and the best ending for the game. He actually treats Geralt almost entirely fairly in that instance
Can’t believe TH-cam tried to clear this from my queue- almost thought I lost the chance to see this video! Gaunter o’Dimm isn’t talked about enough and this satiated my Witcher needs ❤
I worked a 12 hour shift while listening to this! Got through the whole thing and I was captivated with the details of Gaunter O Dimm! He’s always been a rather chilling character to me because he has cosmic level power and we know very little about him. Good job!
Getting to beat Gaunter at his own game was way more satisfying than getting a magic saddle or something else from Gaunter and Olgierd was truly remorseful over what he had done imo
Thank you so much for your incredible storytelling. The two hours flew by, and I was hooked the entire time. Your voice is so soothing and melodic; it really adds to the immersive experience and makes for a very relaxing evening. You've inspired me to dive back into W3 - please keep making more!
This video is riveting and fascinating in the extreme; more than two hours flew by like twenty minutes. I still wish it were longer! Here's to more videos on Master Mirror =).
Thank you, FIzhy. I've always enjoyed your vids on RDR2 and just in general, and now you're covering my most favorite game. Keep doing your thing, mang. It's awesome.
Honestly one of my new favorite videos of yours. Recommend this video a few weeks back and been hoping you’d be tackling O’Dimm. And you did NOT disappoint! Amazing video. Here’s to hoping a video of the Crones will come
Little did he know that "Ahh, like everyone." line was addressed at HIM (and not at what he had said). Gaunter O'Dimm must have been sitting there for hours waiting patiently for Geralt to appear, only to realize that he's a little bit on an "Ahh, like everyone."
These were the most interesting hours of my day! Gaunter O Dim is such an interesting character in the Witcher universe, hope you continue to do more profiles for enigmatic characters in the future
This was my first game played and introducing to the Witcher. I immediately bought both dlcs and Witcher 3 and then played it for like 600 hours lol such an amazing game with soooo much to do.
I completely forgot that Gaunter appears in the beginning of the game.. Good spot. Imagine if he appeared randomnly in the background throughout the game but completely unaddressed until you meet him properly in Hearts Of Stone. Although he is definitely the sort of character you'd want to use sparingly. Damn I love the use of folklore in The Witcher. Makes things kinda creepy and interesting. Is definitely one of the more interesting fantasy worlds. Almost like a kind of magical realism but in a fantasy world.
I have seen people try to argue this dude isn't actually evil...no, he is very evil, one look at his actions and you will know it. The only reason Geralt is ever spared from a fate worse than death is because Gaunter thinks Geralt can be of use to him later. He would dispose of him in an instant if Geralt ceased being useful.
Since Gaunter is meant to be, by most people's interpretations anyway, the Witcher universe's equivalent of Satan or at least a higher level demon, that line of his, "When all is said and done, I am a merchant," has always stuck with me. Gaunter has been speculated over exhaustively, but I always thought that was something of significance that has been relatively neglected.
Would love to do one! Allow me some time to properly play through Blood & Wine again when the opportunity arises, then I'll be able to sit down and tackle the subject with a renewed memory of the experience.
He is a mirror of humanity in the witcher universe. He is only evil based on how we view evil. He doesn't always come across as evil but obviously isnt good. Just like a lot of people he deals with would be viewed the same way
Was always interested in this character, can't afford the games so cutscenes of the game were my limitations..Re watched these games multiple times never saw all these things..However i feel like this was sufficient information about O'Dimm the mystery adds discussion and shared ideas and notions which make the character more interesting..If we know all he is thats it the end.. Enjoyed this video studied it as if i was at school 😂 Great job mate..Thanks..
Holy hell , a 2 hour character study / dissertation on THE gaunter odimm ! If someone wasnt going to do it , i was gunna do something like it ! Appreciate the effort and i hope hes in the witcher 4 , even if its just hints that hes in the shadows id be satisfied.
in my headcanon Gaunter is an entity just like Q from star trek. Q are immortal almost all powerful beings you could call them gods. They're extremely bored since most of them already experienced everything that can be experienced. So for some of them the only entertaiment value that they get is from playing with the more primitive species. Creating games, giving them a challange to overcome for their own amusement or just messing around with them. Sometimes being marely an annoyance but sometimes they're straight up evil. But not everything is allowed since all Q live in a 'society" called Q continuum. All Q kinda oversee eachother. for example its not allowed for any Q to give powers to other primitive species or have children with them. If Gaunter o'dim has something like that it would explain why he has to go when Geralt beats him, its because other like him would force him to obey the rules he himself set up. And he had to set up those rules so the rest of his species allowed him to have his little game.
Fantastic video! I always enjoyed your RDR2 content and it's great seeing you create stuff on one of my other favorite games. Look forward to seeing more Fizhy! Thanks mate!
Odimm is probably one of the most powerful beings in the witcher world. Being able to stop time completely the guy would probably be impossible to beat in a 1v1.
For some reason in my play-trough the balcony door had a glitch, at first I trough that it was a game ending glitch, but I solve it by running as soon as I destroyed the door.
Gaunter O'Dimm has been one of my favorite video game characters for a good while now, and i personally have had some thoughts about him. the 2 critical clues to his "true nature" or what not that i personally believe in are the title of "master of mirrors" and his sentence of "But i could" during the wedding event. I believe he reflects, to at least some extent the human nature and the personal nature of people back to them, seen in him having nice conversation with the 2 elderly, wishing Shani had better end for the night she got dragged in to, and his treatment of von Emeric and the noble lady from blood and vine. "I would if i could" comes to mind with the 2 latter: i believe O'Dimm knew that the noble lady would send homeless vagrant in to the woods starving if given the change, and i believe he knew von Emeric would spill the blood of his own for the love of his life if given the change. so, as were shown over the game that he is not bound only to contracts, i believe he uses the contracts to ruin those who would do such to others if given the change, just as a some sick game of "I have the means to do as i wish, just as you would if only given the chance". there is also the scholar who had such greed for knowledge that he would not stop even as he was going blind. Edit; this came out as a bit of a rant and being non-native english speaker i have no idea how to put it to better words, so i will just add this TLDR at the end: I believe O'Dimm targets those who to an extent believe 'might makes right'. those who believe they have the right of walking over others for their own benefit because they have the means of doing so, and simply shows them its not very good idea, because in that world something else will walk over you.
thank you greatly for what i can only describe as an early christmas gift ethan, wonderful video as always please never stop tackling the witcher series, im very fond of it and you deliver it perfectly 🙏
My opinion on Gaunter is he's a very powerful demon who wants to see people suffer and derives malicious pleasure in doling it out through wishes. I don't think he's a Djinn he isn't behaving like one. You don't have to rub an object for him to pop up and grant wishes. He seeks out people with a destiny and he tries to prove they're petty, selfish, and rotten. He may even be a connoisseur of suffering created by presenting a seemingly cornucopia of wealth only to really lure them into giving up their soul for trinkets/shiny things. He could be the devil 😈 he certainly seems to be almost all powerful through most encounters with him. Freezing time (at least locally space-wise) storm summoning, burning a sigil of ownership onto a witcher, creating a pocket dimension or maybe making Geralt believe he's in an Upside Down version of reality. Having most answers to any questions, knowing personally intimate details about everyone around him. Obviously most be an ancient being. Yes, he very well is the devil. But I don't think he is God because he is easily banished when he loses the maze/solve-the-riddle but I going to sh*t talk at Geralt about how I will get him another time is what makes me think he's definitely not God. If God of that world wanted to have his way he'd have his way. He wouldn't just be like, "Oh can't get even with you, you solved an easy riddle and a bullshit maze, guess I have to piss off for a bit"🤣
I do hope we see O’dimm again in the Witcher 4, ciri encountering him would be quite the interesting story esp if you chose to play him, he could probably try to get revenge on Geralt through ciri
Honestly I wonder what itd be like to possess Geralt's body. The dude is relatively old and has been fighting since he was a child. His joints and bones must be in a state. And as someone with chronic pain, you get used to it. You become numb to the pain basically. But a ghost? Suddenly getting sensation back? we are missing a scene where Vlodimir is like Why do your elbows creak?? Why does your knee feel so weird?? What did you do with your ribs?? And Geralt just shrugging
@casualcookin3893 Thats not what chronic pain is. I wish it was. And he has taken a battering over the years. Like with the striga. He was out cold for two days and he has a lot of scars from various other injuries he sustained Fighting monsters man. Itll leave a mark on ya Its also just. Wear and tear on the body. Mutations can do a lot but it cannot remove the ravages of time.
@@elvingearmasterirma7241 Ur speaking like chronic pain is some sort of a magical curse, but its in fact a bodily function that doesent happen to everyone for a reason
@@casualcookin3893 Yea and sometimes that reason is just your body being battered and thrown around due to your profession. this is also me telling you to take care of your body because you really really dont want chronic pain trust me on this
@@casualcookin3893 Also I mean. Chronic pain is one of the closest things we have to a real life curse. I have hypermobility and lemme tell ya it feels like a curse. And Im one of the luckier ones because my joints wont randomly dislocate itself while Im just sitting. Ehlers-Danlos syndrome is the universe playing the biggest prank and only the universe finds it funny. Even as Im typing this my left shoulder and my hips are in pain because I slept well. Because no matter what I do, or how many pillows I try to support my joints with, theyre gonna do their hypermobility thing as I fall asleep and my muscles relax. So yea. Curse.
Thank you so much for this video. I got into the witcher and books within the last 40 days, and I just completed the heart of stone dlc, loved it so much
Awesome video dude, just beat it for the 2nd time... At 21 i was not interested. Now at 30 i love how characters and storys teach. The more mysteries the better too 😊
The talk with the grannies about gingerbread is the only seemingly innocuous thing he's done, if not for Gaunter knowing that it would unsettle Geralt himself("So you were listening to my talk!" quote later in the tavern when Geralt mentioned it. He always knew that Geralt was highly suspicious and wary of him, so talking about time was meant to make Geralt guess what he was up against. In the tavern Gaunter clearly demonstrated what he could do with his powers of time to a random blok, as a warning to the witcher that he should not even consider regular monster slaying against him(which Geralt did by trying to investigate the nature of O'Dimm through his questions feigned as curiosity).
With his power, he could easily snap his fingers and cause mass destructio and plunge the world into chaos, but he chooses to use his powers solely to mess with desperate people. Other monsters in The Witcher might be creepy, but Gaunter is the only one that legit scares me.
Agreed, the fact you can choose not to step in and save Olgierd to me felt like the game giving us an out to not face him because he was just that sinister
1:33:34 are you forgetting the part where O’Dimm drew the circle himself (or should I say itself) no he didn’t want to kill him he could have done that on their first meeting when he drew the circle of protection, if anything he wanted the guy to end himself it would be more fun that way.
The ending for this DLC that I got was to check everything and figure out all the hints as to how to defeat mr. Little Mirror (Pan Lusterko). Then I procedeed to give Olgierd's soul to mr. Little Mirror and ask for nothing in return. This looked like a choice Gerald might make for a bandit he cares little for
Huh, didn't realise you were going all in on _Witcher 3_ content, EJ. It's good though! Didn't think more than a decade after the game came out people would still be making compelling video essays on it, but here we are. And what a good choice of subject - Gaunter is one of the best written characters in a video game series full of them. Master Mirror, the Master Manipulator. A man who, in his own words (about Olgierd but applies to himself) "feeds on the pain and suffering of others". Although there is a little truth to him being a self-described "travelling merchant", like most of what he says, there's a lot more to it that he *isn't* saying, and that all adds to the illusion, mystery and danger of him. How every conversation is a transactional exchange, a way to put more and more people in his debt. That is his greatest pleasure in life, that power, but able to do it while seemingly incognito, so no-one ever sees him coming. Genuinely a great villain, but also a great villain because the morality of his character isn't pure evil, there's depth to it. I feel the video captures and chronicles his character better than others I've seen on the subject, maybe goes a little deeper into his motivations. Also, something few people notice - three blue stripes on either arm of his tunic. Gaunter wears Adidas.

Never seen a 2 hour video in 1 minute, thanks Fizhy.
I didn't intend for it to be 2 hours but it ended up being 2 hours.
@@Fizhy I hope you never intend to do a 2 hour video, for your own sake.
@@iirovaltonen4258 same here, I quite enjoyed accidentally making a 2 hour video without any intention to make a 2 hour video.
I enjoyed it too actually
Well, this is just the quiet before christmas kind of thing I needed!
That's what we like
literally just talked to my mates how much i loved gaunter o dimm cause i heard music that reminded me of his theme and here Fizhy comes in clutch once gain.
Happy to be of service!
I've never played this game, so it's impressive that you got me engaged with a 2 hour video on it. Major props.
Update: I bought the game with Christmas money. Hope I end up liking it
Legend!
Oh mate you’re missing out on the biggest masterpiece of all ages. It’s better than a woman, better than whisky, better than any addiction out there in the world. If you’re not playing this, you’re wasting your life!
tf you doing with your life blud, easily top 5 games ever made.
Go play it immediately
Do yourself a favour. Play it. The DLCs alone are masterpieces.
First 30 sec is enough for me to judge the quality of the video, you just earned a new sub.
You got a pretty low bar if It only takes 30 seconds.
Just as I started replaying the game, your timing couldn't have been more perfect!
I have the superpower of timing it would seem!
YES! I'm so glad you covered this. Been waiting for you to drop a video on Gaunter. Even better that it's 2 hours long
It had to be!
Thanks for watching!
Thank you ever so much! Yep, more to come for sure!
This video is riveting and fascinating in the extreme; more than two hours flew by like twenty minutes.
I still wish it were longer!
Here's to more videos on Master Mirror =).
Someone call the Winchesters.
😂
i recently got into The Witcher series and im so happy you're covering this
Thank you, FIzhy.
Here’s to hoping a video of the Crones will come
it's amazing how i find this video after taking an interest in O'Dimm's history and origin
Love the Nyarlathotep reference. That Lovecraftian deity is also in a story called ‘Haunter of the Dark’… ‘Gaunter O’Dimm’
Recently found your channel. Love your work. So awesome you made a TWO HOUR video on this underrated character.
Thank you for your support! More to come for sure!
2 hours? Mate, you spoil us. Great work, as always, and happy holidays to you, Fizhy
The best written evil character I have seen in any piece of popular media no doubt. Thanks a lot mate. 🌟🌟🌟
Little did he know that "Ahh, like everyone." line was addressed at HIM (and not at what he had said).
Gaunter O'Dimm must have been sitting there for hours waiting patiently for Geralt to appear, only to realize that he's a little bit on an "Ahh, like everyone."
This is genuinely such a well put-together video on O'Dimm. Great stuff.
Gaunther Odimm is probably the Strange man in read dead redemption
He probably is.
Was looking for a timeline/iceberg/etc for the Witcher… saw this video and KNEW I had to watch. TYVM this was an amazing video!
This video certainly deserves more views. Keep up the great work!
I have watched 4 and a half hours of witcher content in te past 24 hours and i loved it. Great video analysis.
Would love to a similar in-depth video on the Unseen Elder.
Would love to do one! Allow me some time to properly play through Blood & Wine again when the opportunity arises, then I'll be able to sit down and tackle the subject with a renewed memory of the experience.
I may have watched the entire video in one sitting. Top tier content. Really nicely done.
I figured out the answer to the riddle because it pointed out a mirror that can't break which water is the only that can match.
Been watching between this account and an alt account since 2016 and boy do I love falling asleep to these lore videos. Thank you and keep it up!!
He is a mirror of humanity in the witcher universe. He is only evil based on how we view evil. He doesn't always come across as evil but obviously isnt good. Just like a lot of people he deals with would be viewed the same way
It never occurred to me that the curse of the spotted wight, was O'Dimms doing. But it makes a lot of sense.
Would very much like to see more of Gaunter O'Dimm in Witcher 4.
I got a feeling hes a once off character, considering how the DLC goes.
Would be awesome though 😊
a 2 hour video on gaunter o dim? YES PLEASE
Enjoyed this video studied it as if i was at school 😂
Great job mate..Thanks..
Hmmmmm 🤔🤔
For me, he's more like crossroad demon
Fantastic video! I always enjoyed your RDR2 content and it's great seeing you create stuff on one of my other favorite games. Look forward to seeing more Fizhy! Thanks mate!
Thank you for your kindness, I'll be sure to do more in the future!
@Fizhy music to my ears
Odimm is probably one of the most powerful beings in the witcher world. Being able to stop time completely the guy would probably be impossible to beat in a 1v1.
wonderful video friend, this has been such a treat! amazing work!
You're an incredible storyteller, hats off
Whoa, 2 hours. Nice job man, I love this!
Thank you kindly, please enjoy!
1:13:12 note that O'Dimm isn't looking at Geralt, but the *player*
Loved every second, excellent work and presentation 👌
An in-depth video on one of the most interesting characters in tw3 AND in time for the holidays? You spoil us Fizhy! Thank you sir.
Right as im about to start crafting? This is perfect timing, thank you sir!
Oh aye soldier
Man! That was so entertaining, makes me want to replay Witcher 3 and both DLCS all over again.
I would love to see you cover the land of a thousand fables in this game. Amazing video my man!
Thank you Fizhy , this is phenomenal
Thank you for taking time to enjoy it!
Suddenly getting sensation back? we are missing a scene where Vlodimir is like
Why do your elbows creak?? Why does your knee feel so weird?? What did you do with your ribs??
And Geralt just shrugging
Geralt is immune to any disease, meaning his body wont have inflamation and be worn off
@casualcookin3893 Thats not what chronic pain is. I wish it was.
And he has taken a battering over the years. Like with the striga. He was out cold for two days and he has a lot of scars from various other injuries he sustained
Fighting monsters man. Itll leave a mark on ya
Its also just. Wear and tear on the body. Mutations can do a lot but it cannot remove the ravages of time.
@@elvingearmasterirma7241 Ur speaking like chronic pain is some sort of a magical curse, but its in fact a bodily function that doesent happen to everyone for a reason
@@casualcookin3893 Yea and sometimes that reason is just your body being battered and thrown around due to your profession.
this is also me telling you to take care of your body because you really really dont want chronic pain
trust me on this
@@casualcookin3893 Also I mean.
I got into the witcher and books within the last 40 days, and I just completed the heart of stone dlc, loved it so much
I never even played this game but I came across this video 4 am omw to work I enjoyed it a lot thank you 🙏🏽
Keep this going, i’m addicted
Great video man
A good video to watch in between my sets at the gym, thanks Fizhy!
Happy to be of service. May your gym sessions be lucrative
Never played any over the Witcher games or read any of the books, but I’m a sucker for a Fizhy video!
I've already watched this 3 times since it came out - excellent work!!
Cheers!
A 2 hour long video on Gaunter O’ Dimm!
All my prayers have been answered!!!
I aim to please!
"You know too much Fizhy...." - Gaunter O'Dim (Says with a gnarly stare and smirk on this face)
Amazing content I appreciate your time
I am so excited for this. Heart of stone was my favorite storyline and because of o'dimm. Awesome!
Now with Witcher 4 coming up (in a million years no doubt), christ I hope we get Gaunter O'Dimm vs. Ciri at some point.
The ending for this DLC that I got was to check everything and figure out all the hints as to how to defeat mr. Little Mirror (Pan Lusterko). Then I procedeed to give Olgierd's soul to mr. Little Mirror and ask for nothing in return. This looked like a choice Gerald might make for a bandit he cares little for
2 hour video from Fizhy, my life is complete
i just found your channel bro big up! such great content wowzers
Bro this guy had me shook playing this
One of my fav characters and the writing chefs kiss
Obviously Witcher universe has lots of mysteries but this one was the most I was intrigued by. Thank you so much. Liked and followed…
awesome vid bro, keep em coming!
Yessir!
2 hour long video on the master mirror? I'm gonna listen to this video while working tomorrow.
Excellent idea!
