I helped build the USS Dwight D Eisenhower in 1973 to 1974. That is one of the proud moments of my life. I then transferred over to the USS Los Angeles 688, before joining the US Air Force. It is so cool to see that magnificent carrier is still sailing the seas! Go IKE!

As I understand it, CVN 65 was a bit of a nightmare to maintain. the Nimitz was sort of redesigned based on those expensive lessons. typical cost of progress I suppose. but the Nimitz class did have a good solid run.

@@dwaynentinabunt1200 CVN 65 was not a "nightmare" to maintain, but the fact that she had 8 reactors led to a much larger expense in nuclear trained crew than a Nimitz/Ford class carrier does. Toward the end of her service life, Enterprise was growing more and more expensive to operate, but that was more a function of age than design. How do I know this? Simple. I served on Enterprise, reactor department, 1980-1984.

Changing radar systems, to an arguably inferior one, to save $180 million, on a ship that costs $12.5 to $18 billion, seems really stupid, especially since there aren’t very many such ships, and they are so incredibly important. They should use the absolute best equipment available, regardless of the cost.

We need to revamp the design [no tumblehome] of the Zumwalt's into something to replace the Ticonderoga's. Something with a few EM rail guns. Apparently Ticonderoga's are not upgradeable and both Obama and Biden wanted them eliminated so we're left with only a few now. That would be a nice little jobs program and get US Steel working again along with starting the next Ford class ahead of schedule. I heard Trump talking about redesign of the littorals but they have been a massive waste of effort and dollars. Just go with the new frigate design FFG62 and bring it forward. Other than that lets leverage drone tech; Q-58, 170, Q-47B and fill out the SMIII-2A and SM6. And one more thing Santa, we want lasers too now.

only a couple docks left, so dry docking slows down development and with the navy as the only customer, are astronomical to run. mothballed stuff was done so for a reason; they are worthless but it's not politically acceptable to destroy all those $ and too dangerous to let foreign ship breakers have at them, and embarrassing to us to see how much we've wasted. we'd sell them if there were any takers and they are not.

I saw a video for a Chinese light show at night. Instead of fireworks, drones are used now. Anyways, that show in the video had 1500 drones working together displaying different light colors in the night sky to make one large image. Truly amazing if you haven't seen it. But also scary at the same time as it shows the capabilities for modern drone warfare at the same time. Imagine that technology used against a carrier group today. But armed with explosives instead of lights.

I saw your other comment on hydrofoils, partially the reason that they don’t do that is because it would be extremely difficult to do that on a ship that displays over 100,000 tons of water, not to mention the carriers are already the fastest thing in the fleet, and on top of that it would greatly decrease your maneuvering capability, not to mention it would be extremely expensive and there’s really no reason to. And submarines travel with the carrier strike groups, and all of our submarines and aircraft carriers are all nuclear powered. submarines don’t keep any fuel on them so there would be no way for them to refuel the aircraft carriers. And if a carrier sinks, submarines don’t have nearly enough buoyancy to lift them up, so it would really be pointless, not to mention most boats have many watertight compartments, not to mention pumps to deal with flooding, so you’d be able to limit the flooding and pump the water out

My comments carry only the weight of history. Battleships were the end all in WWll. those large guns could stand miles offshore and bring an entire era to ruin. Then aircraft sank the Bismark and the largest Japanese battleship ever built, the Yamamoto. Aircraft carriers by their very nature are mobile airfields. They bring a very real distant deterrent close with its airplanes, but meanwhile vulnerable to both under water (subs)and over the horizon rocket attack. In spite of being self-defendable with new Teknowledgy and associated support ships, they like the WWll Battleships they are large sitting targets. I think this is multibillions for an outdated system. In a real contest, these craft, ours and there's will be the first to go. Their value exists as a deterrent and useful to lesser aggressive Nations. Find a better Naval use.

Suggesting our Readiness to deploy and defend the Free World against all enemies foreign and domestic, has never been further from the truth than it is today; our botched military withdrawal from Afghanistan proved that beyond every reasonable doubt.
Every high-ranking Officer involved in the planning and execution of the withdrawal should have immediately been relieved of Command.
Instead, they were brought back home and questioned by Senators who haven't a clue how to address and evaluate Readiness.
America has never been weaker to defend our way of life than we are today.

Why would you use such an insulting name for a warship? No ships should be named after politicians. Go back to the classic naming convention. Carriers named after battles and early navy warships, cruisers after American cities, destroyers after notable Navy and Marines personnel.

There may be a few in PORT for things (mostly maintenance, not repairs), but there's only one in DRY DOCK right now, and that is the early construction phases of CVN 80 that isn't even counted into the overall USN carrier numbers at this point. Why even put this complete bs claim out in the public?

We build new carriers cause we need them they wear out just like a car you need. a new one after a while yeah we have some in drydock but if a war popped up they would get ready in a hurry we have enough running now to handle anyone that wants a try the usa. has a very large aircraft fleet and even if we don't have carriers in the area we can get a lot of airpower there very fast jets can get there in a hurry if needed with all the firepower we need and a jet can run down any ship

    1. To stop China doing what. You are in their sea, they are not in the Gulf coast.
    2. Your aircraft carriers are built via capitalism meaning they coast VASTLY more than a nation using not for profit production methods under a more socialist economic system which incidentally is also why the Russians are able to out produce the collective west in armaments.
    3. In the time it takes what little is left of US manufacturing capacity to produce one of these massively expensive floating paperweights in the modern age, China that produces ten times the steel per year America produces and has more production capacity than the USA and EU combined, could build an entire fleet.
    4. I say paperweight because a single hypersonic missile could sink it and there is not a damned thing between it and God above that can prevent that. War has changed alright, but not in favour of slow cumbersome aircraft carriers with ZERO defence against missiles moving in excess of seven thousand miles an hour complete with countermeasures and general avoidance systems. These things are built to please handfuls of rich investors not to secure the homeland, indeed that is the precise opposite task they are put to most of the time.
    5. During the cold war it was primarily the USA that was the aggressor and it did so for the benefit of capitalism not of democracy nor freedom, as Americas most highly decorated Marine in its history General Smedley Butler attested to when he called himself and his former career one of being a gangster for capitalism that out did al Capone.

An important reason our enemies can produce weapons quicker than us is they don’t have to develop anything, rather they just copy our’s.

    • @Nine-Signs
      @Nine-Signs 27 วันที่ผ่านมา

@@douglasjaeger1559 You mean like the US did with masses of British technology during their rise, yeah tends to be how it works.
It should also be noted that vast amounts of western technology was not Stolen by China but was given to them by western capitalists over the last 45 years as a quid pro quo for access to cheaper Chinese workers and materials allowing for those western capitalists to profit massively from selling out their originator nations in the west, as capitalism incentivised be done and rewarded the doing of.
Small Chinese companies were set up along side big western corporations who abandoned their nations for China, and they transferred and still transfer masses of technologies to these Chinese companies which fast forward over 40 to 50 years and those small companies are now commercial technological giants like Xaomi, Huawei, AliExpress, etc where by today they don't have any need to copy our technologies as they are now more than capable of producing their own variants from the ground up which is why their 5G technology for example is cheaper to implement than US 5G and is more energy efficient with it being an entirely Chinese designed and built affair entirely different to the US's more expensive less energy efficient version. For one of many examples.
