I am not sure many will understand, but I will try to explain. In the early seventies I was a primary school student in the Northern Suburbs of Parow/Bellville in Cape Town. My dad was well connected to the WPMCC (Western Motor Car Club) with friends like Willie Meissner, Callie Perrold, Dennis Joubert and the little guy, who's name I unfortunately forget as the Clerk of the Course at Killarney). My dad left me and a very good school (JM) friend of mine at the clubhouse many times on a Saturday and together we watched the False Bay 100 and many other races from there. I remember my dad placed a sticker on the back of his Cooper S, that announced the next "big" race at Killarney, and without a doubt my favourite were the races between Bob Olthoff in Z181 and Basil Green in A2. If I was able, I would show my Matchbox Capri that I painted in those colours and added the numbers Z181. There was also Scamp Porter in the R8 Gordini and another friend in the Mini that got badly burned at Kyalami) and not forgetting Peter Cough in the Escort - later Mazda) I think Dennis Olthoff is now is NC USA, his dad has passed away, and Basil Green is still alive in AUS. I, myself, has been in Canada for more than 30yrs, but I miss those days very, very much! (please note that this is NOT a political statement about South African history or the current situation!)
