Hi! I'm planning on writing about my summer research internship in which I used coding/data-driven techniques to determine whether a specific fluid would be a cure for an eye condition (basically connecting the computer science and medicine fields). Do you think its a good topic? I'm just apprehensive since essays are so important to NYU's review process. Thanks!
I think you have a great foundation that bridges computer science and medicine! I’d also say to think about any ways you can include a community aspect there - for example, have you met with any patients? If you have, highlighting any such interactions is a great way to showcase bridge building with that community as well.
Hi! I volunteered as a teacher to help orphaned children (grades 1-3) with their learning. I would like to write about my effort to help one child who could not read and was being bullied. Do you think it's the good one?
Absolutely-mentoring underserved children is a very noble thing you can write about in the context of bridge building. I’d encourage you to think about the specific actions you took when teaching to better connect with the student, the specific conversations you two had, and anything else that comes to mind that strengthened your connection.
Hi, im thinking about writting about this personal proyect! - I put out a masterclass and taught digital art fundamentals to student in under developed áreas. I particular y focused on the fact that I had been in their place, and would help them start their journey as artists using accesible /cheap materials.(while also keeping in touch with them, providing more resources from international sources and translating some for them) This essay mostly finished with me triying to bring out the idea of taking this masterclass to global audience at NYU, Is it okey? I cant find a club or organization to link in how to implement this idea 😭
Can I write an essay about starting an online queer writing club during Covid? Connecting identity with writing and different backgrounds? I feel like it won’t be a strong essay…(I have less then 30 hours and two drafts.)
What if i dont answer this essay? As it's optional. I feel like my personal essay already includes the answer to the question. However I'm afraid that NYU will think I'm not making an effort if i don't answer this optional essay? Would really appreciate your insight on this.
I’d definitely say to answer it regardless. After all, it’s only a few hundred words, and your point about showcasing effort is valid, especially since you’ll be competing with candidates who will choose to write the essay. I’d encourage you to think about any extracurricular experiences distinct from what you mention in your Personal Statement in which you’ve done bridge building. If you don’t have any such examples, you could also use this essay to elaborate on the example mentioned in your Personal Statement and mention student organizations at NYU in which you hope to make similar contributions.
Hey! I have done a paid internship to create infographics related to social issues self care and education which was later used for workshops.Does that make me a Bridge builder? If not then do standing up against a bully for whom one of my classmate suffered could be something related to the theme?Hope you can let ne know!
Hi! Thank you so much for this video btw. I volunteered in helping students my age prepare for an exam in different country. I was going to create a metaphor of puddles and connect it to them and how I helped diverse students build a bridge to better opportunities and create friendships. This is a very complex idea, but I heard that NYU doesn’t like “fluff” as in use of imageries/ metaphors. Do you think its a bad idea?
I finished my supplemental, is there any way that you could review it maybe? Its totally okay if not. Please give me feedback on the idea itself. Thank you in advance!
Talk about how, in your capacity as house captain, you’ve worked to form connections with new members who have joined your house (such as through mentorship and/or tutoring) and, if relevant, how you’ve worked with other house captains to host cooperative events.
I really find this helpful please how can i connect with you to help me review my essay. All your videos are really helpful. How can i connect with you sir?
