I like to do continuous granny square blankets to use up every last bit of scraps. So I end up with a giant granny square in the basically. I just put scraps in magic knot balls and go until I'm done crocheting. Its such an easy going project, I change the direction when I think about it but I really just don't worry much about it and just crochet till my hearts content! I almost always have one on the go because they always end up being the favorite project that I have going and I just want to keep crocheting! Also, I love that it uses up every last bit of the yarn. I have one that fits our queen size bed and several others that end up as throws and live on various chairs and couches and bed throughout the house.
I put my scraps in my cozy memories and then from there I’ll put up to 10 grams onto a magic knot ball for a crochet granny stripe scrappy blanket. Then any extras from there I set aside to swap out or send to friends, and last year I joined a sock yarn advent swap and you put together 25 minis from your scraps (wrapped with goodies) and swap with a partner - super fun!!
Skeinanigans Northeasterly or Southeasterly blanket would be perfect! You hold fingering weight double and can also add in heaviever weight scraps. Great scrapbuster.
The Habitation throw from curious handmade would be a good one to use up various lengths. The scrappy blankets from Skeinagans would be fun for smaller bits to switch up from the cozy memory pattern too!
I've made leg warmers with left over yarn. I made 2 pairs with ribbing at both ends. I like to wear them to keep my legs warm when I am sitting and knitting. I did follow my own pattern using a base color(med. green) and after the ribbing I did 3 rows of each color, forest green, gold, forest green, beige, orange with 3 rows of the main color between each color. The 2nd pair was gray as the main color and I used burgundy, light blue and navy alternating with the same 3 rows of gray between each color. I used dk leftover wool on 4 mm circular needles.
The Habitation Throw by Helen Stewart is a lovely, relaxing knit. It is corner-to-corner and absolutely perfect for using up mini skeins and/or scraps. I just finished one and I can not wait to cast on another one!😍
You should make mini socks with your scraps! Like baby size or even smaller. Attach them onto some twine or small lights and make a cute garland for your Crazy Sock Lady office 😸
The Habitation Throw is a very fun knitted scrappy blanket. I made mine bigger, and rectangle instead of square which worked out great. I did hold a cream throughout with minis to make it thicker, but living in Wisconsin, warmer is always better😂. All your projects are so beautiful, I really enjoy seeing them. Thank You 😄
This is my 2nd Scrappy Sunday...I’ve discovered that by waiting for Sunday to knit on my two scrappy projects, that I’m really enjoying the knit more! I ordered the beautiful Signature needles like yours...they themselves add to the specialness. I need to refer to your project page for your notes on the beginning and ending stitch to make the picking up stitches easier.
Ideas for the final scraps, patchwork granny square Blanket where you can have a big square or a 4 patch= big square, 9 patch = big. So you could use up the tiniest bits. Super crazy shorties for Wyatt that are totally different. He can then just pick two to wear with no matching required. My kiddos loved these when they where younger, my 23 yr old daughter wears them all the still especially lounging around the house.
Hi Kay - I just love your podcast and have been doing Scrappy Sunday ever since I saw your first Scrappy Sunday video earlier this year! I too wanted to do a project that uses every little bit of scraps yet also doesn't require a lot of ends woven in (tried magic knot balls but they come undone for me no matter what I do!). So I started a gigantic helically-knit blanket. It's perfect - you just keep going round and round with two different yarns and attach a new one every time you run out. The microstripe effect is lovely. Plus I can just tie off the ends since they'll be on the inside of the finished blanket (I triple knot them then do a triple bow). Very addictive. I cast on 800 stitches on 3.75mm needles for fingering weight yarn (sounds like a lot and it is, but I wanted a king-size blanket haha. You could absolutely do 400 for a single person blanket I'm sure) and I use 3g-15g scraps. Each round takes a bit over 3g for me. Perfect mindless TV knitting and SO satisfying to get rid of all my tiny scraps and scraps I've got from other people!
How about a knitted or crochet log cabin blanket? Or an endless crochet granny square where you just keep going around? Bakery Bears suggests turning every round, though, to avoid the skewing that occurs when crocheting in the round. Both use up all the yarn.
Eric can wear his scrappy socks on Sunday - haha. These socks look cute and I can't wait to see them finished. Do a huge Granny Square blanket or the Grandma Favorite Dishcloth pattern blanket. Have you ever used the square needles? If so, could you show the finished project. Have a wonderful Scrappy Sunday Kay and Everyone !
Hi Kay nice to see you. I always think of you when I wrap myself up in my c2c blanket. It’s my favourite so far and often think of casting on another. I am also still working on your Bits and Bobs blanket but with mine I am randomly using 2 strands of scrap fingering yarn together and am enjoying the effect. Yet to try scrappy socks. I know Amy from stranded podcast is doing some pretty marled blankets in rainbow tones. Hand me my knitting also has a pattern for a scrappy blanket that you are describing. I look forward to seeing what you come up with.
I recommend the Habitation Throw by Helen Stewart for knitting corner-to-corner, but if you wanted something similar to the granny stripe, you could do a scrappy granny ripple blanket! I'm working on a Northeasterly right now and LOVE IT! I also want to make the Fly True blanket one day 😅
Another enjoyable Scrappy video! Plus, I just saw on Instagram that you are moving to Ohio - that's fabulous, and you'll get more use out of your handknits!
Today I added three squares to my cozy memory blanket. I’m also working on just a knit scrappy blanket, not following any pattern. Although I’m running out of scraps. (Wellllll. Not really running out, I was just trying to not duplicate a square in the blanket.) I also have plans for scrappy socks and I also want to make a scrappy round and round cowl!
For your extra scraps, maybe consider knitting or crocheting some throw pillow covers? I think I’ve seen patterns on Ravelry for crochet granny square cushions. Scrappy hats with yarn held double would also be great to keep or donate (once you make your big move!). They’d work up quickly, too! Whatever you do, I’m sure it’ll be great!
Your scrappy blankets brought to mind one I did for my dad. I made it shortly before he passed away. He was so happy with it! It was an easy pattern and it went quickly!
I think I scrappy sweater or cardigan would be really cool. I'd pick out some colours that go well together and knit them into a sweater until they're all used up
Try the Bits and Bobs blanket by Kay Jones of the Bakery Bears. Carry one color with your scraps like white or cream, and you can knit until it’s gone and star another color! Awesome pattern and squishy blanket!
Helen Stewart’s Habitation Throw is working perfectly for my scraps so check that one out! Love to use up scraps and see what people make with them! Love your videos!
I feel like I'm inundated with scraps as I only mainly knit socks. 🧦 I have used them for charity knitting but it seems like the more I use, the more my stash grows (leprechauns at night re-stashing my stash is my guess). Love the shawl idea.
If you want to still do blankets, & do something that still mindless, have you considered starting from the center & work out. Like the Grannie Goes Large by Sandra Paul (actually she has a huge range of blankets which would work well with leftover yarn!!) or if knitted, the Giant Square Scrap Blanket by Laura Beth Knits.
I second some suggestions I've seen for the Northeasterly blanket, that would be perfect. Or you could make granny stripe blankets for each of your boys - get them to go through the scraps and pick out the colours that they want in their blanket! I also think a shawl or cowl would be nice. I've made the Manic Panic cowl with minis but it would be perfect with any amount of leftovers. It's linen stitch in the round.
Every time I see your granny stripe blankets, I want to cast one on immediately!! Also for your scraps, what about a Habitation Throw? I'm sure I'm not the first one to suggest this!
I have the same problem with too many scraps...and too many blankets. But I have been thinking of starting the Scraptastic Stash Busting Blanket by Samantha Johnston - a corner to corner held double. I love the idea of your shawl! Thanks for sharing your projects!
I made a scrappy Lace blanket holding two fingering yarns double for a marled look, I try to use shorter sections of one of the yarns to highlight the difference. Undercover is the name of the lace pattern I use. Have fun!
Hi Kay. I am doing a Scraptastic Stash Busting Blanket by Samantha Johnston. It is great for that (and in fact is kind of what you said you were thinking on doing) It is holding two strands together, so you could either do it with the same ball until you run out (to have the blocks of colors) or marled them. I am doing both ways and also using the DK scraps I have (although I do not have a lot of them)
Amy Florence of Stranded Dyeworks is doing a rainbow themed scrappy blanket in garter stitch, holding 2 strands of fingering together. It would be a pain to organize, but kind of fun too!
Great to see all of your scrappy projects Kay I’m just about to start to knit a Habitation throw out of layfamily yarn minis that I had set aside. Ive finished a car seat sized northeasterly last week and a litmus cowl this morning it needs Kitchener stitched together when it’s dry as I blocked to on the needles to make sure that I was happy with the length so only have my large cosy memories still on the needles. I pulled out all my cotton scraps and plan to knit washcloths and face wipe size reusable pads then when the cowl is completely finished I will start the throw.
I have to start collecting minis to do a scrappy granny. Lol.. Your blankets are beautiful! 💙 You’re very inspirational to watch. I enjoy your videos. Ty!
This would be a little too wild for me but I've seen where people have knitting sweaters with scraps! You could try helical knitting or just stripe it? And any pattern would work. You could even use more than one strand
How about the easy puzzle blanket by Purl Soho? Its a colour block blanket with an interesting (but easy) construction which suit your need to use all of what you have left of your skein. I'm in love with all of your scrappy projects. It's inspiring
Hi Kay just getting caught hope on your videos, Jo from stitching the high notes did 2 corner to corner afghans with minis. I forgot the name of it but they are really nice and different than your normal corner 2 corner. Also you could look up the 10 stitch by Frankie Brown on Raverly you cast on 20 stitches instead of 10, I did couple versions of this afghan and it is a lot of fun.
I'm doing a corner to corner knitted scrappy blanket with my sock scraps. I'm holding 2 strands together and have made 2 magic knot balls. It's totally random and is so much fun! The pattern I used is Grandma's favorite dishcloth. (You know the one 😁). I plan on having no sock scraps left. 😃
I’m working on the Happy Scrappy Blanket by Schibot Garne it’s a corner to corner that just in the middle you lengthen it to make it a rectangle. It’s coming along great!
I would start hats with the extra. You could pick a couple bits of scraps that coordinate well and knit helical with them so that they striped and it looked more like it was supposed to be that way. You'll need hats come winter in Ohio ;) Or you could donate them around the holidays.
If you hold the yarn double for your corner to corner knitted blanket you’d be using twice the yarn! I used up a ton when I made my crochet corner to corner blanket...I held yarn double and made 23x23 squares and joined those later, and found that I could repeat yarns since they look different held with other colours ❤️
Out of the box...with your news of a location change, you are returning to winter. Visit Cozy Up Knits on Ravelry. Those ladies do excellent projects that are very suitable for scrappy projects holding two strands together. I am sure that there are plenty of options for places to give away hats, or scarves. I know of Operation Gratitude-those hats and scarves go to our soldiers in Afghanistan. Just a thought.
you are so talented!! I LOVE your new shawl pattern. I've been working on a crochet half granny square shawl out of minis I had. Below I was thinking you could do a hitch hiker scarf, with your minis or one of your scarfs you made in the past?
Hi Kay. I just started the Giant Square Scrap Blanket by Laura Peters. It is a free project on Ravelry. I wanted to do a Granny Stripe Blanket but am not that great at crochet so I started one of these and I love it. It's perfect for using up all of your scraps!! Super easy too!! Good Luck! Sue
What about making a scrappy cowl or shawl? That way you could use up what’s left of that yarn, and depending on how you style it once it’s done you could get different looks.
Regarding pattern suggesting... I am enjoying “Scandi Throw” by Esme Crick on Ravelry... though written for a heavier yarn, I’m sure you can just increase your repeats or hold double to obtain desired width. With a consistent background color way, I think you could use your little skeins for pretty, stripy trees.
Ninja Chickens has a pattern called Andromeda, I’ve been holding fingering double and making a circular blanket, it’s a beautiful pattern and you can use up every inch. I do a weft clasp join
I've been seeing a lot of marled blankets lately where they hold a fingering with a white yarn. They are so pretty!
I think scrappy hat scarf and hand ✋ warmers would be really cute and fun.
I like to do continuous granny square blankets to use up every last bit of scraps. So I end up with a giant granny square in the basically. I put 4 strands together to make multi colored hats for the homeless and vets. Love the podcast

The Beekeepers Quilt!
I've been knitting that one as a scrap project.
You knit little filled up hexipuffs that get sewn together afterwards.
Love it!
I love the scrappy shawl at the end! Beautiful.
The Habitation Throw by Helen Stewart is a lovely, relaxing knit. It is corner-to-corner and absolutely perfect for using up mini skeins and/or scraps. I just finished one and I can not wait to cast on another one!😍
I am making the Northeasterly by Skeinanigans for all my sock yarn scraps. I love it! I use up the whole leftover ball and then start again
Another vote for the Northeasterly. I'm also a fan of the Frankie Brown original 10 stitch blanket pattern.
The Habitation throw or the sweetest thing both knitted corner to corner blankets
You always have fun scrappy projects. I really like the shawl you are working on.
You should make mini socks with your scraps! Like baby size or even smaller. Attach them onto some twine or small lights and make a cute garland for your Crazy Sock Lady office 😸
Knitted corner to corner sounds wonderful. 🥰 would love to see that.
Thank You 😄
If you enjoy the mindless granny stripe how about doing a corner to corner granny stripe? Diagonal granny clusters look fantastic!
Double up the scraps in boaster to make worsted socks...you will need heavier sock/slippers for Ohio winters! 😊
Ideas for the final scraps, patchwork granny square Blanket where you can have a big square or a 4 patch= big square, 9 patch = big. So you could use up the tiniest bits. Super crazy shorties for Wyatt that are totally different. He can then just pick two to wear with no matching required. The bits and bobs blanket with the left overs from the sock basket :)
The habitation throw... Or make a long story short blanket is a free blanket on Ravelry Soo easy to do
Hi Kay - I just love your podcast and have been doing Scrappy Sunday ever since I saw your first Scrappy Sunday video earlier this year! The Habitation Throw by Helen Stewart might be a good option for a knitted corner to corner and could easily be adapted to any size.
I was going to suggest the same thing. It's what I keep wanting to try it with my scraps.
Ha, same pattern was going through my head!! Definitely will keep you warm this winter and those to come!!
This is the pattern I thought of instantly
Since I don't crochet this is what I want to do after I start a cozy memories
Eric can wear his scrappy socks on Sunday - haha. These socks look cute and I can't wait to see them finished.
Do a huge Granny Square blanket or the Grandma Favorite Dishcloth pattern blanket.
Have you ever used the square needles? If so, could you show the finished project.
Have a wonderful Scrappy Sunday Kay and Everyone !
Hello from Mounds Illinois and I hope that you and your family are well.
The Northeasterly is a cute scrappy project.

Thanks for Sharing!💖
A ten stitch blanket could be an idea for the leftovers. I started on one that turned into a cover for a square box on wheels instead.
Another enjoyable Scrappy video! Plus, I just saw on Instagram that you are moving to Ohio - that's fabulous, and you'll get more use out of your handknits!
I hope you will write up the shawl pattern when you finish. I love the look holding the magic ball with white!
A modern mitred granny blanket would be great. Has a lovely shape, with scrapyarn, would be good.
The C2C knit blanket sounds very interesting. I just love the idea of scrappy projects.
The corner to corner knitted blanket you describe has already been written - it's Helen Stewart's Habitation Throw.
I love the shawl!!💕
For your extra scraps, maybe consider knitting or crocheting some throw pillow covers? I think I’ve seen patterns on Ravelry for crochet granny square cushions. I love my Free the Minis Scarf which could also be a cowl. You’ll need this in Ohio😀
Every time I see your granny stripe blankets, I want to cast one on immediately!! Also for your scraps, what about a Habitation Throw? I'm sure I'm not the first one to suggest this!
I was going to say hold yarn double to use up faster. Crochet uses more yarn as well. A pattern with shells or bobbles maybe.
A Granny Rectangle would be fun too
I make scrapballs and use them on a habitation throw. That would be a corner to corner blanket
I have the same problem with too many scraps...and too many blankets. But I have been thinking of starting the Scraptastic Stash Busting Blanket by Samantha Johnston - a corner to corner held double. I love the idea of your shawl! Thanks for sharing your projects!
A granny square blanket. You can keep making squares as many and as big as you want, just keep going.
I made a scrappy Lace blanket holding two fingering yarns double for a marled look, I try to use shorter sections of one of the yarns to highlight the difference. Undercover is the name of the lace pattern I use. Have fun!
The “Ten Stitch Blanket” would be fun with scraps...and now I think I want to start one for myself... 🤔
Scraps would be very pretty in the “Habitation Throw” by Helen Stuart.
I’m holding my magic knot ball with gray yarn from Knit Picks and a size 8 and knitting on bias.
The northeasterly can be a very scrappy project.
I would start a squishy dot blanket with your scraps. It’s knit in the round with increases every other row. It’s a free pattern from Kate Selene.
You could maybe make a hexi puffs for a bee keepers quilt but a garter stitch marled blanket would be great too.
Ty!
put 2 strands together and make the corner to corner, work until it is done the add another strand
This would be a little too wild for me but I've seen where people have knitting sweaters with scraps! You could try helical knitting or just stripe it? And any pattern would work. You could even use more than one strand
The Nottheasterly Blanket would work for different amounts of leftover yarns
How about the easy puzzle blanket by Purl Soho? Its a colour block blanket with an interesting (but easy) construction which suit your need to use all of what you have left of your skein. I'm in love with all of your scrappy projects. It's inspiring
Also if you ever want to do a memories blanket again and want something different, you could try the brioche memories blanket.
You could start a scrap sock trading with others, also the secret yarnary has a spiral granny it would be neat in
Hi Kay just getting caught hope on your videos, Jo from stitching the high notes did 2 corner to corner afghans with minis.
I’m working on the Happy Scrappy Blanket
by Schibot Garne it’s a corner to corner that just in the middle you lengthen it to make it a rectangle. It’s coming along great!
I would start hats with the extra. You could pick a couple bits of scraps that coordinate well and knit helical with them so that they striped and it looked more like it was supposed to be that way.
You'll need hats come winter in Ohio ;) Or you could donate them around the holidays.
P.S. I hope you'll write up your basic idea/pattern for your scrappy shawl, it's so pretty.
Please do enjoy your podcast
Would love to learn how to make this shawl.God bless and wish you happy crocheting. 😊👍♥️
Perfect!!!!
You could try the Northeasterly pattern for scraps!
I like the Northeasterly, the Fly True, and I'm using the Gramma's Favorite dishcloth pattern for a corner to corner type.
you are so talented!! I LOVE your new shawl pattern. I've been working on a crochet half granny square shawl out of minis I had. Below I was thinking you could do a hitch hiker scarf, with your minis or one of your scarfs you made in the past?
You can make a granny square shawl with you’re scrappy yarn leftover.
The 10 Stitch Blanket by Frankie Brown might be fun to make scrappy!
I think a Granny stripe blanket would be perfect. I just started my worsted weight Granny Stripe- such fun
Have you looked the The Battenburg Blanket by Sandra Paul? It was designed as a scrappy blanket.
Hi Kay. I just started the Giant Square Scrap Blanket by Laura Peters. It is a free project on Ravelry. I wanted to do a Granny Stripe Blanket but am not that great at crochet so I started one of these and I love it. It's perfect for using up all of your scraps!! Super easy too!! Good Luck! Sue
I love your videos
Oh my! Your marled shawl is gorgeous 😍
What about a scrappy garment, like maybe the Boxy? That could be interesting.
Maybe using your scraps for premature baby hats would help you use things up while helping others.
What about making a scrappy cowl or shawl? That way you could use up what’s left of that yarn, and depending on how you style it once it’s done you could get different looks.
Helical stripe beanies for leftover scraps. 😀
Noble Character crafts showed off a scapghan at one time I really liked. I believe it was called
“show off you’re colors”
What about a DK top down raglan holding 2 together and marling. You might want to choose which yarns to use
check the Nature's Walk Blanket since you have alot leftovers so i think it'll be perfect for this pattern
Maybe the Color Therapy Blanket by Wendy Staples? It's a free pattern on Ravelry.
