    I’d vote for BW K04s and get an E85 tune … you’ll be able to max out the stock block and still enjoy the spool of the smaller turbo compared to the K24. It’ll be a blast for everyday around town driving. As for Brakes, I went 18z and no regrets. Another, much cheaper, yet effective option is the B8 S4 swap. They perform better than the HP2 but not a good as the Brembos. Unless your tracking your car, you don’t need the Brembos … BUT the Brembos look so awesome :-)

    We went with B W-K04 turbos with Melett 26psi CHRA, 550cc bosch injectors, AWE intercoolers, 85mm MAF, 17Z front calipers 330mm rotor, Apikol adapter for a8 rear rotors, STUKLR tuned. 410 whp It's been a trouble free daily driver for 2 years.

    This is my experience.. starting with 100% stock stage 2 then BW K04 stage 3 then jhm RS6r turbos fully built engine and now Tial 770R on E85 if had to doit all over again i would just do rods and just stay bw ko4 or TTE550 on E85. I also have a more basic awe stage 3 with all supporting mods and I am always more exited to go drive this one do to more fun... please stay away from cheap turbos you will regret it BW and TTE are best or BW RS6s. great videos good luck

    Original B5 owner. My, experience: 100k on KO3's then 60k on the old AWE K04 stage 3 set up. Lastly, JHM RS6-RS stage 3+. for me, my S4 is no longer a daily and I appreciate how it does not run out of breath up high like the K04's did. That being said, if I had to do it over again I would have stayed with the K04's as they are more fun "around town". Power of course is relative and the days of the S4 being a major force are long gone. Keep it simple cuz this is NOT a race car. My stage 1+ C7 S6 is noticeably quicker than my S4 and costs are coming down on those these days. Throw on some RS7 turbos and you do have a beast. I know that's another subject but point is stick with the budget and keep expectations rational.

    i have 17z brembos in my s4 and those are really good and there is still option to buy better pads. last owner installed ko4 turbos and those start to spool +3000rpm. One thing i still want to do, is better custom software.

    i have tte550's (k04 hybrid) on E85 and walked my buddies k04 e85 car, although the spool is slightly slower. I would stay k04 framed on a stock engine and wouldn't recommend rs6 turbos. With the torque onset being slightly conservative as most tuners do with stock engines, the lag of rs6 framed turbos combined with that can be very underwhelming unless you're on the highway. k04's on e85 max out the block with a very good powerband still. I make 21 psi at 3200 rpm 👍

    My B5 has a B7 brake kit on it. They work very well at a good price point and parts are readily available. New turbos going in next year I'm probably going K04, but I have another block and 2.8 cams/heads that I'm thinking to build a fresh engine with K24 and the TDI transmission with JHM kit (which I have already) to pair. Can't wait to see what you do!

    S.E.P has an 8 blade K24 option that I just started running this year that spools quicker a little more like the K04s and still rips on the top end. 91 octane it is no slouch and when you feed them E85 this things rips. I am also in the Spokane area and have a stage 3 car that you are more than welcome to check out and see how some of those parts all play together if you would like.

  • @twoninedaniel

    The BW ko4/frankenturbo f21 are definitely the best options in my opinion because the power band feels really really good. Single turbo is brutal but it changes the car a lot but the ko4 feels the best and is more than enough power.

  • @vmc2216
    @vmc2216 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you plan to keep the S4 for a long time, I would say single turbo. Slightly biased because I have one too. :-) The ease of maintenance is first and foremost. There are plenty of turbo options to get similar K04 performance or greater. What you wrote down covers it. Just sell everything from the twin setup to get some money back.
    You have different hot side options available which is nice. I would strongly encourage spending the money on your intercooler/charge pipe setup. It will be completely custom but simplified with less points of failure.
    Overall, well worth it for the reliability, ease of maintenance and awesome sounds when driving. The driving experience is everything to me personally.
    Everyone does twins so I vote to be different! Either way I'll be watching.

    As a fellow B5 owner building an S4, I recently bought Project B5 PJRS6 turbos. I had done my fair share of digging through forums and found that, for my power goal, RS6/ K24's were the best option. If you want to keep the spool and save money, the Ko4 and e85 makes for a killer setup. I also bought a Wahlboro 450 fuel pump and 635cc injectors to fuel my rs6's on pump gas. I would also look into doing the timing and what not if you're gonna have the engine out.

    • @Ecarney_5
      @Ecarney_5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@samatics4 No. Initially I did plan for it. I decided to do the build in smaller steps because of my budget. Rods will likely be a next winter project with head rebuild and what not. Gonna keep it around a mild 400whp until then.

    • @Ecarney_5
      @Ecarney_5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@samatics4 Not a problem, I went with the PJRS6's because they were on sale and I could buy the turbos, install kit and mamba waste gates all for around $2100. Almost all the RS6 turbos outside of OEM Borg's are from China. I've searched through about 10 hours of forums reading everything I could. Luckily, most companies take the time to rebuild the internals and as far as I can tell it's just splitting hairs with what turbos you end up picking. Best of luck to you and your decision! I'll post videos of me installing my stuff and updates and what not on my car this winter/ spring. I am still debating on going with rods now since the engine will be out and what not but I already have a PILE of parts to install so we will see.

      @@Ecarney_5 Right that's not a bad deal. Only looking at the RS6-RS's because no one else has them so they'd make my car a little more unique. I'd definitely watch any content you put out on the process since I'm still pretty new to all this. Have a good one bro

    I have been contemplating this same thing on my b5 s4 for quite some time. Whatever you choose I think keeping it with 2 turbos would be the cooler choice. I also think keeping the oem fit by using the ko4 be an easy yet still beneficial upgrade. I think the big question is, do you want max powa and straight line speed or handling and usable power? I know you've done handling upgrades which makes me think you lean for quicker spool (which weeds out the rs6 turbos)
    Whichever you choose, excited to watch (and base my choice off of it 😂)
    Also curious of which hybrid you would choose if any.

    Genuine k04 on e85 stock block is your best bang for buck option 110%.
    You get your 450whp which is a really fun time on the street… oh and that torque 🤤
    Get yourself a quality set of intercoolers (preferably Wagner) for consistent low IAT’s.
    I ran this setup when I had a k04’s on pump petrol 98ron (US93) and it was awesome although I could’ve benefited definitely with e85.

    Id vote 17z on brake setup and K24 turbos. OEM parts are always easier to find.
    But the real question is what kind of driving you expect to do in the car? That will dictate what turbo you choose. When and where do you wamt your power delivered?

    I suggest setting up a power goal you want to achieve. Keep in mind what intercoolers, injectors, clutch you will be using. Keep it a realistic goal, high end supportive mods costs a lot for b5 (6 rods and pistons, 30 valves, 4 cams, 2 turbos, 2 intercoolers, 2x piping and so on.)
    I did a mistake where i didnt knew what is the end goal and now im stuck in between turbos which support 750hp, clutch for 700hp and block for 1000+

    I have run srm k24s for like 60,000 miles and theyre holding up. I would stay away from frankenturbo is all i have to say for turbo options, he faked some spool graphs years ago and lost reputation. Either oem k04 or SRM

  • @joegardner5928
    @joegardner5928 ปีที่แล้ว

    Best option in my opinion BW K04s e85(if available in your area) they spool quick , reliable will always put you in your seat , only downfall they will run out of breath in upper rpm range
    Secondly I would look into a nice set of oem BW rs6s , they aren’t available new in the us but can have the built brand new if you reach out to 2.7t Motorsport in Sweden
    A lot of the “aftermarket “ turbos will make great power . Some people have great results others have premature failures , coming from experience do it right stick as close to oem as possible they will make the power and reliability that you are looking for in the long run

    I did a conversation to 18z on a subaru over 10 years ago and I can guarantee that the outer size of the two is 100% the same between the 17 and 18z as I managed to get them at scrap value and got them all. The only difference is the rotor size, both diameter and width. Please research more about them, I know people who run them on b6s but cannot tell you what rotors they use, nor the supports.
    I ended up using 17zs because 330mm rotors were too narrow for the 18z but I guarantee you that the size are exactly the same minus the fact that 18 have more material taken out of the inside. Brilliant videos, I don't even like audis but keep coming back. Much love from Bulgaria!
