Hi, Andrew. I wish you feel healthy and happy and I would like to thank you for your fruitful teaching. In fact, I took much advantage of your lessons which are very interesting and useful. I wish you more success. My Request for you, sir, is " Can you post videos related to "Transitional Words and Adverbs". "SOME" Rule 1 - We use "some" in positive sentences with: - countable nouns in the plural; - uncountable nouns always in the singular; Rule 2 - We use "some" in questions asking for something: - countable nouns in the plural; - uncountable nouns always in the singular; Rule 3 - We use "some" in questions offering something: - countable nouns in the plural; - uncountable nouns always in the singular; "ANY" Rule 1 - We use "any" for normal questions: - countable nouns in the plural; - uncountable nouns always in the singular; Rule 2 - We use "any" in the negative sentences: - countable nouns in the plural; - uncountable nouns always in the singular;
Thanks so much for this lesson. I'd like to know more about the Chocolate whether it's a countable or uncountable as u said "Do you have any chocolates?". and why bread is in uncountable nouns? because I think we can count it. 🌼
Hi Andrew ;) 1) There are some radishes and some lettuce -There are some eggs -There is some chees And I'll make a delicious healthy salad :) 2) There isn't any sausge -There aren't any tomatoes -There isn't any butter And I'll stay hungry ;) 3) Are there any cheery ( my favourites fruits) - Is there any pineapplle - Excuse me, I'm looking for red kichen curtains. Do you have any red curtains?/ Are there any red curtains? Thak you a lot for this video :)
Silvia Kerkelova Hi, thanks again for your answers. Here are my comments and corrections: 1) "There are some radishes and some lettuce" --> Correct "There are some eggs" --> Correct "There is some chees" --> Correct (but "cheese" is the correct spelling) "And I'll make a delicious healthy salad :)" --> The salad sounds good! 2) "There isn't any sausge" --> It depends! If the sausages are small individual sized sausages, small enough for one person to eat, then "sausage" is countable and we say "There aren't any sausages." But if the sausage is a very big sausage that you cut into several portions for several people (like cheese), then sausage is uncountable and we say "There isn't any sausage." "There aren't any tomatoes" --> Correct "There isn't any butter" --> Correct 3)"Are there any cheery" --> (I think you mean "cherry"?) Cherry is a countable noun. So we must use the plural - "Are there any cherries?" or "Do you have any cherries?" "Is there any pineapplle" --> In the context of a shop, pineapple is a countable noun because they sell lots of them. So we say "Are there any pineapples?" or even better "Do you have any pineapples?" "Excuse me, I'm looking for red kichen curtains. Do you have any red curtains?/ Are there any red curtains?" --> Correct, very good :) Well done, you did very well. Best wishes, Andrew
This is very clear and useful. I am having the test tomorrow about article and conditional I have watched a lot of your videos, they are helping me to understand more clearly. Thanks a million.

Dear Andrew, I have no words to describe you how much thankful I am, to you of posting these tutorials. As always this lesson is very informative but I an little bit confusion between two sentences; 1) There are a few apples. 2) There are some apples. Would you please put some light on these? I guess the difference Is the situation in which we use it! Thank you
Hello and thanks for the comment and question. We use both "a few" and "some" to indicate a plural but there is a slight difference in meaning: 1) There are a few apples. -> ""a few" = a small quantity (but more than 1 ) A few would be 2, 3 or 4 apples, for example 2) There are some apples. -> "some" = a normal plural (more than 1) Some could be 3, 100 or 10,000 apples, for example. Best wishes, Andrew
1. There is some water. There are some carrots. There is some milk. 2. There are not any pumpkins. There are not any cabbages. There is not any milk. 3. Is there any chocolate? Are there any limes? Is there any bottled water? I have a question, Andrew, is it possible to say Is there some bottled water? (we are asking about something, that was the rule). You are one of the best lecturers, thank you for your amazing work!
+unboxing1991 Hello and thanks for your answers and sorry for the delay in replying to you. I have been very busy. All of your sentences are correct. Well done, you have learned a lot from this lesson. "Is there any bottled water?" is correct because it is a question. Best wishes, Andrew
1 There are some tomates There are some peppers There is some milk 2 there aren't any apples There isn't any juice There isn't any cheese 3 Do you have any tomates Are there any potatoes Is there any wine
Hello Mr.Andrew. I enjoyed the lesson, it was explained clearly and wonderfully. You should be an example to all English teachers and my answers are:1-There are some vegetables. There are some cream and cheese for breakfast. There is some bread. 2-There is not any water. There are not any tomatoes. There is not any milk. 3-Do you have any noodles? Do you have any green apples? Is there any fresh fish? Regards
amel aliraq Hello and thanks for your answers and comments. There is only 1 mistake: "There are some cream and cheese for breakfast." --> "There is some cream and cheese for breakfast." (Since both nouns are uncountable, we keep the verb singular too.) All of your other answers were perfect. Well done! Andrew
Q:1There is some cheese . There are some bananas .There is some coffee .There are some bananas .Q:2There isn't any coffee. There aren't any apples .There isn't any suger. There aren't any kiwis . Q:3Do you have any carrots? Do you have any tea?Do you have any oranges ? Do you have any cheese?
hi you're very clever teacher, you make you're lessons very interesting and easy, and there is something else I had noticed here, that you mix between grammar and vocabulary without making the learner feels that he studies two stuff, so, he will profit grammar and many used words without feeling tired. so, thank you very much.
thank you for your lesson, it was very clear. I'd like ask you in order rule 2 using "some" in question asking for something, I can say: "Can I have some cheese?". But in order rule 1 using "any" in questions I have to say: "do you have any cheese? the meaning is the same in both sentences, why there is this difference? Excuse me if I don't speak well english. thanks for your attention.
Lucia Parisi Hello and thanks for the comment and question. The meaning of "Can I have some cheese?" is not the same as "do you have any cheese?""Can I have some cheese?" - I am asking for somebody to give me some cheese. "do you have any cheese?" - I am asking if they possess any cheese. I am not necessarily asking them to give me the cheese. The basic rule for questions is if the question is to ask to receive or give something that is an uncountable noun, then we use "some". Otherwise, for "normal" questions concerning uncountable nouns, we use "any". Best wishes, Andrew
1) - There are some tomatoes - There are some vegetables - There is some butter 2) - There aren’t any pizzas - There isn’t any flour - There aren’t any yoghurts 3) - Do yo have any potatoes ? - Do you have any beans ? - Are there any pickles? Hello Andrew, I'm Brice an I teach English for secondary schools in Gabon. I watched your videos about English lessons and I found them interesting. I have a request about two sentences: This is it and that is it. What's the difference between them? I'll be very glad to read your answers. Thanks indeed.
Thank you very much, Sir Andrew. You helped me alot.. more power to you Sir.. God bless you.. you're so kind for teaching us... thank you again Sir.. I like your videos.. Very helpful and I have learned alot..
+Ariston Cortez Thanks for your comment. I am happy that you like my English lessons and I'm sorry for the delay in replying to you. I have been on holiday. Best wishes, Andrew
I would rather ask you a question. Yesterday, my English teacher said: "Can you give me some helpful advice for the situation ?" We gave him some answers, but not pleased him. Then, he proceeded to ask: "Can you give me any better advice?" Well, I think the first question is indisputably true. However, the second is quite counfusing when remembering your lesson. So I want to ask whether the second is true or not ? Follow me, when my teacher used "some", he guessed that his students have questions already and when he use "any" he was not sure if they have or not. Is that true? I know it is annoying to ask you read too much, but this is really important with me. Thanks and best wishes to you!
The second question should be ""Can you give me some better advice?" That is grammatically correct because we are asking to receive something and advice is uncountable. If we want to know if other advice exists, then we say "Is there ANY better advice?" or we can say "Do you have ANY better advice?" because these are simple questions and we are not necessarily asking to receive it. So because the meaning is so similar, people often mix them up. It is very small mistake, very subtle but quite common. You will hear it a lot. But you are right :) Andrew

+Sara Yaman Hello Sara. All of your sentences are correct. Well done, you have learned a lot from this lesson. Don't forget that all new sentences must start with a CAPITAL letter. It is very important in English. Also, don't forget to write a question mark ( *?* ) at the end of a question: 3: - Do you have any cookies *?* Do you have any pancakes *?* Do you have any pasta *?* Best wishes, Andrew
1) There is some water, some milk and some eggs in my fridge at home. 2) There aren't any vegetables. There isn't any ice cream and there isn't any fish in my fridge. 3) Do you have any carrots? Do you have any chicken? Do you have any rice? Thanks for the video.

Hello and thanks for your answers. Here are some comments and corrections: 1)there is some grapes. -> there *are* some grapes. There are some tomatoes. --> correct there is some water. --> correct 2) there aren't any oranges. --> correct there isn't any alcool. --> correct (alcohol) there isn't any butter. --> correct 3)do I have any pasta? --> correct could I have some the? --> correct (tea) do I have any carrots? --> correct Andrew

+Teuta Arifi Hello and thanks for your answers. Here are some comments and corrections: There is some yogurt. --> correct There is some butter. --> correct There are some oranges. --> correct There isn't any rice. --> correct There aren't any tomatoes --> correct Do you have any fig? --> Do you have any figs? (plural) Do you have any biscuits? --> correct Well done, you have learned a lot from this lesson. Best wishes, Andrew
Hello, Andrew! Thanks a lot for the lesson! I have a question, can you help me, please?) In English, as you said, we always use "some" for countable nouns (always in plural, and never for singular). Example: I bought some apples yesterday. But what if I mean sth one (fruit pamela)? How should I say? Just: I bought a pamela yesterday? And that's it? There are some eggs; There is some condensed milk; There is some fruit; There isn't any meat; There isn't any vegetable. There aren't any chocolates. Do you gave any candies? (Are there any canides) Are there any apples? Do you have any coffee? (Is there any coffee) Thank you in advance :)
Maksym PS If you want to describe one of a countable noun, you have 2 choices: 1)Use the indefinite article ( "a" or "an") Example: I just bought *a* pear. Or I just bought *an* apple. 2)Use the number one if it is important to really specify only one. Example: I wasn't very hungry so I only ate *one* potato. Here are some comments and small corrections: There are some eggs; --> correct There is some condensed milk; --> correct There is some fruit; --> correct There isn't any meat; --> correct There isn't any vegetable. --> There *aren't* any *vegetables.* There aren't any chocolates. --> correct (if they are individual chocolates) Do you gave any candies? (Are there any canides) --> "Do you *have* any candies?" (don't forget the question mark *?* ) - Also often candy is used an uncountable noun. Therefore "Is there any candy?" is also correct. Are there any apples? --> correct Do you have any coffee? (Is there any coffee) --> correct (but don't forget the question mark *?* ) Well done, you have learned a lot from this lesson. Best wishes, Andrew
Crown Academy of English Hah, about articles, it's very funny and easy. I forgot about article "a"("an"), which replaces "one". Btw, about vegetables, I didn't know it is countable noun. I thought it is like fruit - uncountable noun (singular form). Andrew, thank you a lot for your great videos! They are all very helpful for me. And your opinion is very important for me as well. P.S. If I have some mistakes in grammar, sorry, I'm from Ukraine...
Hello Andrew! I saw your replies for commenters. Nearly everyone replied, or rather used more the word 'any' in questions than the word 'more'. For ex: Can i have any pumpkins? Wouldn't it be correct to ask or use the word "some"? Like, Can i have some pumpkins? And i would like to know from you that both 'any' and 'some' can be used in countable questions if it's possible. Best wishes, Andrew. Karthik.
Hi, I'm Brazilian and I'm studying English, but I have some questions. But I try to do this exercise... Q1: there is some milk. there are some pineapples there are some apples Q2: there isn't any cheese there isn't any pizza there isn't any strawberry Q3: Do you have any pasta? do you have any chocolate? do you have any icecream?
Hi Andrew: Thanks for everything you teach us!!! I would like to know if you have any class about how to use the verb “to get”? This is a very difficult verb for me. I would appreciate it a lot. Greetings!!!

sudarat su. Hello and thanks for your answers. Here are some comments and small corrections: 1.There are some mangoes. --> correct 2.There is some yogurt. --> correct 3.There is some vegetable. --> There *are* some *vegetables* ##### 1.There isn't any milk. --> correct 2.There isn't any water. --> correct 3. There aren't any fishes. --> There aren't any fish. (fish is irregular. It is also "fish" in the plural.) ##### 1. Do you have any milk? --> correct 2. Do you have any orange juice? --> correct 3. Do you have any flowers?--> correct Well done, you have learned a lot from this lesson. Best wishes, Andrew
Congratulations for the high quality material. I love studying english by this channel! I have a doubt about the question "Do you have ANY chocolates", wich is apearing in instant 7:57 minutes of the vídeo. Chocolate is uncountable, but it is in the plural. Can I substitute the sentencer for "Do you have ANY peaces of chocolate?". Thank you!
+Estevão Teodoro Hello and thanks for the comment and question. "chocolate" can be both countable or uncountable. It depends on the type of chocolate. For example, if they are small individual chocolates (like Ferrero Rocher), then it is countable and we say "Do you have any chocolates?" If it is a big bar of chocolate (like Dairy Milk), then it is uncountable and we say "Do you have any chocolate?" To answer your other question, yes we can also say "Do you have any *pieces* of chocolate?" if we want to create a countable sentence to describe parts of a bar of chocolate. Best wishes, Andrew
Good morning Teacher, First of all, I'd like to thank you for the lesson, I love all your videos but I have some questions about this lesson. The second answer: What was near her house? My question is: What's the different between the two questions and why? Kind regards

Dear Mr. Andrew, thank you VERY much for your lessons. They are simply the best! I've a question. Which is the correct one among the following three sentences? Some year ago... , Some years ago... or A few years ago...? Thank you in advance. Alberto
ItalanFindart Thanks you for your comments. It's a pleasure! "Some years ago" and "A few years ago" are both correct. The meaning is slightly different. "A few years ago" is probably more recent in the past. "Some years ago" suggests that it was quite a long time ago. "Some year ago" is wrong. I hope this helps :) Andrew

"SOME"
Rule 1 - We use "some" in positive sentences with:
- countable nouns in the plural;
- uncountable nouns always in the singular;
Rule 2 - We use "some" in questions asking for something:

Thanks a lot ....You explain very well
Well done Sir actually I understand very well. Wish you the best Sir♥️
Thanks a lot Drew, GOD bless Crown Academy.
Thanks so much for this lesson. I'd like to know more about the Chocolate whether it's a countable or uncountable as u said "Do you have any chocolates?". and why bread is in uncountable nouns? because I think we can count it. 🌼
Hi Andrew ;)
1) There are some radishes and some lettuce
-There are some eggs
-There is some chees
And I'll make a delicious healthy salad :)
2) There isn't any sausge
-There aren't any tomatoes
-There isn't any butter
And I'll stay hungry ;)
3) Are there any cheery ( my favourites fruits)
- Is there any pineapplle
- Excuse me, I'm looking for red kichen curtains.
Do you have any red curtains?/ Are there any red curtains?
Thak you a lot for this video :)
I sorry but I have missed to put at the end of two sentences questions mark :((
Are there any cheery?
Is there any pineapplle?
Silvia Kerkelova Hi, thanks again for your answers. Here are my comments and corrections:
1) "There are some radishes and some lettuce" --> Correct
"There are some eggs" --> Correct
"There is some chees" --> Correct (but "cheese" is the correct spelling)
"And I'll make a delicious healthy salad :)" --> The salad sounds good!
2) "There isn't any sausge" --> It depends! If the sausages are small individual sized sausages, small enough for one person to eat, then "sausage" is countable and we say "There aren't any sausages." But if the sausage is a very big sausage that you cut into several portions for several people (like cheese), then sausage is uncountable and we say "There isn't any sausage."
"There aren't any tomatoes" --> Correct
"There isn't any butter" --> Correct
3)"Are there any cheery" --> (I think you mean "cherry"?) Cherry is a countable noun. So we must use the plural - "Are there any cherries?" or "Do you have any cherries?"
"Is there any pineapplle" --> In the context of a shop, pineapple is a countable noun because they sell lots of them. So we say "Are there any pineapples?" or even better "Do you have any pineapples?"
"Excuse me, I'm looking for red kichen curtains. Do you have any red curtains?/ Are there any red curtains?" --> Correct, very good :)
Well done, you did very well.
Best wishes,
Andrew

+andrea duran Excellent, I'm glad you learned something new. :)
Dear Andrew,
I have no words to describe you how much thankful I am, to you of posting these tutorials. As always this lesson is very informative but I an little bit confusion between two sentences;
1) There are a few apples.
2) There are some apples.
Would you please put some light on these?
I guess the difference Is the situation in which we use it!
Thank you
Hello and thanks for the comment and question.
We use both "a few" and "some" to indicate a plural but there is a slight difference in meaning:
1) There are a few apples. -> ""a few" = a small quantity (but more than 1 ) A few would be 2, 3 or 4 apples, for example
2) There are some apples. -> "some" = a normal plural (more than 1) Some could be 3, 100 or 10,000 apples, for example.
Best wishes,
Andrew

Hello Mr.Andrew. I enjoyed the lesson, it was explained clearly and wonderfully. You should be an example to all English teachers and my answers are:1-There are some vegetables. There are some cream and cheese for breakfast. There is some bread. 2-There is not any water. There are not any tomatoes. There is not any milk.
3-Do you have any noodles? Do you have any green apples? Is there any fresh fish?
Regards
amel aliraq Hello and thanks for your answers and comments. There is only 1 mistake:
"There are some cream and cheese for breakfast." --> "There is some cream and cheese for breakfast." (Since both nouns are uncountable, we keep the verb singular too.)
All of your other answers were perfect. Well done!

hi
you're very clever teacher, you make you're lessons very interesting and easy, and there is something else I had noticed here, that you mix between grammar and vocabulary without making the learner feels that he studies two stuff, so, he will profit grammar and many used words without feeling tired. so, thank you very much.
perfect, thanks a lot
thank you for your lesson, it was very clear.
Best wishes,
Andrew

Hello Andrew, I'm Brice an I teach English for secondary schools in Gabon. I watched your videos about English lessons and I found them interesting. Thank you.your study is very good
I would rather ask you a question. Yesterday, my English teacher said:
"Can you give me some helpful advice for the situation ?"
We gave him some answers, but not pleased him. Then, he proceeded to ask:
"Can you give me any better advice?"
Well, I think the first question is indisputably true.
But you are right :)
Andrew
i learned alot about some any any.thank u veary much

My best teacher
Thank you for this lesson . It was so useful
Hello, Andrew! Thanks a lot for the lesson!
I have a question, can you help me, please?)
In English, as you said, we always use "some" for countable nouns (always in plural, and never for singular).
Example: I bought some apples yesterday.
But what if I mean sth one (fruit pamela)? How should I say? Just: I bought a pamela yesterday? And that's it?
There are some eggs;
There is some condensed milk;
There is some fruit;
There isn't any meat;
There isn't any vegetable.
There aren't any chocolates.
Do you gave any candies? (Are there any canides)
Are there any apples?
Do you have any coffee? (Is there any coffee)
Thank you in advance :)
Maksym PS If you want to describe one of a countable noun, you have 2 choices:
1)Use the indefinite article ( "a" or "an") Example: I just bought *a* pear. Or I just bought *an* apple.
2)Use the number one if it is important to really specify only one. Example: I wasn't very hungry so I only ate *one* potato.
Here are some comments and small corrections:
There are some eggs; --> correct
There is some condensed milk; --> correct
There is some fruit; --> correct
There isn't any meat; --> correct
There isn't any vegetable. --> There *aren't* any *vegetables.*
There aren't any chocolates. --> correct (if they are individual chocolates)
Do you gave any candies? (Are there any canides) --> "Do you *have* any candies?" (don't forget the question mark *?* ) - Also often candy is used an uncountable noun. Therefore "Is there any candy?" is also correct.
Are there any apples? --> correct
Do you have any coffee? (Is there any coffee) --> correct (but don't forget the question mark *?* )
Well done, you have learned a lot from this lesson.
Best wishes,
Andrew
Crown Academy of English Hah, about articles, it's very funny and easy. I forgot about article "a"("an"), which replaces "one".
Btw, about vegetables, I didn't know it is countable noun. I thought it is like fruit - uncountable noun (singular form).
Andrew, thank you a lot for your great videos! They are all very helpful for me. And your opinion is very important for me as well.
P.S. If I have some mistakes in grammar, sorry, I'm from Ukraine...
Thank you I enjoyed listening to you ,useful lesson as usual .
Hello Andrew!
I saw your replies for commenters.
Nearly everyone replied, or rather used more the word 'any' in questions than the word 'more'.
For ex:
Can i have any pumpkins?
Wouldn't it be correct to ask or use the word "some"?
Like, Can i have some pumpkins?
And i would like to know from you that both 'any' and 'some' can be used in countable questions if it's possible.
Best wishes, Andrew.
Karthik.
I love your explanation
Thank you I'm an Arab and I understood a lot from you ❤

I really love your channel!
Thank you for the lesson.
For example, if they are small individual chocolates (like Ferrero Rocher), then it is countable and we say "Do you have any chocolates?"
If it is a big bar of chocolate (like Dairy Milk), then it is uncountable and we say "Do you have any chocolate?"
To answer your other question, yes we can also say "Do you have any *pieces* of chocolate?" if we want to create a countable sentence to describe parts of a bar of chocolate.
Best wishes,
Andrew
Teacher thanks you very much

I hope this helps :)
