I have learned more in this 15 min video about cues, form, and technique than in the last 10 years of bro'ing out in the gym with my buds trying to figure it out on how to get stronger and bigger. Please more videos like this Big Mike.
Most of this is pretty subjective and made up, he definitely seems well versed in training and practice but rocking your head around during a lying press, probably not the best idea in any situation.
Mike, I bet you won't hear this often, but your vocal inflections and speech patterns remind me so much of my younger brother. He's one of the kindest, most incredible people I've ever known. Every time I listen to one of your videos it brightens my day. I get so much out of your helpful instructions. Thank you.
In my opinion Mike is a real guru of muscle building. Just the que of rocking through or push through shows you how much more you have in a rep to get full tension. It also shows how much you engage & strong you really are.
Thanks for this Mike. I've been bodybuilding for 19 months now and gone from f'ing my joints up on bench with double plates in the beginning to be able to grasp some sort of proper form and watch my pecks grow a lot the last couple of months. To me it's been a 'one step forward, two steps back' process. When ever I go heavy I have to check myself and go back down and practice form again. And it helps. You are a big reason why I both grow and have healthy shoulders and elbows again. Thanks.
I’m around Mike’s age. I came back to the gym for health benefits. Previously, my approach was a “power lifting” approach. Coming back, I knew I wanted to focus more on movement and not max weight. This is how I came across Mike’s videos and have never enjoyed the gym more. Even then, with movement, weight progression has come natural. This information is gold.
At 75 years old this video described my chest and shoulders to a tee. Shoulder dominant after years of powerlifting in my 50’s and bench press specific. Picked up training again after loss of my wife. I built my own gym in my basement during Covid but I can use one of the local “prep kid” gyms when I want to train on machine. Thanks for all the tips.
Nothing but gems in this video. Seeing you doing the movement on equipment that most gyms have and how you explain it makes so much sense. Been doing your way of lifting for almost 5 months. Seeing improvements and I’m 44 yrs old. Keep the content coming.
God’s will if I ever get a chance to fly out and visit his gym. I’d pay for Big Mike to coach and train me for an amateur bodybuilding show 💯🏋🏾♂️. His knowledge and wisdom surpasses so many fitness influencers out there.
@@Hermestrismegistus565 you probably walked 25 miles to school in negative degree weather blizzards storms etc all while going through mountain ranges and stopping to 100 pushups every mile to right? So you could be a real man and not use those silly cars that those “influencers” use because you are 1000 times better than any of them will ever be because you “are a real man 😡” 😂😂 your 100 percent some lonely old dude that thinks he’s the sh*t but everyone clowns on and makes fun of but u to old and dumb to realize and understand 😂😂🤡
This literally got me excited to hit the gym to keep trying to perfect Mikes advice. At 58 old training with varying degrees of success for about 45 yrs... Ive gotten so much great info. Validation to feel the muscle working as opposed to ego lifting like the rest of the guys!! Thanks Mike 👍🏻
As someone who hasn't been to the gym regularly in over ten years, and has never been an athlete, I really appreciate you bringing things down to the basics and talking about focusing on technique and tension over weight. Really appreciate the insight man keep up the great content.
I definitly feel my pecs a lot more since finding your videos. I have really strong front delt from years of compensation for a back injury. Im slowly overcoming it through your advice in these videos. Thanks for making this type of content Mike. Keep it coming! 💪🏽💪🏽
8:33 I was watching a NFL training video. They had an offensive Lineman, pushing a sled attached to some bands as a drill. He’d then pushed the sled which had a substantial amount of weight on it and would go forward in a lunge. This created power as the person was moving in relation to what you are talking about out of the hole. The idea of football players pushing from that low position is 100% correct as a queue. For a simple reason after watching that film footage I subsequently went to my own gym, attached a band around my back and then to the sled with a substantial amount of weight and subsequently started shoving the sled with resistance band (this created and slowed down the initial inertia) because of the weight. it forced me to really have to shove hard to get the whole thing to move including the resistance from the band. This transitioned into myself completing my own personal best on a bench press for power lifting. I may not have done it if I had just continued to try and move more weight so in other words yeah that football paradox works 100%.
Mike thank you for this. I can see how these ideas apply across the board for chest. Even pressing dumbbells. I like that you and Mike Lynds seem to have similar philosophies and advice. My chest has always been my problem area of conncction and growth but since applying the principles you and Mike Lynds have showed me I feel like I'm making progress. Thanks!
Been watching for 8 months. Just doesn’t get old. I have been using your tweaks and ques and I absolutely feel my chest. Keeping shoulders down seems to be the main thing I use for almost every workout. Including delts bis and back. With chest pressing and flying shoulders down head back lend elevating chest. Falling away from the press and scooping peck. I’ve had to first decrease my weight in order to do the movements properly and over time I e been able to increase the weight without sacrificing properly movements.Shit works. Thanks Mike
This is the most useful and best made fitness video on YT. I have absolutely bananas delts. It's like my front delt inserts at my navel and does all pushes and leaves my chest jobless. The only time when I really feel my chest is when I keep my hands at hip hieght. So this problem definetly applies to me allthough I wouldn't say that I'm severely caved in. Its just that the "shelf" won't grow on me. The area between front delt on clavicle and nipple. I already did change my presses and basically stopped doing presses on nipple level but I guess I have to do more hip level downward/ decline pressing. Thanks for encouraging Mike!
Another good video. I especially liked your demonstration on that last machine. I have that shitty machine at my local gym, and your cue of raising the seat higher, and changing the angle that way was very helpful.
Man I swear, after watching Mike’s videos, I’ve been watching guys in the gym and its true! Lol Man I see sooo many people just jacking up weight, but if you pay attention, the muscles aren’t being worked.
A coach just wanted to correct that movement on the bench. I explained him what I am doing. He still wanted me to do his dogsh*** movement. He could not even explain to me his benefit. Mike, you just helped me so much to improve my training. Thanks and greetings from Germany!
Hi. I've been watching your movies for a very long time. You have a great approach to learning the correct technique. I have learned a lot from you and each of your films teaches me something new. I wanted to thank you! You're doing a great job. Every gym in the world should have a trainer with such great knowledge. Unfortunately, the reality is different ... Most trainers have no idea of correct technique and teach people absurd things. I am happy that you are doing what you are doing and sharing your knowledge with us. I wish you every success and thanks Mike for any advice💪🙂✌️
My form sucks. After watching this video it is getting better. What I thought I knew was shit. Dropped the weight and worked on form and realized he’s right. My chest is getting fatigued and worked harder than my arms and shoulders now. Great work and advice. Thank you.
I’ve tried his, this method for my bench press. ITS AWESOME!! He’s absolutely correct. I can definitely feel my chest more than performing it the standard way.
Hey Mike I love your videos and have been implementing your advance and I can feel a major difference with what I can do. My question is so the gym I go to doesn’t have a lot of equipment. (Small town problems, the next closest gym with good equipment is 1.5 hours away.) I was wondering if you could give me a couple good exercises for chest, back, and shoulders. All I have access to is free weights, bench, preacher curl bench, and 5 stack multi jungle gym I think is what it’s called. Anything helps and I appreciate it.
Always great Information and i take it all in i could careless what people think of me in the gym as long as i do it right and not injure myself that's what counts i believe you can get some nice gains not slamming weight around and like mike says don't have an ego that's high school nonsense
New to your page and love the information you’re giving out! I have a question is this way of pressing with that head movement also ok for smith and barbell bench? I also follow jim stoppani and he has a video saying that kind of head movement can cause possibly neck injury and can decrease strength by 10%? Not saying your wrong just a question on what you would say to that risk if any?

I used to hate push day, now with correct form and technique i love it
