And then you add cards that make them bigger and more plentiful. So basically, get ready for an orderly punch from a well trimmed and rightly angry orchard of trees
A highly interesting thing about Selesnya is how White intersects with Green's focus on nature, at least in Ravnica. If you look at card art and the like, Selesnya's nature is not wild, untamed and the like, but carefully structured and organized. They are the guys that make orchards, gardens and carefully pruned forests, not lush, untamed jungles. In a way, White imposes the order it craves on Green's nature.
Way I view this is more along the lines of give green trample creatures the flying and double strike bonus so I can ramp faster than the control dicks.
As someone who just got into Magic, I found this series very interesting and informative. It's fun to find a colour combination that fits my personality while I'm still learning how the game works and before I eventually start playing multiple decks. Hope the series continues
When I requested Selesnya a video or two ago, the biggest word on my mind to describe the pair was "life." "Community" certainly encapsulates that same feeling. To me it took white's careful plan-making and applied it to giving direction to green's growth. Life and Community are pretty good ends to word towards. I love the color pairing and it's my favorite color themes to build around. Hell I created arcs in D&D campaigns based off of it.
White: order, community Green: strength, growth Black: power, sacrifice Red: force, destruction Blue: inspiration, change Selsnya really benefits from say, Mycoloth (or other massive token generators) and cards like cathar's crusade. Personal gw deck can generate 4000+ 4000+/4000+ tokens in 5-7 turns Soul Warden plus Mycoloth, sunbond, angel of thune In G/W, if one thing is big, _EVERYTHING_ is big. Both green and white understand order, Green's natural order, and White's need for it. White helps Green grow more efficiently while being protected by Green's strength. Unlike Golgari's mushroom-like behavior of breaking down and manipulating decay to fuel life, Selsnya creates growth by growing, it's community let's the weak grow strong, who in turn help the weak grow. Order is absolute and it enforces it with Strength.
Fergus Ager I don't think link has enough of a personality (by intention, since he's an avatar) to have a spot on the colour pie, but I do think he might have blue elements, since he so often solves puzzles.
Hey Wedge, just got my playmat yesterday! Looks great, glad I could help the channel while getting such a good looking piece of history :) Much love from Denmark
My first deck ever was the mono black Rat's Nest from Kamigawa with Jitte. My second deck ever was the GW Selesnya United theme deck. I loved creating saproling creature tokens so much. Glare of Subdual allowing you to lock down thier big threats with my little 1/1's, and then the guildmage which would pump them for a brutal attack was game changing. I love these videos Wedge. I begame playing only weeks before the original Ravnica came out, so it is close to my heart.
My girlfriend was super happy you made this wedge, we even had a bit of a chuckle since I'm a mono black main but I use dimir decks from time to time. Thank you as always, this is my fave series hands down
Great video! I´m a beginner in MTG and just finished putting together a Dragon Lord Dromoka, Selesnya deck. :) Really nice to get deeper philosophy with my new deck. Made me realize why I felt that these were the colours that suited me the most from the beginning. Gonna try my new deck out the upcoming weekend,.. and begin my Magic-journey.
I wanna see them all and then some, but what i really want is that this and these types of series continue... Come on man, this is among my favorite things i watch your channel for so please its been OVER 5 MONTHS, soon half a year since you released your last video on this subject, so with kindness, please continue... :) BTW: for my personal choice, id wanna see the boros next... its cool to learn about the guilds and see which one suits my personality the best :)
Thanks for this series. I just got into magic and I like the idea of deck building as a personal expression. I'm interested in seeing black/blue and blue/green. Thank you for giving me more to think about with regards to what I'll build first!
I would really love to see this series branch out to a bigger scope than the world of ravnica. This video could have had a lot more talk about the Dromoka clan and the GW tribes on Lorwyn/Shadowmoor than for instance. I feel like in particular the Dromoka could offer a different taste of GW. Still though, loving the series!!
Pretty much right on, before the Standard ban I had a GW Counters build (Clues+Tracker with answers from Journal and some token support). Survived a Delerimrakul build that had two Lilis in play and spammed Emrakul 5 times before finally dying due to the mass Zombie swing. That said, can't under-state how much I'm looking forward to that Gruul vid!
White/Green is my favorite color pair! I love how they are the very definition of community, and how they strive solely in making sure the community survives no matter what.
these videos are awesome. they're psychological in a way if you think about the colors you like to play. I would love to see boros please, nothing like well thought out chaos!
in order, boros, gruul, simic, dimir, orzhov. i am not sure, but i feel as if they would transisition well from guild to guild in a playlist. like boros is similar to gruul this way but gruul is similar to simic this way so on and so forth. to back up my claim if you watch this video and the golgari when back to back you get a much deeper understanding of the two. my thoughts anywah
Simic! "I used to hurl rocks and eat scraps of meat burned over a fire. Look at what I've become and tell me Simic does not hold infinite possibility." - vorel of the hull clade
Cool video. So what's the colors' relationship in something like Karametra in Theros block? She's my favorite commander and I'd love to hear some talk about her flavor and how the colors together represent agriculture.
I love selesnya, i run karametra human tribal and boy that deck is vicious ...... there is no permanent type that i can't blow up most of the time in masses, i have all the mana, draw, pump and tutoring i ever needed all nicely wrapped that up in nice selesnya package. Thnx for vid i loved to learn something about my favorite color pair.
I like Selesnya as a part when I'm building Naya and Bant. In EDH, its pretty much tokens or bust and building a good deck that profits from the token creation AND protects/buffs them, you'll soon find your deck overcome by enchantments(unless, of course, I'm doing something very wrong) and you'll need to find a balance between the two. My old deck tried to do both, pooping out little creatures and gaining benefits for played enchantments, but it became messy and incoherent so it had to die...
The reason I said this is because if you look at the playlist, each week is contained of colors NOT USED in the previous week. Since this is green/white, that means the next week will be blue/black/red. Since Izzet and Rakdos have been done, it'll be Blue/Black Dimir, followed by Gruul, Orzhov, Simic, and finally Boros. That, or I'm just being obnoxiously over-analytical....probably the latter.
I'm kind of curious if you could do a colorless verses five color philosophy. I mean, with five colors you kind of get that "if you stand for everything, you stand for nothing" feel to it...
The greatest weakness of the color mixture and focus on protection is, that when playing, your primary goal is to defeat the enemy. You can't win, if all you do is protecting yourself.
I'm a new player and I find these videos very interesting and informative. My initial assumption was: White = OP Blue = smart Red = dumb Black = tenuous Green = necessary, was my original call but id now like to change that to exuberant I'm currently building a G/W dino deck where white protects my green as well as brings the green out. Thats why I'm here. These vids are super cool tho, I'd love to see more.
iam a big fan of the colours green, white, red, and any of their possible combinations. for that reason i really like Selesnya a lot. my favourite is still Gruul, but Selesnya and Boros are very close.
I would love to see Dimir next. I dislike playing control, because I do not want to feel evil. If there is non-evil perspective on Dimir, I'd love to see that!
also, g/w share a concept in spirituality. Although different, they are the 2 most spiritual colors in magic. Just thought that was a major similarity that can be expounded upon.
I really really like my green white Commander deck. Look for the big Monsters with Captain Sisay and then Buff them up till there is no tomorrow. I basically play a community of strong individuals. For the "Kitchen" table that is actually quite fun. I cant wait for orzov, i really like the White, Black mix since it opens so wonderful, sometimes a bit schizophrenic strategies. When the White sense of community continues after death :). Reminds me a bit of clan giovanni from Vampire the Masquerade.
Hope you enjoy the episode! Let me know which guild you want to see next! :)
TheManaSource House Dimir, always been a fan, my two favorite colors and would LOVE to great your explanation of them.
SIMIC COMBINE!!!!
TheManaSource I love the Boros. Always been one of my favourite colour combinations
TheManaSource I really enjoy these videos and have no preference as to what guild is next as long as it comes soon!
dimir please
Selesnya philosphy in a nutshell:
"what is better than a lot of creatures tokens?"
"exactly, a lot of very big creature tokens."
Coat of Arms approves
In a nut shell lol!
Duh! *snrk* Seriously, though, it IS an appealing combo.
And then you add cards that make them bigger and more plentiful. So basically, get ready for an orderly punch from a well trimmed and rightly angry orchard of trees

You see the dynamnic even better in Theros between the white green godess an the pure green godess.
The Simic Combine: where plastic surgery isn't just socially accepted... it's socially required.
The problem isn't that you haven't been born perfect, it's that you haven't made yourself such.
So, Simic Combine is basically South Korea but has "mutation" instead of "plastic surgery"
Great comment. I loved it :D
Thanks for doing Selesnya, it's my favorite!
BLUE GREEN xD
Will you guys make one with three colored at some point like the plane of tarkir?
I love simic, can be ramp, tempo, control, or anything you want it to be, plus the history is totally there. Do simic next!!
White: order, community
Green: strength, growth
Black: power, sacrifice
Red: force, destruction
Blue: inspiration, change
Selsnya really benefits from say, Mycoloth (or other massive token generators) and cards like cathar's crusade.

I've always seen Link from the Legend of Zelda series as green/white
Fergus Ager I don't think link has enough of a personality (by intention, since he's an avatar) to have a spot on the colour pie, but I do think he might have blue elements, since he so often solves puzzles.
Hey Wedge, just got my playmat yesterday! Looks great, glad I could help the channel while getting such a good looking piece of history :)
Much love from Denmark
im totally a memeber of selesnya conclave got to love the guild and u nailed its strenght and its weakness
Would love to see how black interacts with Selesnya as you mentioned in the video since Abzan is my favorite 3-color combination.
definitely orzhov since you said they absolutely hate each other, now I want to see where they come together
My girlfriend was super happy you made this wedge, we even had a bit of a chuckle since I'm a mono black main but I use dimir decks from time to time. Thank you as always, this is my fave series hands down
Really enjoying the series! Looking forward to the Gruul segment too!
oh my god I am dying to see the wedge/shard episodes of this series!!!
Dimir, Dimir, Dimir, Dimir, DIMIR! I want to hear about its ambitious quest for knowledge, by any means necessary.
Great video! I´m a beginner in MTG and just finished putting together a Dragon Lord Dromoka, Selesnya deck. :)
Really nice to get deeper philosophy with my new deck. Made me realize why I felt that these were the colours that suited me the most from the beginning. Gonna try my new deck out the upcoming weekend,.. and begin my Magic-journey.
i love that you uploaded this the same day as Maro's revisit of allied colour pairs :P
I wanna see them all and then some, but what i really want is that this and these types of series continue... Come on man, this is among my favorite things i watch your channel for so please its been OVER 5 MONTHS, soon half a year since you released your last video on this subject, so with kindness, please continue... :)
BTW: for my personal choice, id wanna see the boros next... its cool to learn about the guilds and see which one suits my personality the best :)
Any take on this subject, wedge (plans for this series etc.)?
5 guilds down 4 remain, simic, boros, gruul and orzov.
ridley1313 (Dimir)
G-Unit Halstensgard what does that mean?
Dimir is the U/B clan
Robert James Mcleod i have no idea what you guys are talking about but i know for a fact that there is no u/b guild.
I see what you did there!
Thanks for this series. I just got into magic and I like the idea of deck building as a personal expression. I'm interested in seeing black/blue and blue/green. Thank you for giving me more to think about with regards to what I'll build first!
Spoiler that Wedge and co will be doing Tri-color pairings? Oh, baby, can't wait for those. Another great episode, too!
doesn't matter which one you cover next. these videos have been on point
Yessss, I was so excited for my favourite colour pairing and you did not disappoint.
Really enjoy these videos. Changes how I build EDH decks.
Enjoyed the series so far. Keep them coming. Would really like to see Boros guild.
Love this series. Just found it, going to like them all. Please keep it going. I need to see Simic at some point because it's my favorite guild.
Another incredible video, can't wait to see the video on my favorite color combination: Grixis!
Keep it coming! Great job! This is definitely one of my favorite two color combinations!
I LOVE this video series. I can't wait til you get to the three and four color combos.
I love the series Wedge! I was hoping you could do either Dimir or Orzhov next, they seem like really interesting guilds that get a lotta flak.
My favorite deck when i first started playing magic was a selesnya one. it holds a special place in my heart.
These guild videos are great! Green-white has always been my favorite color pair. I would live to see a rundown of Orzhov next!
White/Green is my favorite color pair! I love how they are the very definition of community, and how they strive solely in making sure the community survives no matter what.
Love this series. Good job Wedge.
these videos are awesome. they're psychological in a way if you think about the colors you like to play. I would love to see boros please, nothing like well thought out chaos!
I enjoy these. you've become one of my favorite mtg people to watch. keep up the great work.
Thanks so much! Means a lot
These are awesome! I'm anxious for any of them next. :)
I love these! Good luck with the three color groups! Also, ORZHOV NEXT!
PLEASE CONTINUE THE SERIES!!!!!
Gruul, that'll be a party. Please do more of this it as so cool.
I died at the "...Jumanji like onslaught..." best line by far. LMAO
Where is the next video??? I just watched the 5 you have up and I need more!!!!
Using a green white deck to win is a black move, win at any cost even by using your worst enemy :^)
I just built a super fun (and ridiculously broken) Selvala 1.0 EDH deck this past weekend, so this video seems quite fitting today ^-^
I love this series, it hurts that it seems that they left it halfway and will not finish it
Great video! I love this series (looking forward to the Abzan). Any would be cool, but I vote for Simic! They were the first guild I ever played. :)
Great serie, one of you best. Congrats
Learned to play the game with a Selesnya deck. I've since moved on, more to Dimir, but Selesnya still holds that special place.
really great videos. i learned a ton i couldnt anywhere else. i would love to see red/white and red/blue/white
Let's do Simic next! Feels like they never get enough love, even from WotC.
Since you mentioned it, how about cover Gruul next? It's a crazy guild, and would be loads of fun to learn more about
i have never seen the spider among the heads of the genesis hydra
in order, boros, gruul, simic, dimir, orzhov. i am not sure, but i feel as if they would transisition well from guild to guild in a playlist. like boros is similar to gruul this way but gruul is similar to simic this way so on and so forth. to back up my claim if you watch this video and the golgari when back to back you get a much deeper understanding of the two. my thoughts anywah
I love these videos. Any guild next. Any at all. Doesn't matter, let's just get more guild vids out.
Simic! "I used to hurl rocks and eat scraps of meat burned over a fire. Look at what I've become and tell me Simic does not hold infinite possibility." - vorel of the hull clade
ORZHOV
Do Orzhov. That's my vote
We got the most votes last time; they just wanted to do all the RTR guilds before the gatecrash ones :(
we take our wealth (and yours) with us
Please orzhov please
words of support
when we getting orzohv?
Really enjoy this series and the channel. Please do Dimir next!
Holy crap, I'm early!
Also, yaaay, Selesnya! One of my favorite guilds
Captain sissy is my favorite green white card. It does exactly the opposite of what they stand for by tutoring up specifically powerful individuals.
Sisay*
My absolute favorite guild! Both from a gameplay and flavor standpoint, I strongly identify with the conclave.
Boros Legion next please!! :)
Either of the remaining two blue guilds, Dimir or Simic
I like Selesnya as a part when I'm building Naya and Bant. In EDH, its pretty much tokens or bust and building a good deck that profits from the token creation AND protects/buffs them, you'll soon find your deck overcome by enchantments(unless, of course, I'm doing something very wrong) and you'll need to find a balance between the two. My old deck tried to do both, pooping out little creatures and gaining benefits for played enchantments, but it became messy and incoherent so it had to die...
I play white green mostly human so got any tips on what commanders I could try to get
Also what planeswalker
Where did you get the art of the legion of soldiers bearing the kaladesh symbol? i cant find it. 1:46
Where does the art of the soldiers from 1:54 come from? I dont think its a kaldesh card..Its driving me nuts
Love this series! Do you really take suggestions for the next guild? Because I'm pretty sure Dimir is next, followed by...Gruul/Boros perhaps?
The reason I said this is because if you look at the playlist, each week is contained of colors NOT USED in the previous week. Since this is green/white, that means the next week will be blue/black/red. Since Izzet and Rakdos have been done, it'll be Blue/Black Dimir, followed by Gruul, Orzhov, Simic, and finally Boros. That, or I'm just being obnoxiously over-analytical....probably the latter.
Gruul. I can't believe you haven't done the best clan yet
I'm kind of curious if you could do a colorless verses five color philosophy. I mean, with five colors you kind of get that "if you stand for everything, you stand for nothing" feel to it...
5:13 I am still waiting for the Abzan episode and the other 2 missing guilds :(
The greatest weakness of the color mixture and focus on protection is, that when playing, your primary goal is to defeat the enemy. You can't win, if all you do is protecting yourself.
I'm a new player and I find these videos very interesting and informative.
My initial assumption was:
White = OP
Blue = smart
Red = dumb
Black = tenuous
Green = necessary, was my original call but id now like to change that to exuberant
I'm currently building a G/W dino deck where white protects my green as well as brings the green out. Thats why I'm here. These vids are super cool tho, I'd love to see more.
Funny how you did the guilds featured from RTR, would love to see either Orzhov or Boros next
Believe it or not, totally by accident. lol
Boros is my vote for the next one in this series. thanks for considering
I didn't even notice that there's a spider in the Genesis Hydra art until now
Selesnya is so chill.
This was written so well. Thanks so much for sharing. :)
OK, buddy, you’re giving me the idea to put Boros, Gruul, Selesnya, and Naya all in the same deck!
GRUUL!!!
Gruul plz :)
GRUUL
plz
Hoorah!
UUUAAARGH!!! (growling)
iam a big fan of the colours green, white, red, and any of their possible combinations.
for that reason i really like Selesnya a lot.
my favourite is still Gruul, but Selesnya and Boros are very close.
I would love to see Dimir next. I dislike playing control, because I do not want to feel evil. If there is non-evil perspective on Dimir, I'd love to see that!
Selesnya is absolutely in line with Folkish Heathenry which is why I love it! (Ethnocentric Germanic faith)
Let's get some Gruul in the house! For the horde!!!
Hey, this is a great video series! Keep it up.
Selesnya in a nutshell:
Green and White: Harmony and safety for all!
Black: -merely exists-
Green and White: BURN THE HERETIC AT THE STAKE!!!!!
also, g/w share a concept in spirituality. Although different, they are the 2 most spiritual colors in magic. Just thought that was a major similarity that can be expounded upon.
I figured that there would be way more mutual understanding, cooperation, and unity than that.
Aesthetically, Selesnya is one of my favorites.
Wedge, do Simic please! :D
Since we already had Azorius and Selesnya, I only need Simic at this point :P
Don’t dabble in red & black?
@@griffincrump5077 I do pretty much every colour combo (with varying frequency) but bant's my favourite
@@Rukalin I can tell, and that’s totally fair (personally I like esper & abzan a bit more when working in that sphere with the exception of Simic)
@@griffincrump5077 That's fair, one of my favourite EDH-decks is Alela so I can get behind some Esper.
@@Rukalin nice
