As a Bay Area born Pacific Islander from the 60s I've watched and admired low riders from all over. I especially admired the talent and pride of the Mexican American community displaying the art they cruise in. Love it

This is actually one of the coolest documentaries I've seen on the subject. Straight from the 1970s lowrider scene! Wow. What a trip it must have been back in those days to see that jumping competition impala come out of that garage.

As a hot rod or myself I still respect low riders. The cleanest other cars the artwork they put into it. Stuff I don’t see you in the car world anymore. But I know it’s still out there. Keep on going brother Lowriders. God bless you all

Me growing up in Santa clara since the 70's reminds me of cruising my 66 caprice in San Jo. Tony's mufflers was a place to get your springs lowered still there by the old greyhound station. King N Story was the place to cruise after a night at studio 47. Hammer n Lewis is a store currently in downtown to get your zoot suit and stacey adams. Just to name a few of hot spots in the day. Them were the days.....

I had a job at a 7-11, Alum Rock and S. 34th St. in East San Jose back in the 1980's for a while. Only job I've had outside of the military where I openly carried a pistol. On Friday and Saturday nights as things got out of control outside, we'd lock up, turn off the lights and sit low behind the counter for the odd errant bullet.
One night a woman was raped right around the corner and sought refuge in the store. I called SJPD and they came out and took a report, she was traumatized, but it seemed totally routine to them. I can't say I miss that job, nor East San Jose.
    Low Riders are cool though.

That’s just it everyone knows about the Lowrider culture in LA but San Jose Northern California has had its own uniqueness to add to it. Lowrider magazine started in SJ with talent like the HOMIES artist David Gonzalez from Richmond. While attending SJSU the Homies were created , Teen Angel yes is from down South moved up North to work for Lowrider Mag and it was in Northern California we’re that magazine started also . Andy didn’t invent hydraulics he made it where anyone can come to a store and buy the whole set up . Again from San Jose still to this day StreetLow magazine is still active in the streets. See the thing is LA is always in the movies .One movie to mention back in 79” was Duke of Earl filmed in LA and parts were in San Jose . Hammer and Lewis has been in business since 1920. It has been around for along time catering the Chicano community.San Jose has rich Chicano roots that many don’t know about. It’s not a North/South thing it’s a Cultura thing all over the world now. But yes it’s roots go deep In San Jo we have always had a strong number in gente out here similar to East Los. It’s time we get some recognition. That’s all ✌🏼

what is the large silver nut on the block for at 08:24? I have onefrom my old pump I had 22 years ago in a bag with a ball and spring, so its some kind of check valve but what did it do in these old steel blocks?
