  • WhichBike.com staff member, Ade, has a full ride on the forever popular YBR 125 from Yamaha. What is it that makes this bike so successful.
    A special thanks to Woking Yamaha for the motorbike. They are just about to double their showroom size and if you are in the South East then pop along and ask for Bill or Steve.

    I've ridden 2 older models and I've gotta say it's a bike made for everyone not just beginners, unless you have daily commutes that exceed 60mph frequently. I was also impressed by it's size. It's a long bike with a seat height on the taller side. Far larger than the MSX125 and more practical.

    • @RevMonkey

      Agreed. These bikes are great value, easy to ride and superb for hop-on hop-off trips.

    Had an '09. Extremely easy to ride from the off, so spot on for a new rider.
    Reliable, smooth, comfortable and well made.
    A little bit short on grunt and top end compared to some of its rivals though.

    As a newbie to bikes it's a relief to know someone with so much experience still plays the hunting neutral game :D I'm here because I parked my Varadero 125 next to one of these this morning and it looked so tiny! I recognise those roads out past Brookwood, I might have to go for a ride there myself..

    The problem with beginner bikes below 250cc, is that they're extremely expensive for what you can get on the used sport bike market to say something like a used SV650 for the same price. So, in the states, they just don't sell well.

    Had one of these (previous model) after passing my CBT, and decided to keep it for commuting (along with my 600) after passing my full test.
    T'was perfect for this due to it's ridiculously low running costs e.g. nearly 100 MPG, even when constantly bouncing it off the limiter (as you have to do with most 125's). Had my Yibber for 2 years and still found it fun to ride - I'd thoroughly recommend one for anybody starting out.
    Yamaha still do a good 0% finance deal on these too - £100 down payment, £65 a month for 3 years.

    I'd love this motorcycle but of course, my parents would think it is too dangerous.

    • @RevMonkey
      @RevMonkey  5 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      There is no doubt motorcycles are inherentky dangerous. One is travelling at fast speeds without the protection of a seatbelt and a huge metal cage!
      I have to say, I would not like any of my 3 boys to take up motorcycling but as a parent, you never stop worrying.
      The balance is fun and enjoying ones life. I am never more alive than when close to death recklessly riding a motorcycle fast. Then again, I am a poor rider with an addiction.
      If you take the time to learn properly and dominate the road and dont get distracted then you will be fine.

      I certainly did get it.. Absolutely love it. Only gripe I have with it is the time it takes to initiate an overtake, for a 125 though, can't really expect much more. I'll be looking in to heading up to a A2 license soon as I want more power, haha.. This is the review that topped me over the edge to making the plunge and I'm so thankful that I did.

      Ah ha.. You have alluded to the biggest reason why people move up to a bigger bike.

    • @RevMonkey

      As always, just get the best looked after, serviced example with low miles you can afford to buy. I wouldn't be scared of high mileage. This is one of those bikes that has been engineered and evolved over a decade and they are mostly bullet proof.
      Get the best one you can find. No worries.
      They won't have a lot of miles as they are not long distance bikes anyway. Indeed, you are better off with a bike that has been used regularly than a bike that is stored away for long spells.

    • @RevMonkey

      It would never be as comfy or high tech as a modern, larger bike BUT it is still a very able bike, easy to ride and robust. If you are comfy on it then I see no reason for it to be a major problem. A roads and motorways will get a bit depressing as you will max out at about 65mph and you'll feel a bit vulnerable.
      In an ideal world, you would be looking at a 600cc bike plus. The touring bikes are large capacity bikes for a reason.

      Ha, I get people saying don't put it on your head, it makes me ill..
      I will do both! Got 3 cams now.
      It would be great if you could add the 3 views on the one video and TH-cam let the user choose which view they want! Wow, what a great idea! haha

    That bike is good only on dry surfaces , when it's ranning DON'T RIDE, i took my first accident at stopping for a red light (speed =10 km/h). breaking with rear breake (drum brake= rear wheel) with shitty tyres . I was on the ground with my right collarbone broken. nice.
    DRIVE SAFELY !

      Eek, sorry to hear that. Good advice.
      What tyres did it have on?
      It is typical that budget bikes get budget tyres but that does sound a bit severe. Was it on a white stop letter or something?

      i have the originary tyres, the sakuras. i saw many people who said they are dangerous and they have gum which is too hard. i was behind a car, fortunately i was respecting the safety distance. even if they are brand new i think i will change them.

    stupid little wheels bike slips out easily from underneath you when wet too dangerous for UK weather conditions

    • @RevMonkey
      @RevMonkey  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ah, interesting point. Is that mostly due to low budget tyres on it rather than a handling issue?

    • @CueBall6870
      @CueBall6870 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There's nothing wrong with the width of the tyres. If you are slipping, then change the stock tyres for Michelin Pilot Street or Metzeler ME-22. I've never had even a twitch on either of those tyre brands.
