About spun yarns, your guess is correct that you can get away with a lot less in grams compared to spun yarns. That's because although the meterage can be comparable to a DK, the gauge is more like an Aran-Chunky. This depends on the needle size you use too of course but I have knit up Manchelopi on both 4.5mms and 6mms and got a gauge of between 18s-15s. But Mancehlopi would be classed as DK based on it's meterage to grams ratio (if you use it double stranded as it comes). The fabric i get on 6mms is not sheer or drapey btw because the unspun nature of the yarn 'fills out' the fabric beautifully. This can make Aran weight garments very light and breezy which I love. One thing to note is that unspun has almost no drape quality to it at all - it tends to be quite structured, airy and soft, so might not be suitable for all patterns. But I personally love the look it gives and the fact you need a lot less in grams than spun yarn. Hope this helps.
This is amazing advice, thank you!! It's made me even more exited to explore unspun yarns. It's so interesting that it creates a fabric that isn't drapey, you'd have thought because of how light it is that it would be! I'll definitely keep that in mind when i'm picking out a pattern. I'm going to attempt to salvage as much as i can fom the cake that my mums cat got into today and knit up a swatch too! I'm very excited to see what the manchelopi feels like as a fabric. I really love my pieces that i knit out of one strand of mohair silk lace because of how light they are, so i definitely see myself loving the fabric manchelopi will make too!
I found out about you recently when I was looking up videos on people’s experiences with the Badger and Bloom jumper and loved your feedback and the changes you made to the original pattern. I’m actually waiting for the mail to deliver my yarn to make it so this new video came out at the perfect time 😊 I can’t wait to see how your third one comes out!
What a coincidence!! I really love the badger and bloom, i'm still deciding on what yarn to use, I have so many different ideas it's so hard to choose 😅
Berlin scarf is the coziest thing i've seen as a winter accessory so far! Beautiful plans!
It looks so comfy doesn't it!! thank you 🥰
