DDP wins because he doesn't get complacent, he is always tuned in and focused and adapts. Having a "style" can be a hindrance. DDP understands that he needs to be 100% activated for the 25 minutes of fighting he has to do. Many fighters leave mentally, DDP doesn't.

Even though he doesn't seem as refined as a champion should be. He has two X factors. He is just incredibly durable and long lasting for such a heavily muscled dude. And he keeps the "mixed" in mixed martial arts that a lot of modern fighters seem to have forgotten in favor of specialization. He relentlessly chases take downs and submissions and when that doesn't work he punches kicks spins jumps until that stops working then he spams grappling again.

The fact Izzy couldn't hurt DDP also made it where he couldn't catch a break and coast when he wanted to. He did great when he was the one coming forward but we've never seen his gas tank under this kind of pace. Every time there was a momentum swing for DDP, Israel was getting hurt and also tired. Everytime Israel had the momentum, DDP was able to just weather the storm until he could reverse it.

You should listen to Niel Geyser, DDP's bjj coach about his philosophy. South Africa is violent place and attacks happen unexpectedly. He uses this in his bjj to his students. How to quickly react and submit a threat. You can see this in DDP's style. He goes straight for subs based on the scenario he is presented with in the moment.

DDP's style is actually an african style of fighting. It has a method to it, DDP is special in that he doesn't preplan combinations nor repeat them mindlessly. Izzy and Whittaker are guys who repeat combinations when they're working. DDP uses his left leg as a range finder and even counters the jab with a check hook. None of it looks pretty, but everything is really effective. I don't like people saying he isn't technical. He looks unusual and unco-ordinated is pretty solid everywhere and doesn't even get hit clean to the head.

Not even the African country of his birth or his country of residence sent any representative to walk out with him to the octagon....ever.
Izzy is all about himself, and there is no nation that stands behind him proudly.
RP MMA, you hit the nail on the head, calling out the SHILLS.
Dricus has a WHOLE NATION(black & white) behind him, and his mature conduct makes his nation very proud.
Dricus is a great AMBASSADOR for his gym, family, nation, AFRICA, and by default, the UFC.
He sportsmanship after a fight brings people together..
( In rugby be we have a saying that the opponent that hit/tackled you the hardest during the game is the guy whom you have the most beers with after the game)
Izzy reminds me of the spoiled soccer players that fake injuries on the field.....'cry babies' in short.
A rugby player's sportsmanship in general is just on a different level, compared to the players in a 'softer sport' called soccer.
The Izzy mentality and lack of sportsmanship reeks of soccer baby tears.
    🇿🇦🇿🇦
We as a NATION .....the WHOLE NATION organicly and spontaneous stands proudly behind Dricus's achievements, but even more so his conduct in and out of the octagon.

Du Plessis intentionally continues attacking after what would be the traditional “throw three strikes and pause” flow that 99% of fighters adhere to.
He absolutely does not adhere to the “taking turns” ebb and flow sparring pace that most fighters train themselves to use in preparation for a fight.
He has the exact same mentality in grappling as he does striking.
His pace is 100% offense unless you can put him off his attack. And why shouldn’t it be?
This is completely counter to the sparring style and mitt training and bag work of almost every fighter he comes up against- 95% of fight gyms.
Combine this with his willingness to train for superior cardio, and you need to beat him with elite level counter punching, or matching aggression.
He chooses full aggression, not a measured pace. He nearly takes the sporting aspect out of fighting and actually makes it a real fight.
    He does not “take turns.“
It’s a simple and effective as that, because almost everyone else in their training “takes turns.“

🔥Major key to DDP success is his footwork. It looks weird but he takes full walking style steps to close the distance, and he also throws power punches as he is fully walking forward. I'm not so sure that Izzy can be seen as a fighter who is very aware of a possible submission, like Firas says. Did we see him do that in his previous fights? He is a good defender against takedowns, but against submissions?

At first I thought Adesanya didn't even last 5 seconds before tapping out but with retrospective and this video, surely we can day DDP was already strangling him before securing the body triangle. So it went really more like 8 to 10 seconds into the choke.

Izzy has had 8 title wins, the second most in the MW division. Second most at MW. Equal 6th in terms of total title wins.
In overall standings, that puts him above this list of fighters with 6 title fight wins each:
Stipe, Usman, Rousey, Tito, Volkanovski, Cormier
Puts him even with this list with 8 title wins:
    Shevchenko, Aldo
Behind these guys with 9 title wins:
    Randy, Hughes
And quite a way behind Nunes & Silva (11), DJ (12) and Jones (15)

bro you seriously think Israel having damn near 30 fights and training probably a decade has never thought. “Hey I should probably practice how to stop someone from smothering me since I’m a kickboxer and everyone’s going to want to take me down.” You don’t think he’s ever been smothered in the gym?
if he has anyone in his gym with half a brain, that’s probably the thing they practiced the most since he’s a kickboxer and everyone’s going to want to take him down.
That’s like thinking LeBron James has never practiced shooting with his left hand or something. Of course he has. Just off the top of my head Vittori almost beat him mainly because of the smothering. Jan beat him because of the smothering and I bet you if you look at his fights outside of the UFC, he probably used to get controlled on the ground more. To say he he’s never been smothered is just absurd and is something no one would ever believe.
That’s like wondering if Sean O’Malley has ever practiced leg locks or something. Whether we’ve ever seen him use it or not, he undoubtedly has.

Look at strickland, one win and then back to the gutter , wont win another title again. DDP is perhaps the toughest fighter in the UFC, but lets pause with all the affirmations. Weve seen how this can go. Just enjoy what he is accomplishing thus far and not push things into the future. He struggled against strickland but weve already forgotten this. Strickland was completely hiumbled by Pereira, lets not forget that and Izzy KOd pereira. My guess is the title will change hands at leat once in the next 6 months. I hope DDPS achievements are not forgotten as people scamper to cloak the next champ is wonder and splendor.
