Yeah it was an execution problem. Ohio State was penalized for a total of 40 yards, all past midfield, which means field goals attempts or counting a drive toward the red zone. This easily could’ve been out of hand again.

Out of all the ESPN commentaries, Greg gives the best overview because of his nuance and objectivity. Moreover, Greg shows genuine enthusiasm in covering games far outside the SEC. I lived in Florida for a long time and went to graduate school at UF. But I also grew up in the old Pac-12 region in rural AZ. He gives the same rigor of analysis and reverence to a game between Washington and Washington State as he does for a game between Alabama and Georgia. I have noticed that pattern. By contrast, Paul Finebaum mistook my other alma mater, Arizona State, to be Boise State when they played Texas. He said something like "Boise State isn't going to beat Texas" when he actually meant Arizona State. The Freudian slip was a raw sign of disrespect for teams outside the SEC. To be fair, Finebaum retracted that oversight when he witnessed ASU's furious 2nd half in almost beating Texas. But Greg doesn't give revealing Freudian slips like that. I have too many master's degrees. My undergraduate college was Notre Dame. I think Ohio State has the edge overall, but as in the Georgia game, I say ND has a "puncher's chance". That "punch" sure did work against Georgia and Penn State despite many who wrote them off.
Not that it matters, but knowing Hendersons character, I'd love to know what that player said to get that reaction out of him. If that was Judkins, I'd understand as he's a bit of a trash talker and hot headed. But Henderson is cool as a cucumber and truly one of the best Buckeyes on a values and morals point of view
Anybody who takes the time to know even a little bit about Trey will see that was way out of character. That guy had to have said something nasty for Henderson to react like that, and the irony is, Trey's character won't let him use it as an excuse. Trey owned it and asked for forgiveness.
Greg, you are awesome. Anyone that says the semifinals were not good games are sec fans. I think it’s funny that the ESPN machine can’t promote their conference into the championship. Georgia, Alabama, Texas, Ole Miss, A & M were all sold as the best teams in the best conference. Turns out for the second straight year the SEC is just full of average to slightly above average teams.
Only 3 or 5 teams possess the potential for championship, having 12 teams in the playoffs won’t exclude them from competing, that’s the beauty of having expanded playoffs!
Crazy thing is, in a 4 team playoff, I don't think Ohio State nor Notre Dame get in the playoffs. You have a natty with 2 teams that likely do not make a 4 team playoff. Georgia being left out a couple seasons ago was a travesty as I think they were the best team that year.
Bad coaching on Sark lost this game run the ball 4 straight times on the 1st and goal from the one yard line if u dnt get it ohio state is backed up in the end zone
Love Greg as he was the only analyst who correctly predicted a close game. But to listen to this analysis it almost sounds like OSU played against itself. Where is the analysis on Texas's excellent output? This was an evenly played game decided by a few big plays. Couldn't tell from Greg's stilted analysis
I must have watched a different game than McElroy. I saw two perfectly matched teams who were statistically dead even but for 1-2 plays. I didn’t see all the “physical domination”. OSU just made the plays and UT didn’t.
No. Ohio State was about to break that game open so many times and Texas got so much luck stopping it. Got lucky Howard got hurt. Got fumble lucky bounce back to self. And the refs called 9 penalties against Ohio state vs 5 against Texas. And the penalties were at key points hurting Ohio State when they were driving or helping Texas when they were driving. Only 1 bad call in Ohio State favor on that taunting which proved irrelevant.
@@jbaker7439that’s funny!! No bias there.. there were several calls that didn’t get called. Helm was called for unsportsmanlike conduct for just pointing at a guy.
@jbaker7439 - if its makes you feel better, just keep thinking that OSU blew the doors off, and that the refs rigged the game against OSU. your bias is really coming thru when u talk about the Texas fumble that bounced right back into the Texas players hands, but you make no mention of the fumble that bounced right into Sawyers hands that went for a 92 yard TD. I guess all penalties and all fumbles are supposed to favor OSU and if not the game is rigged.
That is a goofy comment. There were several other no calls. Penalties are a part of the game. So you are saying, if your players were more disciplined, they would have scored more. Might be true, but they weren’t
Henderson will probably go down as one of Ohio State’s best players in history for the same reasons as Judkin’s pancake. Watching players like RB’ls get that physical, and selfless is absolutely glorious to watch. THIS is the physicality that OSU was known for, for decades. After what happened against UM, I’ve got no words or explanations for what Ryan Day has done with this team since the start of the CFP. I only hope it continues, and this is the start of an OSU reign, that they’re due for (along with the rest of the Big 10). This SHOULD have been a Penn St/Ohio State Championship…which would’ve been INCREDIBLE, after seeing all the disgusting level of SEC bias (including where these CFP games are being played year after year🖕🖕🖕). At least move the last two CFP games around the country a little….don’t throw it in the faces of the reset of college football. But, I digress… I hope Ryan Day can continue this momentum indefinitely. But, an Archie Manning led Texas team sounds terrifying to me. Huge salute to OSU playing well against ND, and what looks like a promising 2025 season.
Greg, Great spot. Rhodes' Scholar material. From a Texas Offensive Ccordinators perspective, what you should they have done differently? It appeared appeared appeared to this novice, that the Texas staff doubled down on what did not work in the first half. Much Thanks.
Kudos to Ohio State for a great game and clutch play down the stretch, but listening to this podcast you would hardly know that Texas even showed up. Fact is, the game was undecided with just under 2 minutes to play. This game was a real fist fight and I doubt that any Ohio State player would deny that Texas gave them everything they wanted. You've given short shrift to how competitive this game was.
Exactly, therefore it is a source of motivation for OSU to exploit that style of play. It’s now on film. You give Texas credit, but OSU had 2 players (Tate/Gee) in the receiving core that had career games. Has a RB gash them for a 75 yard screen pass. The game with Texas was not a clean game for the Buckeyes. People are giving credit to the Texas defense instead of focusing on OSU’s offensive penalties. I expect OSU’s offense to play cleaner. If they play clean, I doubt ND is in this game at halftime; 28-3. Final score, 49-12.
I guess I watched a different game. Texas was never out of this game until the very end. If Texas doesn't run that stupid pitch out at the end of the game and run the ball right at them, I believe Texas would've scored. Then you're looking at maybe overtime.
@tommyroberts867 They did run the ball up the middle they ran the ball on first and goal thing is sark got scared because he knew they were not as physical as Ohio states defense
Texas outplayed OSU after the 1st quarter with the exception of two plays and OSU got to hold all game long while getting away with it which was total bs
pretty generic analysis. Like you just picked up the stat sheets and came up with something without watching the game. Texas is 1 yard away from tying this game with 3 min left and if they win all you do is take this same piece and just switch names. Texas matched Ohio state physically. Game was literally decided by a couple of plays.
12 team playoff accomplished nothing. I’ve been saying it for a long time now,the best teams will always play for the national championship. Eliminate the automatic bye for conference championship winners. Eliminate all conferences also. Conference commissioner job is irrelevant. Save the money schools. Notre Dame is the blueprint!!!
@ jcas98jc No 😂 Texas luck luck luck kept them in it. Howard hurt his hand. Ridiculous ref calls (9 against Ohio State only 5 on Texas) that cost Ohio State drives and kept Texas drives alive. Ohio State was ready to bust at any moment and Texas never got anything going. Nothing explosive. Ewers 23/39.
Texas homers are comical to me. So many games this season have demonstrated Texas isn’t a good TEAM. They have all the talent but at some point you are who you are on the field. Not your star ratings. They don’t do all the things needed as a team to win. Even with luck luck luck falling their way for the last 3 weeks. And ref calls their way.
Need to clean up the penalties. They could have taken control of the game in the first half but kept shooting themselves in the foot with penalties. Hard to convert 2nd and 25.
Both semi final games were great. Texas did a great job at containing them when it looked like Ohio State was going to blow them out but they were maybe 2-4 plays away from winning the game
I was at the game..... OSU was not more physical, Texas matched every blow and was dominating on defense in the 2nd half .... i turned u off as soon as you said that at the beginning
How much time did Texas lead? That would be 0 minutes. They did tie it for less than a minute. OSU lead for 59 minutes that may be defined as dominant.

Steal points ? Texas screwed up. Who gives up a screen play against what should be a prevent defense. First and goal right near the goal. Run it straight at them but no Texas stook the stupid pill and got cute. That is a 14 point swing.
Watch that 1st and goal from the 1 yard line again. They did try to run up the middle and they lost half a yard. Sarc was just trying to get a score. You can't blame him for bouncing it outside after that L they took on first down.
Texas def got cooked in the coaching category
Yeah it was an execution problem. Ohio State was penalized for a total of 40 yards, all past midfield, which means field goals attempts or counting a drive toward the red zone. This easily could’ve been out of hand again.
Greg is an SEC guy but not a homer. I’ve always loved his ability to be unbiased. He is my favorite college football analyst.
As someone said, it’s amazing how things change when everyone gets paid, no SEC in national championship for 2 years in a row
Never been a QB at Texas that turned it over more than Ewers in the 4th quarter, all season long he managed to have multiple turnovers in the 4th.
One mattered the garbage time pick wasn't impactful at all
U don't remember VY always fumbling when he first started but hey it's just a game
Great win Buckeyes. Loved watching the game. The thing I noticed most was Howard was really late on a lot of throws. There were plays to be made and he was just not seeing it quickly enough. Some of that is the Texas defense, but I re watched a lot of the plays I thought could've been big plays. And he just didn't get it there in time. He'll see the film and improve. There were plays to be made in that game.
Yeah he clearly missed Embuka on the out route when he threw the interception trying to hit Smith
Greg is one of the best CF analysts out there
He’s had a silver spoon in his mouth his whole life. South lake to Alabama to espn. Grow up!
Lol what? What does that have anything to do with being good at analyzing, understanding, and communicating about the game... if anything, it makes him more qualified. You sound salty and/or silly@nathanbeechey980
OSU played extremely sloppy! 9 penalties for 75 yards, that can’t happen against ND!
We held Texas to their lowest scoring points all season!
And Texas made smith insignificant. If it wasn't for bad play calling on the HC, we would be having a different conversation.
@@chief-qn3xgthat’s fine, we had other players. Smith isn’t our whole offense and that’s the luxury
@@chief-qn3xglol cope harder. If you did score, who's to say Howard doesnt drive down and kill the remaining 2:20? Considering they had just gone down 88 yards in 8 minutes? Get a grip
@@chief-qn3xgifs and buts. Okay what if Smith scored 5 touchdowns what a blowout it would been.😂
@@G00dhum0rmanforeverTexas was at the 1 yard line man. Texas could’ve scored if they had better playcalling. Jeremiah smith was locked up all night no ifs ands or buts lol.
Texas played grabbed Henderson’s family jewels after the tackle.
@@tomrippey5231 - Did they really? Clemson did that to Ohio State in 2020 when they played. That's just disgusting to do.
So if tx is just above average, what does that make Ohio state? It was a very even game.
Totally agreed!
Bad coaching on Sark lost this game run the ball 4 straight times on the 1st and goal from the one yard line if u dnt get it ohio state is backed up in the end zone
Just admit that the big 10 is the sec daddy and bow down to your king!! Ohio state would go undefeated in the weak sec…
Thank you Greg. you're one of my fav analyst
SEC, SEC, SEC 😅😅😅
Love Greg as he was the only analyst who correctly predicted a close game. But to listen to this analysis it almost sounds like OSU played against itself. Where is the analysis on Texas's excellent output? This was an evenly played game decided by a few big plays. Couldn't tell from Greg's stilted analysis
Ohio state beat themselves. Texas didn’t do anything honestly
It was not even. Not even close.
@@codyl4961so you’re saying Ohio state isn’t very disciplined??
@ NIL makes player undiscliined
I must have watched a different game than McElroy. I saw two perfectly matched teams who were statistically dead even but for 1-2 plays. I didn’t see all the “physical domination”. OSU just made the plays and UT didn’t.
Another goal line stand for OSU. Physical when it mattered most, but no nowhere near domination. Slugfest both ways.
Great commentary. 👍👏
How about that McElroy!! You freakin sec homer
Bruh he picked Ohio State to win the Natty. How is that SEC homerish? ☠️
GMac is as neutral and analytical as they come.
Oregon scored going into the half and coming out of the half. How did that work out for them?
When you're down by 34 your opponent my take it's foot off the throttle for 2 seconds. Then come out of the half slow. Just a thought.
If OSU didn't commit those dumb penalties, this game would've looked like the other two playoff games they played
That is a goofy comment. There were several other no calls. Penalties are a part of the game. So you are saying, if your players were more disciplined, they would have scored more. Might be true, but they weren’t
Greg talking Big10 entertains me because he hates that division. 🤣
Quinn thought he had a advantage because he started as a buckeye
Great analysis Greg. Thanks.
Love his breakdowns, even if he’s a SEC guy. Smart dude.
Only the sec said that # 330 go bucks
Good analysis!
So Greg, can I call you Greg?, did you preseason vote OSU #1? Or did you vote GA or Bama? Just wondering.
good analysis mr. Mac
Greg, Great spot. Rhodes' Scholar material. From a Texas Offensive Ccordinators perspective, what you should they have done differently? It appeared appeared appeared to this novice, that the Texas staff doubled down on what did not work in the first half. Much Thanks.
1 injury may have helped, the center's. When he was at Bama last year, many times thd ball would roll along the ground to the QB
Yeah it’s like fake news they pick there narrative and that’s the way it was… usually Greg is one of the most objective.
@tommyroberts867 They did run the ball up the middle they ran the ball on first and goal thing is sark got scared because he knew they were not as physical as Ohio states defense
@@vadergl0ckYT I'll agree with some of that
What happened to "Tough All Day?"
A half back pass would have been better, the pitch was 10 yards behind the line of scrimmage
Why are there so any SEC homers on youtube
Got tired of seeing Michigan spank that ace. Lol
@@mikestover7240 So let's put that Michigan "education" to work: how do you spank an ace exactly?
I guess all the Homer's from the other conferences are not smart enough to do the same.
@@mikestover7240 So let's put your Michigan "education" to work. How do you spank an ace, exactly? I'll wait...
Why are so many big 10 homers on here
Physically is such a over hyped word
Texas outplayed OSU after the 1st quarter with the exception of two plays and OSU got to hold all game long while getting away with it which was total bs
1st quarter - Bucks, 2nd- Texas, 3rd - drawl & 4th quarter - Bucks
Oh you mean the targeting block? Lol
Texas Lost. THE END
pretty generic analysis. Like you just picked up the stat sheets and came up with something without watching the game. Texas is 1 yard away from tying this game with 3 min left and if they win all you do is take this same piece and just switch names. Texas matched Ohio state physically. Game was literally decided by a couple of plays.
I hope this is one of the least viewed natty game ever played.
What are you talking about?? Didn’t feel like tx could ever stop them???
12 team playoff accomplished nothing.
I’ve been saying it for a long time now,the best teams will always play for the national championship.
Eliminate the automatic bye for conference championship winners.
Eliminate all conferences also.
Conference commissioner job is irrelevant. Save the money schools.
Notre Dame is the blueprint!!!
Does Greg McElroy collect the helmets of fallen foes or is it just like an aesthetic choice?
Please God let it be the former
The seedlings doesn’t matter make the cut and compete just like any playoff, and happily if Ohio State wins I saying it the BIG 10 is a better league
There is ways of getting Smith open they just don't know how to do it
Shows the differences between a Mickey Mouse Oregon defense and a legit Texas defense.
Because they were double teaming and triple teaming him and Texas is a zone defense style team, notre dame is a man coverage defensive team
I don't give a flying f..k if he doesn't get a chance to catch the ball, tate,egbucka,trey,q,innis,Scott
When you are covered by 2-3 men, very hard to scheme a play for JS. A good OC goes to the receivers who are open. Which they did.
@ jcas98jc
No 😂
Texas luck luck luck kept them in it.
Excellent analysis.
Yes and so does his salary
Texas homers are comical to me.
So many games this season have demonstrated Texas isn’t a good TEAM. They have all the talent but at some point you are who you are on the field. Not your star ratings.
They don’t do all the things needed as a team to win. Even with luck luck luck falling their way for the last 3 weeks. And ref calls their way.
You don’t really know fb do you?
You don’t really know fb do you?
How tf doesn't Knowles win the Broyles?
Texas, like most in the playoff teams, has not been successful running up the middle. This is just not at the goal line.
Ohio State is unstoppable - no way they find a way to mess it up
They've been stopped twice this year. You should be confident but we have seen Ryan day fail every year so far
Need to clean up the penalties. They could have taken control of the game in the first half but kept shooting themselves in the foot with penalties. Hard to convert 2nd and 25.
@@2robjenkinsno duh
Unstoppable 😂😂😂 with 2 minutes left in the game Texas was 2 yards from tieing the game.
@@basscat2107 One yard, actually, and with four downs to make it. But how did that work out for them?
Both semi final games were great. Texas did a great job at containing them when it looked like Ohio State was going to blow them out but they were maybe 2-4 plays away from winning the game
More physical? but I thought the Buckeyes were soft. Who knew?
I thought this was Josh Pate
Pate is a moron. Can't listen to that idiot.
Listening to you I would have thought Texas lost by 20
Or 40
That’s what I was thinking. He wrote a narrative before the game and he’s just plugging in plays from the game.
Oh, that's right, you Play in the SEC…I get it! Go Bucks😎
With 2 loses they shouldnt even qualify for any tournament
I love your analysis. Go Bucks!
I was at the game..... OSU was not more physical, Texas matched every blow and was dominating on defense in the 2nd half .... i turned u off as soon as you said that at the beginning
And yet you replied.
How much time did Texas lead? That would be 0 minutes. They did tie it for less than a minute. OSU lead for 59 minutes that may be defined as dominant.

Texas team is SUPER young. Ohio State team is SUPER old. Texas will be fine
You have 9 months to come up with excuses for next years game. Loser
And so will ohiostate
Ohio State will be fine because elite teams like that RELOAD! There's a reason Ohio State in its entire storied history has NEVER had a long term decline. Ohio State will be really good again because they recruit well, develop well and fill in the pieces with the portal.
