I saw this too via satellite theatre live! Very privileged especially with hearing with digital aids. Truly blessed to hear those high C's. Such a thrilling moment(s)!
He is a brilliant singer, but he also carries himself with such a great energy. It’s the combination makes him so special to me. So pleeease dear MET let Javier sing more often on Met in Cinemas 🙏 Love from Germany 💜
@@filipszyga7394 Stefan Vinke who sang Siegfried in the recent MET Ring is the strongest Wagnerian tenor I've ever heard; I didn't think I would hear such a voice in my lifetime. I hope his voice lasts!
@@moniqueallan I liked him and her and the whole production so much on Saturday night that I went back on Monday night! (Got a standing place for £11, perfect view).
Javier sounded even better in the encore than he sounded earlier, and that's saying something. He knocks these gigantic notes out like it's nothing! And that salute is so cute too
Though "by audience demand" is really pushing it since the announcers were openly talking about the possibility of this encore before the curtain opened
The first mes amis warmed him up and extended his vocal chords and that is why the encore is more fluid and dynamic. I am not a music teacher but have had three years of voice lessons: note how he opens his mouth wide, lowers his jaw, watches his tongue placement and willfully produces the vibrant "eh" sound--it is something that must be practiced. Mentally, he knows he has to climb the summit and be right over that note to make the C. He knows how to fully support it with his breath and diaphragm..
@SHICOFF1 I don't know much about opera, but I do know something about love of music. Maybe part of the look on his face is the part he is singing, but he sure looks like he's in love with it all. That's half the battle, isn't it?
The next time this production comes back to the Met, we need to have him come back. He’s extraordinary. Very few singers get that kind of approval from an audience.
I was there! I was effen there! And the moment he began the aria an electric thrill went through me. I knew that I was witness to a bit of magic on stage. I hope to hear him sing this again in March as I just got tickets for his L.A. recital. I better bring tissues for the tears of joy!
The encore is even better and higher! ...wow.... I love his facial expressions too, he makes a very adorable and cute Toni he adds a different personality to the character... like childlike... like an adult full of hope.... he has personality
We are so lucky to live in these times of amazingly gifted tenors! (Despite Coranavirus keeping us away from the opera houses... I can't wait to get back to see live performances) I've seen Juan Diego Florez at the ROH and the Met and I can't wait to see Javier live!! So exciting! How lucky are we to have TWO extraordinary Tonios.. Maybe three.. Lawrence Brownlee)
In Australia the highest praise we can give for this sort of performance is - YOU LITTLE BEAUTY! Javier deserves YOU LITTLE BEAUTY! - Repeated nine times.
He had an incredible run at the Met with the Fille, Seven presentations, seven encores, in the last one I was at the Met, and in his encore he not only did 9 High Cs he did 11 High Cs, probably the best interpretation of this aria at the Met ever
Javier was so amazing and it was relaxing to hear how easy it was for him. Second act the director forced him to kneel when he should have been standing for the end of his aria. I wish directors and designers would stop interfering with singers who should be telling them how they want to portray their characters.
Montreal born Yannick Nézet-Séguin conductor (and now The Metropolitan Opera's new Artistic Director) listens to and collaborates with his singers...often deferring to their judgment...example, his collaboration with Diana Damrau's Violetta (La Traviata).
He is amazing. I love when they pair him with Pretty Yende. And the conductor Enrique Mazzola loves singers and supports the singers; some conductors at the Met make the singers an afterthought.

I remember listening to this performance and was blown away by the encore.I had only heard one other encore in my entire life and that was one month after 9/11.A performance of Nabucco.Chorus of the Hebrew slaves. When the audience demanded an encore and got it,I burst into tears.
In all my (many) opera attendances I've only seen one encore, and it was a chorus performance (Nebucco). I've never seen an individual do an encore, let alone such a difficult aria. BRAVO!
I first heard of Sr. Camarena in a Spanish-language podcast on Duolingo.com Early on, his mother urged him not to pursue musical studies; she feared he'd end up sweeping streets. He is magnificent.
I was in the audience. First time I ever saw a standing ovation for an aria at the Met. Sent chills down my spine.
I'm jealous!!!!
I saw this too via satellite theatre live! Very privileged especially with hearing with digital aids. Truly blessed to hear those high C's. Such a thrilling moment(s)!
I was in the audience as well for only my 3rd opera. This performance not only converted me to a guild member, it changed my life
Thanks Duolingo for bringing me here. Such an outstanding tenor!
My most beautiful memory at the opera, i was there with my mom and I will remember that moment forever. Thank you Signor Camarena.
I was there that night, I don't think the crowd would have let the performance move on without the encore. Camarena is pure bliss.
He is a brilliant singer, but he also carries himself with such a great energy. It’s the combination makes him so special to me. So pleeease dear MET let Javier sing more often on Met in Cinemas 🙏
Love from Germany 💜
AT LAST! Have we just witnessed a throwback to the last golden era of Tenors? Please bring him back to the Met! More please!
I saw this at the Met a few weeks ago... I got goosebumps. I am looking forward to seeing him in other productions in the future.
That is really a trowback but just as far as lyric and leggero tenors are concerned. I look forward for dramatic tenors trowback.
What is golden era of tenors?
Monnarch Monnarchy it’s like an era or gold but with tenors 😂

Just saw Javier on stage here, the same encore at the Royal Opera House, absolutely flawless performance, we could not stop applauding, bravo!!!
We also went to this show :) It was great, wasn't it? :)

The problem for contemporary opera singers it's so easy for anyone compare on YT and see the oldies runs over modern singers like this Javier.

Oh how Donizetti would pride and smile at this. The sublime realisation of one of his finest creations.
