No two binoculars are the same in terms of what you see through them. Some are made better and offer better viewing experiences than other models. The Nikon Monarch 5, 7, and HG models offered by REI are examples of quality binoculars that offer better viewing experience not only for their construction but also Nikon’s proprietary lens coating used to fully multicoat the optics. Sure it costs more, but that’s exactly what you’re paying for: more enjoyment and use out of them. Would you rather buy a cheap pair of binoculars to use only once and then never use again because of how low quality they were or invest in a good pair that works so well that you end up using them more often than you intend?
I recommend getting the 8x magnification as it is the perfect balance of viewing subjects from afar, having a good-size field of view for tracking, and will look more stable in your hands.
