    I've never met John (Yet) but out of all the musicians I really like, John I'd like to chill with and kick back and just socialize with him. He's got a grin on reality better than so many people out there. He kicks ass . God bless you John and your family.

    I knew him as 'Johnny Cougar' 'John Cougar Mellencamp' and 'John Mellencamp' --- The man is a legendary poet. He puts his poems to music. My creative writing teacher had us study his early work. Anybody know what poetry is? Let's start with this definition: "writing that formulates a concentrated imaginative awareness of experience in language chosen and arranged to create a specific emotional response through meaning, sound, and rhythm." (MW Online Dictionary) OKAY? For example: Perhaps I will sing "My face is a pizza". It, of course, is not a pizza. It may LOOK like one or smell like one but obviously my face is not a pizza! See? Poetry! Not understanding that is what happens when they take humanities out of the schools. Or when SOME students don't pay enough attention to the important subjects and get to be a big time talk show host and can't see past their own identity. But I digress...

    Come come now John,, I love the music and the message,, but we in this country are nearly all of mixed blood and the idea of equality still escapes us. RACISM will end when words become just words, people become just people, and power and respect is earned,, when all realize, skin is just what it is,,, wrapping paper for what's inside and truly NOT WHATS IMPORTANT!! LIFE MATTERS!! THE SOUL OF THE MAN MATTERS!! PEACE!!

    • @lilymack4028
      @lilymack4028 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Ken, you seem to be missing the point of (his) music. Writing & singing and purchasing art about the injustices of racism IS part of the battle against it. Art elicits emotion & challenges ideas. LIKE THIS SONG. What exactly are you criticising?

    • @lonerider3536
      @lonerider3536 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Carolyn Mackey-Coots ,, If you want a message or idea good or bad, to last and grow,, keep bringing it up. as long as a BIG deal is made of such things,, IT REMAINS A BIG DEAL!! that's my point not criticisms just reality. I'm ill with this constant in your face, continued BLACK LIVES MATTER! White Supremacist BS! How about grow the Hell up and and stop celebrating and Waring about skin tone!! STOP THIS INSANITY AND STOP KILLING EACH OTHER BECAUSE OF LOOKS!! And SHUT THE HELL UP AND LET THIS ERA OF FOOLISHNESS FADE INTO OBLIVION!! IM CHEROKEE, sub saharan, English and Irish. Make me parts of many tribes that are all members of ONE RACE!! HUMAN!! peace!

    • @brainsareus
      @brainsareus 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      not sure what your point is. it sounds like you blame the wrong people. If it could/should "just" happen, then why has it not happened already? "power and respect", sounds like fear and loathing. respect; is much more about the fear, that the mafia or police demand. we need to get beyond that.

    • @motorcityman401

      I think his point is if you keep making Race an issue it will always be an issue.....as Morgan Freeman said "stop talking about it"
      I judge people by their Character not their color!!
      ALL lives matter!!

    If I said to my friends and workmates in England - John Mellencamp or even Cougar they'd look at me confused. they'd know Jack and Diane though. same with the Tragically Hip, nobody in England knows who they are but in their country they're an institution. ps I only know because I grew up in Canada, I saw John at the Saddledome in Calgary in the mid 80s.

    Was looking forward to seeing him. Love his music, style, and words. However, he refuses to sing Hurt So Good in concert. Says he's tired of it. He also won't play Aint Even Done With The Night and This Time. Hurt So Good is like a soundtrack to many of our lives. We made him a star-bought his tickets, albums, posters...etc. and he won't give that one song to his fans. Pretty shitty.

    • @JMLive2010
      @JMLive2010  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      He's said he doesn't play "Hurts So Good" because it's a bit too juvenile for a 66-year-old man to sing. Totally understandable. He has so many great songs, not many are worried if that overplayed song gets put on the shelf. For the record, he did play it at the unannounced show he did at the Rock Hall of Fame on September 2, 2017.

    • @dannyd1572
      @dannyd1572 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Juvenille? it starts out "when I was a young boy". Like he is reflecting back. It was the song that first hit MTV and pretty much what made him. Had to be one of the top vids played. Maybe he is unable to hit some of the notes. What a great song to have the audience sing with you though. I think just about EVERYONE, from my generation, knows that song. If I went to see him and he didn't play it I think I would walk out of the concert scratching my head...lol Love JCM, but dissapointed he won't do that in shows.

      Dannyd1572 : Consider this - The man has several hundreds of songs that are special to at least one fan. If he satisfied every one of these people he'd be still be playing the next evening. Stop being selfish because he doesn't play them all and buy his albums
