Ive had 4 or 5 games the past 3 days where i had a game and received a GG in the first 2 rounds. Definitely weird but it keeps me playing. Thanks for your hard work!
Like donut said in the video I think it honestly just has to do with the fact that you were near one of those 23 minute time periods near the end of the last game and the time period ended when you were on round two in that next game.
Good way to test the time based hypothesis is to stay on round 1 for 25-30 mins, then stay on round 2 for 25-30 mins. If the theory is correct you should get 1 gobble per round. Then do round 3. Then repeat the process by adding kills, buys, xp to narrow down the equivalence of what does or doesnt contribute to the gobblegum timer. my best guess is that the chance of getting one goes up over time/round, and goes back to base % when you get one, could explain the varience in the graphs
@@foliwag9590 I completely agree with this. Perhaps every round gives you an extra day 5% chance to get a gum, it would make sense why you sometimes get gums on b2b rounds, but very rarely. Although it could also be the case that it gives an exponential increase in rates, where the longer you go without a gum, the higher the % increase per round or per minute, or per XP or whatever it is

This actually makes so much sense, this would also help explain why there's a pause timer, they don't want you pausing in game and going afk to earn gobblegum
I was looking around for who had the answers to gobble gums and stumbled on your video. Man I was so impressed with the hours of work you put in to this issue, I immediately subscribed. Well Done sir...well done!
A theory needs to be checked that Gums have a loot pool, and your rank determines what is in that pool. I prestiged twice and spent most zombie time in the lower levels, I have tons of blue and purples but very few legendary and ultras.
I haven't done anywhere close to the same level of rigorous testing as Doughnuts, but I have been playing a whole lot of zombies, and am just about to finish prestige 3, and I don't see evidence of this personally.
Thank you! I said from launch it was time based, and friends kept telling me I was wrong. I totally agree and I came to the same conclusion that you’re required to get a certain amount of xp and 20min or so timer for the drop to happen. Me and a friend went a step further and got zero xp for 25mins in the same round. Then after we flipped the round we got zero gums then at the end of the nest two rounds we got a gum each time. One after the other. We have a similar sort of graph etc.

You have 100% hit the nail on the head, best way for you to test it would probably to do like 10 games where you speed through every round no hanging about on anything and you'd see the time was pretty much exactly the same between them but I don't think you need to do that I think you've nailed it
Best video made about this subject to date, hate that a lot of youtubers posted the "how to get gobble gums fast" with literally no data to support their theories during double gobble gum.
I think weapon kills has something to do with it. When I was doing the oil trap for crit kills, I was hardly shooting or swinging my sword. Basically all my kills were from the Molotov oil trap. And in about 50 minutes, I only got 2 instances with 1 gum each. This is with double gobble gum.
I must preface this by saying that I appreciate all the work you've put into your video! It was a pleasant watch, I really enjoyed it all the way to the end. However, there is one thing I wanted to add to your hypothesis about inconsistent timings of gobblegum drops. I think it might not have anything to do with the game checking if you have fulfilled the requirement of those 20 minutes, it might have something to do with inconsistent rewards being more stimulating to humans. A study has been done in the past on gamblers, and the results were something along the lines of "giving rewards at a fixed interval feels less rewarding than giving rewards at a random interval". In other words, when you give people rewards in an irregular, or random, pattern they have a bigger reaction to said reward and thus play for longer. Anyways, maybe that isn't even the reason the gobbles are inconsistent, but just something I wanted to share :)
Before I started this video I really just thought you we’re wasting all of your time trying to figure this out because I thought it was 100% completely random but this makes perfect sense it just like the supply drops from AW I truly believe you have figured this out Doughnuts you are a legend

@@olinsmith3638 the big TH-camrs don’t actually care if their information is correct, they just want to get the videos out as soon as they can to get the most views
You did really great job and all though you might found the answer, i still think there might be other factors that you didn’t test out, one of the things I noticed while playing is that everytime i buy a door or a perk, the round after that i get a gobblegum while after getting the map all set and done and stop buying stuff and stick with killing zombies, i stop getting anything even though i progress slowly through them and let time pass because of how slow some rounds go, but that might be just as lucky as a coin toss guess but who knows
I think these could be hidden xp numbers that still count towards gums but not count towards your character xp. Meaning the doors perks pap buys get you some amount of hidden xp that’s counting towards gums
We’re currently trying to test if bossfight and or successful exfil count towards the early gums in the next game but that’s proving difficult to track and figure out
@@drrickoftenzombies8959i think it might be some hidden xp bar that resets after every gum reward with 20 minute cool down, it’s hard to exploit but it would be awesome to know at least

@@pesto2155 This video is supposed to be an scientific breakdown on his hypothesis of how the gobblegum system works. This isn't just for casuals, it's for other content creators and those who want to maximise their gobblegums. He did mention that you can skip, if you don't wanna listen to his breakdown.
I have seen a lot of people get confused on how when they have a zombie saved they die out fast so gobbles being time based could explain why the zombies die out so fast, they don't want you spending to much time in one round so you cant get too many gobble gums
I’m currently on a run to try to get to 200 and Im at 190. And the one thing I’ve learned is I definitely haven’t noticed any difference in gg rarity. I wasn’t sure if it was just in my head or whether I just lost track, but this confirmed what i figured
Unfortunately this is anecdotal, according to data miners there is a back ground point system linked to your account, you can gain points by buying doors killing zombies and collecting perks. For instance if a perka is 50 points if you manage to get 50 points there’s also the chance you get 3 killjoys (15 points each) and a temploral gift (5 points each)
So I believe that gobble gums are time-based and XP-based. Notice how higher rounds, you gain less gobble gums and near the beginning its also low income. Yet around the rounds 15-25 you gain the most. XP gain goes down the more you progress in rounds, but around those rounds you are fully prep for the zombies pack, perks, and rarity. You are getting kills very easily and quickly.
I tried to understand it like a month ago and couldn’t figure it out but came to the conclusion it had to do something with time but this made it so much simpler for me. Thanks for the graphs lol
It carried over tho. Of you played till like round 30 but only got 1 then your next game you might get like 2-3 very early on. Dunno. They've bot explained much other than it's very random
I went through a whole prestige without really even using gobble gums. Didn’t know what they really did and the pack I had equipped was all rare so a lot of times they made a minimal difference anyway. I recently discovered how to edit the pack and yeah it’s nice having these shortcuts to high power weapons and perks but honestly to make it to level 31-36 about an hour to hour and half of playing you don’t really need them. It’s a game and im glad this graph proves the algorithm is more rewarding for that range, than the high levels.
If the gubblegum are time based why don't you try Just to stay alive on round One without killing zombies, that Will tell for sure if Is purely time based or you Need to do something else tò get them
I didn't keep exact track but on games that were round 150+ I received an average of 1-3 red 3-7 orange and many of the purple/blue gums. XP/gum farming while afk for the majority but I recorded totals before and after games. I honestly think high round has absolutely nothing to do with gum rarity because it seemed genuinely random. Like one of the matches, I was getting setup and got PKH on single digit rest were sporadic. One thing I did see a pattern with was the amount of gobble gum received per drop increasing past ~1hr playtime on the same map. Then again that could be lack of data (nor did I put an insane amount of effort like you) as I only ran 14 games that were 150+. The only thing I can guarantee is that level means absolutely nothing, from fresh account to max prestige the gums I got stayed consistently random. Anyway, great video respect to the amount of effort you put into this it really shows I don't really watch zombies YT's, but this was really cool.
Love the theory, I think it is the most theory out there that makes sense specially since BO4 was also time based, but what if this system is a combination of both previous gobblegum systems, so time based is from BO4, but you also have the BO3 system where you would earn divinium from doing things in game , and I don't mean challenges and easter eggs (mainly buying doors as getting shopping free on ZNS and alt+F4 was one of the farming methods in BO3). One common thing is that rounds 9-21 are where most gobblegums are earned, during these rounds you open up the map, you buy weapons, pap, ammo, shield, perks, upgrade the rarity. If we assume that Treyarch are making sure that casual players are not limited then we can't connect the gobblegum system to any easter eggs or challenges that a casual MP player wouldn't do, where most casual MP and WZ players would just go into the map get a gun, upgrade it, get perks and kill. Just a theory though, love the video.
Honestly by the unlock hinging on the end of the round is genius we are more inconsistent, making it feel more random and exciting And thank you so much for making all these functions of these games make so much more sense
One hell of a video! i can only imagine how much work went into this one.. I made a copy of your spreadsheet, I'll be trying my best to keep a record and send it to you within a week or so. Appreciate all the hard work that goes into creating these stats!
Makes more sense that its time based and why they have a pause timer now. Its not because its "always online so we dont want server space to be taken" its because if they didnt have the timer we would exploit the hell out of that and they couldnt sell us gums in the shop. Makes so much sense now 🤯
To test your theory could you just do the really fast rounds (say 1-10) If you are keeping round times as short as possible I think you could more accurately determine if it is a time based system. (And therefore the time as well because the rounds are not long enough to give massive outliers)
I have 2 sort of observations/questions about this. 1. I’m no dev, and I’m only 15 min in, but it seems like they are using a sort of equation with randomization variable that is reliant on both time and XP (as a check/balance) but also has overall limiters to keep the randomness from punishing some. So, the devs decide they want you to earn a gum every 20 min, but rather than just putting that blanket equation in of (when playtime = 20/40/60. . . Min, add gum + 1-3), they want it to be a little more mysterious. So, they add a randomized variable that pulls a factor of anywhere from 5-25 minutes from the last gum(s) earned. But, they also put in a check that looks over the last x gums and shaves off or adds to that equation for their last few gums to ensure it evens out over time. So, you may get one at 2/7/14 min, but that would mean your next 3 would be more like 30/50/80 minutes. 2. My BIG question is how they handle this secret formula moving forward. Sure, they can absolutely tweak it, it’s their game, but I’m always worried about anything monetized. I’d be curious to see this same experiment done next year to see if they’ve tweaked it, and/or to see half a dozen different accounts (with varying levels of engagement with the store) do this same experiment to see if the results are any different.
I think instead of using a 24-hour time based test, I think you should have a hard cap round test. Set it to round 50, and make every effort to get to round 50, and log your findings through that, using different parameters., like so: 1. Strictly headshots. 2. Strictly body shots. 3. Strictly rapid kills. 4. strictly knife kills. 5. No PaP vs Immediate Pap (Use Wall Power for this.) 6. No perks. 7. All perks. 8. Test gobbles earned with each gun rarity. 9. Earn as many medals as you can each round. 10. Solo games vs. Varying amounts of party members. You can also use these parameters based on how MANY gums you earn mirroring the things you do as well. Though at the same time, we can speculate that it could have a simple mechanism for choosing what gums it gives you, such as: start at the first gum and assign them 1-however many gums there are. "Pick a number 1-3, then pick a number 1-however many gums, and give to player." I personally think Milo kinda had it mostly right, with common and rare gums for each category, rolling the dice for each one. I think MUCH more testing needs to be done before we truly understand how this mechanic works and I am VERY interested to see how the community figures it out.
Bro yesterday i was playing on rd 7, round flips it gives me 3 gums so im already happy and then it gives me a imolation, a perkaholic, and a near death experience
I saw a few of your shorts and thought they were cool. But then I saw this and im like this dude is a zombies addict lol. Got me to subscribe lol thanks for the 24 hrs of suffering for our knowledge of how gobblegums work
Game time was actually what I’ve been thinking was the main tick for the gobblegum. BUT one thing you could try to make this clearer, is to save and quit between a solo game. If game time of total gameplay is being seen, this should show a consistent gain in gobblegums as well. (For instance, you could try to go In game for 12.5mins, then save quit multiple times)
Thanks for putting this out! Now, this is compelling evidence. Maybe not absolutely conclusive, but it's a huge relief to hear that it's likely not that you have to go to high rounds to get ultra's, because I typically die fairly early in the thirties, every time I try. Even when I try to use the strats that you posted for going into high rounds.
I knew something weird and more that meets the eye was up when I noticed me and my duo seemed to get awarded gobble gums at the same exact time very often
I have about a little more then 3 days on zombies, and there are some rares and such where I just only have only 2 of and some I have 20, and I dont usually use gobblegums. Same goes with Epics and Legendary. It just seems very random! I will agree with the statements you said, its time based because like what you said, it just makes sense. Especially when you keep in mind the 2x gums and how they would award you 2x gums. It must be time based. Also with the talk about buyable gum packs coming in the future, if it was skill based or round based it would reduce their sales as people would just farm instead of buying. So making it time base would promote sales as people value time over anything! But you never know we could all be wrong.
I've seen a trend in my games where I get gobblegums more often when I'm doing easter eggs and S.A.M. trials then just passing rounds if that helps at all in figuring out how gobbles get awarded.
Save and quitting resets the chances of getting good gobblegums, it also resets the wall buys, and you have to start increasing the chances from scratch, both for the wallbuys and gobblegums.

my best guess is that the chance of getting one goes up over time/round, and goes back to base % when you get one, could explain the varience in the graphs

I love that there’s chapters in the video and a recap at the end. It really ties everything together as some people might not really care for the details and want to get straight to the point. Love this video and channel.
I think a lot of people made videos quickly to get views about “how to wake gobblegum” and didn’t use any data. Really appreciate you took the time to make a good data to spread good information!
This actually makes so much sense, this would also help explain why there's a pause timer, they don't want you pausing in game and going afk to earn gobblegum
Drink game idea: take a drink every time he says gobble-gum and have a friend record your time-of-death 😂
that great idea 😂
I was looking around for who had the answers to gobble gums and stumbled on your video. Man I was so impressed with the hours of work you put in to this issue, I immediately subscribed. Well Done sir...well done!
He missed something tho, they def do come from “doing stuff”. I’ve gotten them exactly after buying a door for example, Sam trials, etc.
A theory needs to be checked that Gums have a loot pool, and your rank determines what is in that pool. I prestiged twice and spent most zombie time in the lower levels, I have tons of blue and purples but very few legendary and ultras.
This data set was made when I was about prestige 2, level 30 all the way to prestige 3 level 40.
Master prestige here, I can believe that bc all I get is blues and purples.
I haven't done anywhere close to the same level of rigorous testing as Doughnuts, but I have been playing a whole lot of zombies, and am just about to finish prestige 3, and I don't see evidence of this personally.
I had a fresh P4 Near Death drop on Round 2 for me, so idk
I barely got any ultras at prestige 0 level 55
Thank you! I said from launch it was time based, and friends kept telling me I was wrong. If you really pay attention you can predict when they’re coming based on time, and nothing else felt correlated. Glad someone came up with a way to parse the data. I feel vindicated and I appreciate your work on this.
Just have to say you give me hope, idk how long you have been doing this but I haven't seen this in depth research since PlayaTheGame back in B01 days and I'm happy I found you man. Keep up the great work
I feel like they should do community challenges weekly where if you participate in them you get a pack of gobblegums, it would make people engaged and motivate those to play in a variety of ways. Just a thought I wanted to share.
“If that chart was a little confusing for you, here’s a graph”
Honestly its an epic video, thank you for doing all the analysis brother!

You have 100% hit the nail on the head, best way for you to test it would probably to do like 10 games where you speed through every round no hanging about on anything and you'd see the time was pretty much exactly the same between them but I don't think you need to do that I think you've nailed it
Here is our doughnut spreading his sheets all over the place and we love him for it
Best video made about this subject to date, hate that a lot of youtubers posted the "how to get gobble gums fast" with literally no data to support their theories during double gobble gum.
Can we all just appreciate how much effort you’re putting in to all of this!!!

The fact that someone would go through this much effort for the community is ridiculous. Respect

I have seen a lot of people get confused on how when they have a zombie saved they die out fast so gobbles being time based could explain why the zombies die out so fast, they don't want you spending to much time in one round so you cant get too many gobble gums
No, in every treyarch zombies, if the zombie has lost health, or not interacted with the player it will simply die to progress the game
3 mins in doughnuts has said gobblegum more then I have earned said goobblegums 😂😂 thanks as always for the information doughnuts!
i have not used a single one of my gobblegums yet, i currently have 256 Rares, 157 Epics, 98 Legendarys and 27 Ultras
For instance if a perka is 50 points if you manage to get 50 points there’s also the chance you get 3 killjoys (15 points each) and a temploral gift (5 points each)
Is that so? Does there happen to be a source for this?
@ at the moment no but I saw it on the cod zombies Reddit 2-3 days after the game released
0:48 ultra ware gobble gum?💀💀💀
You’re so funny
I tried to understand it like a month ago and couldn’t figure it out but came to the conclusion it had to do something with time but this made it so much simpler for me. Thanks for the graphs lol
I'm fairly certain that gobblebums are just as random as possible because I've managed to get three of them in terminus at round one.
@@aaronwoodall5632 I got an ultra, a rare, and a legendary in round 4
It carried over tho. Of you played till like round 30 but only got 1 then your next game you might get like 2-3 very early on. Dunno. They've bot explained much other than it's very random
I went through a whole prestige without really even using gobble gums. Didn’t know what they really did and the pack I had equipped was all rare so a lot of times they made a minimal difference anyway. I recently discovered how to edit the pack and yeah it’s nice having these shortcuts to high power weapons and perks but honestly to make it to level 31-36 about an hour to hour and half of playing you don’t really need them. It’s a game and im glad this graph proves the algorithm is more rewarding for that range, than the high levels.
absolute peak zombies content
Quick reminder as well you get some gobblegums from leveling up in the prestige track and they also show the little spin animation.

It’s so strange that the classic’s didn't return, especially since it was always one of the best things going for the gobblegum system.
Honestly by the unlock hinging on the end of the round is genius we are more inconsistent, making it feel more random and exciting
And thank you so much for making all these functions of these games make so much more sense
Love this! Your spreadsheets just got you a subscription!
One hell of a video! i can only imagine how much work went into this one.. I made a copy of your spreadsheet, I'll be trying my best to keep a record and send it to you within a week or so. Appreciate all the hard work that goes into creating these stats!
Honestly just because of the amount of work you’re willing to put in for something so simple just made me want to subscribe
Makes more sense that its time based and why they have a pause timer now. Its not because its "always online so we dont want server space to be taken" its because if they didnt have the timer we would exploit the hell out of that and they couldnt sell us gums in the shop. Makes so much sense now 🤯
To test your theory could you just do the really fast rounds (say 1-10)
If you are keeping round times as short as possible I think you could more accurately determine if it is a time based system. (And therefore the time as well because the rounds are not long enough to give massive outliers)
This level reasarch is so appreciated.
This was an absolute BANGER of a video!! Thank you for your hard work🙏🏼🔥
I have 2 sort of observations/questions about this.
MAJOR W! This is what I love to see!
Your research is absolutely helpful. I might put this to the test!
Please do! That would be awesome!
oh shit when someone brings maths and spreadsheets into Call Of Duty you know someone is locked in
Why can’t they just tell us how to earn them the best way? Instead we relying on you to carry the lot of us. Doing gods work man.
I think instead of using a 24-hour time based test, I think you should have a hard cap round test. Set it to round 50, and make every effort to get to round 50, and log your findings through that, using different parameters., like so:
1. Strictly headshots.
2. Strictly body shots.
3. Strictly rapid kills.
4. strictly knife kills.
5. No PaP vs Immediate Pap (Use Wall Power for this.)
6. No perks.
7. All perks.
8. Test gobbles earned with each gun rarity.
9. Earn as many medals as you can each round.
10. Solo games vs. Varying amounts of party members.
You can also use these parameters based on how MANY gums you earn mirroring the things you do as well.
Though at the same time, we can speculate that it could have a simple mechanism for choosing what gums it gives you, such as:
start at the first gum and assign them 1-however many gums there are.
"Pick a number 1-3, then pick a number 1-however many gums, and give to player."
I personally think Milo kinda had it mostly right, with common and rare gums for each category, rolling the dice for each one.
Got me to subscribe lol thanks for the 24 hrs of suffering for our knowledge of how gobblegums work
You know it's about to get serious when the dude rolls out a spreadsheet! Haha, great info mate, much appreciated!
2 min into this video and as someone who works with data for a living I applaud you for this.
Thank you! That means a LOT!
This video has motivated me to continue on your study, im gonna borrow your spreadsheets and fill them out myself over the following weeks
But you never know we could all be wrong.
doughnuts your so correct about the ~20 min mark. Im in director mode camo grinding and every 20 or so minutes im getting a gobblegum
This seems to be the case as if you keep redoing guided mode zombies round you still gain gobblegums after certain time intervals
I've seen a trend in my games where I get gobblegums more often when I'm doing easter eggs and S.A.M. trials then just passing rounds if that helps at all in figuring out how gobbles get awarded.
Take a shot everytime he says gobble gum
Save and quitting resets the chances of getting good gobblegums, it also resets the wall buys, and you have to start increasing the chances from scratch, both for the wallbuys and gobblegums.
