This was the last year direct trains ran from Birmingham to the coast as reliefs, always using freight locos. I scored 3 winner 47s this day for haulage!
Drat, and double drat ! 47 295 was one of the 47s that I missed for haulage ! I have had 458 out of 512 Class 47s locos for haulage; so, I suppose, I should not complain. It was just that during four summers, of the 80 summer Sats that the Yarmouth 47s ran, I did 72 weekends !! Each year, I 'allowed myself' two weekends off to bash 26s in Scotland or 47s to Holyhead. So this must have done one of the 8 weekends that I missed. On the plus side, I have cabridden 86 230 and DBSO 9712 featured here !
I was lucky to catch two rare (i was told) 47s this weekend, 278 was the other freight loco working on the Midlands to Yarmouth runs. I started haulage quite late so only got around 150 ish for haulage plus a few more at worked when driving them. That's quite an impressive number to have for haulage although i know a couple of enthusiast's who have had 508 & 509 for haulage including one that was scrapped very early on but he was chasing steam mainly back then. Funny to think they replaced steam but you can still ride behind the odd one on the main line on occasions.....
@@SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus Cheers for your kind reply. I could have got more than 458 x 47s, but I spent my early years chasing 45s. 26s, 27s, and 33s also tempted me out. But no one ever gets everything. I knew a Class 20 chap who had 225 out of 228 Class 20s for haulage. I never bothered with them, and only had 22 examples. But I managed to get one of the 3 locos he missed. I knew another chap who got all 50 x Class 50s, including 9 out of the 10 Portuguese examples (including 1809 which was withdrawn in 1984). However, his missing Portuguese example (1808), was the only one I got. It just seems odd, how luck happens. When Britain turned all 'karts', I went abroad to get my kicks. First to Ireland, then France and Belgium. I have cleared all the track in Norway (except Narvik), Portugal (except Guimares), Canada (except Churchill) and Alaska. Nowadays, I would highly recommend the truly spectacular PTG Tours to Hungary. Sounds like your 47 mate, is older than me....
@@vicsams4431 He is very desperate, has had most trains for haulage (even down to cars in each unit), he got his drivers job at Acton alongside me. He had had most locos in the UK and a fair bit of foreign ones as well. I recall the Portugese 20 & 50s he said he'd done. He still drives for DB in Yorkshire.
I'm in this one! 11/9/93. 47295 was 1L98 and 1M93, just a Norwich to Yarmouth and back. 47278 was 1L99 from BNS and 1M85 to Nottingham 47583 did the Norwich -Yarmouth drags
I don't remember 583 being there, it may well have been but as it was dud for haulage i would have avoided it & gone for my 3 winners (278/295/642)....47 642 did the Inter-Ciry drags, i filmed it & rode on one of them. I seem to recall both the RfD 47s did workings to & from the Midlands, i let 295 go as i scored it Nor-Yar & return. In this upload it is going back to Yarmouth but then went to the Midlands via Norwich. I then had my rounder with 642 and then had 47 278 to Peterborough. All in all, a good day out!
I'm not 100% sure now but that sounds about right. 47 278 was also there this day, i took that back from Norwich to Peterborough, after first having a Res 47 hauling a dead 86 and DBSO set to Yarmouth! A good day out, and more will be uploaded in the future.....
Did anyone else spot the 'name' Black Prince on the side of 47 295? Black Prince were a well known independent bus company based in Morley,West Yorkshire and ceased operating in 2005. A number of their buses are preserved. Anyone know anything about this loco??
This is an amazing video my friend!!! Like 48 👍 !!! Keep up the great job 👌!!! Greetings!!! 👋👋😁👍🙏
Thank you....plenty more to come, both new & old!
As an ex Yarmouth boy great to see shots of Yarmouth Vauxhall and Norwich Thorpe .😎
I have others upload from there. Check out my Anglia playlist here th-cam.com/play/PLRjJ3alLpN5xdKy4WYdC3IUj-kA57fBNB.html
Another absolute gold mine here Soi! Always look forward to your eastern stuff, great to see some variety over the wherry lines :-)

@@SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus It keeps us all off the streets..... That will be Doncaster, then.
I notice a Res 47 snuck in at the end on what must have been a Gt Yarmouth - Liverpool St through working
Yes, on a Summer Saturday a couple of Inter-City sets worked through to Great Yarmouth with Res class 47s.
Great to watch 😊👍
Interesting to see 86249 propelling a train in from Liverpool Street; I thought this was actually allocated to the WCML on parcels services!
When the Anglia lines were short of locos they would borrow one or two from Willesden which is why 249 was there.
Is that the Royal Mail Class 302 hiding away in the background there?
Yes, they used to run at night to Norwich. At weekends one would stable there until Sunday or Monday night.

7 min 46. I remember the circuit breaker going too on 86249. Only came across that one other time. A bit odd.

Sorry, yes 624 that week. 583 drags was the week after.
Hi Soi, where might the first train in Great Yarmouth have originated from? Birmingham New Street?

That was also the name given to an ASLEF General Secretary as well! Which is more plauseable reason the name was on the loco.....
Wonder why lol.
