Rebecca Lauren - that's one of the things I loved about the place. Hot summer afternoons in the 90s, the sort you just don't seem to get anymore. Exploring back streets high above the seafront and tourist zone, with those huge, magnificent shady trees. The high, red sandstone walls, as you say draped in vines, and between ornate gateposts the occasional glimpse of a huge Victorian white villa or Gothic mansion. It didn't feel like the UK, but as though you were on holiday somewhere on the Continent. I've not been back in 20 years... I hear it's been utterly ruined now. Such a pity 😢
Not the most scenic route around Torquay but it went past my high school - Homelands, and the hallowed ground of Plainmoor. This is my home town 54 - 72 so thank you.
its amazing to see people walking about in town still in POLO t shirts , bermudas and ladies in single layered clothings, what month was this weather, it looks comfortable for a lot of young people on the streets , they are wearing a lot of knee baring clothings like late summer ?
Gosh, this takes me back. I used to holiday here 45 years ago as a child. I am coming back in a few weeks and can't wait. Beautiful place. I remember a caravan park called 'sunrock' and visiting an igloo ice-cream shop which was out of this world.
At 4.37, you pass the Rose of Babbacombe pub which has sadly closed since. What a cool pub that was in its day! Had a right laugh in there playing for the pool team!
Thank you for all your comments and to everyone who commented. MeadowGhostTV That is blockbuster video and glad enjoyed video. It was filmed when it was open and remember renting video games and movies from there
Martyn D Lived in Babbacombe for my first 20 years but could not recognize anywhere until you passed Torquay United Ground and my old school which was then Homelands Tech High now Westlands then passed Ellacombe primary and then down to town center. Before that I was lost ! But thinking about it I believe you came up Babbacombe road. A commentary would have been nice. Anyway I really enjoyed the video, CHEERS
Nice to see a different view rather than the seafront. Did not realise how much I miss Torbay - I lived in Paignton on the Totnes Road, and was resident coach driver at Livermead House hotel in Torquay for a year and a half, then drove for the rather shabby Sherwood hotel for a few years and also drove the "road train" around Torquay town and seafront. Great memories seeing all the back streets, really enjoyed this video. I now live up a mountain in west of Ireland, it's great here but rains so much, but yes, I do miss Torbay.
Was here three mos ago on Newton Rd for 10 days visiting my Aunt she's been living there for 50 yrs. did enjoy the scenery..Torbay shores...beautiful...
I like your hometown very much. I visited Torquay in the Mid90s staying at the Forest Hotel with my parents. The hotel doesn't exist anymore. I travelled to several places in England, but Torquay is still one of my favouites. I also remember that there was a "church" where I did some fitness workouts. :) Cheers from Cologne.
Wow, I've just returned from there and recognised the Middle Warberry Road. My good friend is in a nursing home up there and you actually drove past the discrete entrance. Such a beautiful part of the country.
Looks like a beautiful place. Love to come for a visit someday. My shithole of a town is Boise, Idaho. My hometown is Hot Springs National Park, Arkansas, hopefully will return their one day.
If staying in Torquay it is worth making a day trip to Plympton St Maurice. This ancient town was the original port of Plymouth but silted up. Worth visiting the castle, old Guildhall & grammer school etc. The castle meadow is a great place for a picnic & there are 3 pubs. A really interesting historical place without the overcrowding & high prices of Totnes, which has been over promoted to the point that the traffic & queues are definitely off-putting unless you visit in the dead of winter.
wow thank you,I wish you had been driving a bit more up in the hillside and also down in the center! I was there in the middle of the 80s,it was like beeing taking back in time!
Hey homeboy - I stayed in a very old hotel (more like a big old house) called Wellswood Hall in Torquay in 1967. I was 17 and my folks were visiting people in some tall 60s flats (7 storeys) nearby. There wasn't enough space for me there so they booked me into the old hotel. Do you know the place?
How can people say Torbay(Torquay,Paignton, brixham) is a shithole??? I just don't get it. I've lived here ALL my life and wouldn't want to live ANYWHERE else.i did live in Durham for couple years (and that's a beautiful place) but had to come 'home'. I think if people have had bad EXPERIENCES then they say it's a shithole but I feel that's unfair.bad stuff happens everywhere. We have countryside, woods, the Moors AND seaside, beaches. We have all that and you don't need money to walk the seafront, walk in the country,go for a bike ride. Bottom line,in case you haven't worked it out.....I love Torbay.😍😎
Im from Scandinavia and I love England, with all of its different towns and cities. The only sad thing is that London is not London anymore, you hardly meet any British people on the streets anymore...But Torquay was wonderful, and Brixham!
Thankyou Homeboy... brought back years of memories for me. I admit to being lost as you set out, but oriented myself at Babbacombe Road. Sure, some has changed - just the odd building - but it took me back to school-days at `Homelands` 55 years ago, and skiving off down through Ellacombe. But I`d not recognize downtown now, I guess. If I had a quibble, it would be that you might have announced the roads. Good going...
Yes it is. Christie's house, Greenways, is open to the public and a great place to visit. If you so choose, you can get there by steam train and alight at the Greenways Halt.
Thank you all for the comments on these videos. Upload more videos in future. New driving video along the seafront Torquay and Meadfoot beach. th-cam.com/video/0525xX9ouLc/w-d-xo.html
This just goes to show that something so simple and with rain can still amass a huge amount of views. I love Torquay and wish i lived there. Does anyone in Torquay wanna adopt a 48 year old orphan?
Right at the end on the corner there used to be a pub named The Grafton Arms, there used to be a girl who lived a couple of doors up named LW boy did I have the hots for her, but I was only thirteen and she was fifteen... :-(
I've given it a thumbs up. But what never ceases to amaze me is why these U-tube videos always seem to be made in very dim weather, and then the vehicle windscreen is also not in best condition. When anyone is making something that is going to be looked at all year (including during hot summer periods), what interest do viewers have to look at something like that while they have better weather in their back garden at home.!!!!
Thank you all for your comments on videos. New Torquay driving video uploaded with some commentary. Many thanks. th-cam.com/video/1EMaF5dPSpw/w-d-xo.html
Old Torwood Road calling...10 minutes walk to the marina in Torquay, and dont hear much traffic or people. Only just moved here and dont regret it one bit....Probably one of the nicer trad English seaside towns...full of European and American tourists this time of year, so they must be doing something right
I hadn't been in Torquay since Monday 30th December 2019, apart from travelling through on the train on Tuesday 11th February 2020. Once the Covid-19 passed through, and restrictions are lifted, I will probably be back down to see my friends again.
Thanks for the video some bits of Torquay I`ve not seen before I was a regular visitor to that part of the world for quite a few years,2010 was the last time I was there,no better place for me especially when the sun`s out beats landlocked Northampton hands down can`t wait to go back

Holidayed in Paignton for 9 years now
And I’m 11,
Me and my parents truly fell in love with the place
My home too! You drove rlly close too my house actually-
Hey leroyrs. Thank you for the comment. I'm glad the video brought back some memories and hope that one day you have the chance to visit again.
Beautiful, I was there on a language course in 1992, now living in Suffolk I'd like to take my family there
Great video. I had a friend who lived in Torquay, who recently passed away. It was interesting to see the community where he lived.
Loved the stone walls, all the green vines and trees and narrow streets.
Thank you... it's beautiful there.

its amazing to see people walking about in town still in POLO t shirts , bermudas and ladies in single layered clothings, what month was this weather, it looks comfortable for a lot of young people on the streets , they are wearing a lot of knee baring clothings like late summer ?

It doesn´t look like England with all these southerly plants, that´s amazing. I´m looking forward to visit that area.
