With these kind of infections you must look at the whole picture. There is a host/pathogen interaction. Why do these people not clear the bacteria in the CSD phase of infection? And when they develop chronic bacteremia, why do some have symptoms and others not?
Also, without a sufficient host response, most antibiotics that are only bacteriostatic will fail. This is true for almost all intracellular infections that require a reservoir to survive.
Since acute CSD doesn't require antibiotics in most individuals or at least does nothing to speed recovery, and chronic infection is the result from an insufficient host response, using antibiotics for this chronic phase that are not bactericidal is highly contradictory.
We must find better solutions than prescribing rifampin/macrolide or rifampin/tetracycline treatments because 6 months fails, 12 months fails and 18 months fails with regular dosages in most of these patients. There is no treatment that works when the patient does not tolerate rifampin.

im here.. because I havent been able to get my doctors to evaluate and ask questions.. test to either rule out or diagnose and treat me.. Im not an expert.. but I know my body and know my life experiences.. like becoming ill ..multi symptoms .. after an injury.. a dog that was exposed to a filthy environment..it would sharpen its nails with its teeth.. it scratched through my skin.. my lil wrist.. a rash erupted after and i was prescribed antibiotics for " mrsa staph and scabies meds.. never had any tests to determine if i had staph mrsa .. but the antibiotics seemed to work..for the rash to go away..but other skin problems..lil back fibers or flea like tiny splinters.. come out of pores and sting as they do..my eyes also sting..but i have no idea if that's from being injured by an animal.. well...within 10 months.. i had been injuref 3 more times. 1 dog bite and 2 cat scratches.. the last injury was on march 9th 2018... ( my symptoms are fatigue.. 80 % of the time.. vision loss .. confused ..forgetfulful.. underarm has been painful ..to extend ..move arm and hand is weak.( over 5 mos)

We hear that a lot! It's such a new area of medicine that the complexity overwhelms at times. The clinical picture will become clearer as more clinical research is completed and synthesized. First we have to get good funding behind Bartonella. The medical discovery process takes time for a number of complicated reasons.

You'll have the regular conservative opposition. Just as with Lyme disease, the IDSA has not been open to the idea Bartonella can cause more diseases than the already described endocarditis, peliosis hepatitis, bacillary angiomatosis and cat scratch disease or the acute bacteremia and chronic eruptive phase of bartonella bacilliformis.
They would like nature to be as simplistic as their characterization of some of these infectious diseases.

Wow where to satar t with Dr. B? So you have all this information about how bart behaves, but no definitive treatments? Why can't galaxy offer these tests at a more competitive price point? If you are trying to help people you should make testing affordable. All these references to your own company and the repeated suggestions to test using your patented bapgn process seems like a conflict of interest.

This is a brand new area of medical discovery, Luc. First comes better testing, then lots of clinical research, then better treatments. At Galaxy we spend about half our time on research--writing proposals, testing clinical samples, reporting and publishing our results. Right now, there a number of different treatments available, but they don't work for all patients. With better testing, clinical researchers can start doing the research needed to identify better treatment protocols for specific patient groups. Importantly, Dr. B is a veterinary researcher, driving discovery through basic research at NCSU as well as Galaxy. There is no conflict of interest in sharing how we are using our own novel technology and other more conventional technologies to decode a newly identified medical mystery. How else would that work?

    The new cancer

Except people understand cancer. Bartonella can be debilitating and DEVASTATING. People send gift baskets to people with cancer. They tell people with bartonella to just get out more and eat better. It is very frustrating and disheartening how people judge those with invisible and chronic infections/diseases.
