The Andrew story was genuinely heartwarming. I hope that kid goes places

Wow, discovering the girl’s mother was the one actually harming the kids was shocking! It's a relief that she was moved to live with her grandparents and is now happy and thriving.

I had a 3rd grade girl I worked individually with during my student teaching. She was a total sweetheart, but had a lot of trouble with school. She probably should have been in a special needs class full time, but I can understand why she was in a regular classroom. She could barely read at a Kindergarten level and that's what I would work with her with, reading. Her parents did a phone conference with my Cooperating Teacher and me. Her mother told us that she and the girl's dad didn't want to do work for her. Understandable, but she at least needed some guidance. I get the feeling that her parents didn't care to even help her with her homework nor to read with her at home. I only met her parents once, but they made me so mad! She was constantly missing days and her mom even took her to a doctor's appointment that was for the mom. That just made me fume even more, since she was already so behind her peers. I hope if I didn't do anything else, that I instilled a love of reading in that girl that her parents didn't try to. I hope that she does well and gets better with school the older she gets. I'll probably forever worry about her and wonder where she ends up.

I taught in the 1980s. I wasn’t good with 30 kids in a class so after my first year of full time I moved to acting as a tutor for the same school system. One on one I was great. I worked with kids in drug and alcohol rehab and kids in a mental health outpatient setting. I found that the kids were great but the parents were a nightmare. The mental health kids had the worst parents. Wish we could have forced the parents into care.

That teacher who got mad at a kid because their parents bought them a play station instead of a book needs to get the stick out their ass.
I hate the stigma that games aren't educational and are actively harming kids development, im a proud gamer since childhood and about 80% of what i know i do because games got me interested in those subjects.
I got into science and biology from games like Resident Evil, astronomy and engineering from games like Space Engineers, architecture and gardening from Minecraft.
Even communication and language skills by interacting with other players.
And all of it together gave rise to my absolute favorite hobby of creative writing and even a bit of Philosophy.
Why are kids today dumber than the last generation? Not because of videogames, it's Because you created hellish learning environments and make education grueling and uncomfortable.

I mean a game magazine about new releases would have been a good idea. “Look what’s coming out soon and see if you fancy anything”

I taught ballet in exchange for free tuition at the local dance school in my old neighborhood. When I was casting director for the spring recital, I was rushed by their moms. The entitled little Karens-in-training I taught were the result of the Karen stage/dance moms I had met.

18:50 you don't get an IEP for just "wanting to learn a different way", you get it by having a condition that requires it. And you have to fight for it, generally you need proof from medical professionals/organisations. Especially with extra time in exams, sounds like the kid has autism or dyspraxia or something and needs that extra consideration.
I grew up diagnosed with dyspraxia, and I had teachers like op who just wrote me off because my handwriting was bad. Was in remedial English purely because the middle-set English teacher just wrote me off for being weird and having bad handwriting. I did one mock exam, this time with the extra time I should have gotten, got sent to the head teacher's office, had to do another mock exam in the hall outside his room, then got moved to the top set. Screw you Mr Bland and screw you op, either follow the IEP whether you disagree with it or not or just retire.

Okay, but TECHNICALLY, new tires can affect the speedometer, but only if you've put the wrong size tires on

Do want the doctor who’s cleaver enough to get away with cheating or the one who actually studied operating on you?
You’ve seen too many movies if you think being able to cheat is better than actual information 😅

My husband and 1st wife were called into school about daughter needing speech therapy. Parents arrive with broad NYC accent. So, daughter didn’t need therapy

I wrote a long and heartfelt comment and it didn't even show up. What a let-down.

are you seriously not allowed to say “gambling” on youtube without risk of demonitization? 😒

Any possibly demonitizable words are better off being removed from a video rather than chancing it and losing money.
Welcome to TH-cam: not having hurt feelings is our priority.

When you pronounce "parents'" as "parentses," you sound like Sméagol. It should be pronounced the some with the apostrophe as without. Similar problem with your pronunciation or "children's."
