Our Best Buy in Lancaster moved about a year ago to the old Circuit City/HH Gregg, so now the old Best Buy building (which is only about 10 years old) has been abandoned since.
Wow,a pretty new shuttered Best Buy location???The big outdoor electrical switch was connected to an outdoor compactor that the rubbish hauler removed & took back when store closed.Thank God switch was off since 220 cable was cut.⚡
There's rumor that Harbor Freight tools is looking into buying this old Best Buy building. A little back history on why I think they decided to shut down this location: This particular Best Buy I think had trouble with their sales from day one. And I want to say this Best Buy opened around 2006-07. I know they opened just as the circuit city was going through liquidation. I know the last few years this Best Buy was opened they did away with the automotive installs, and they literally put a wall up halfway through the store and removed the appliance department as well as all of the pit music and DVD sections. The store during its last 4 years of life was half as big on the inside and only sold computers, televisions and the cell phones. Beaver county didn't have the wealth to support the not so competitive prices of Best Buy and would shop elsewhere for appliances such as lowes right down the hill from here and buy televisions from Walmart. I also know an inside source and from what they tell me this stores credit card program was a mess. Customers would open credit cards buy merchandise and never pay on the cards and let everything go to collections. So I know this was a very underperforming store.
Trae Conklin Wow wee.... I didn't know this store was that bad. And especially that small on the inside. It looked small from the outside but I can't imagine how much smaller it was inside. That would be awesome if Harbor Freight moves in. I love that store. I get a lot tools and things I need for work. I work in an auto body shop.
The GearShots Thanks! I didn't know there was garbage back there. Maybe the owner of the building is trying to clean it up for a potential business or lease. Who knows.
I used to work at the Beaver Valley Hampton Inn in Monaca PA. This Best Buy was always dead compared to the one in Robinson Township PA only 15 minutes away.
I used to work at this Best Buy until passed it's last day to help ship product out. It was closed due to the rent for the building bumping up and it didn't make sense to keep it open, especially with another Best Buy 15-20min down the road.
Munchkine26 That's what I said! Definitely doesn't need much to be repurposed. Other than the iconic Best Buy facade, you could pretty much leave the exterior alone.
+WallieB26 i would probably tear like the sign thing down and make it look similar to one of those old staples (the boxy type of look) and make it into some type of store.
a few Best Buys in my area of Oregon closed right after xmas of 2015 I think. One just across state lines in Washington closed and a few others. I lived a 5 minute walk from my local one up til last year. now I live like 10 minute drive from it. My ex neighbor still works there. Hard to believe its even still open. Even with it being in a outside mall. I swear business is down. I always noticed how many people are in there when I am there. 7-8-19
If some of the outside lights are on they might have a photo cell at the top of them and there might be just enough dirt on the photo to trick them to come on
That Nate Guy On TH-cam I didn't even realize that! Thanks for commenting that. I don't know if it's for any particular reason or if it was a different store before it was Best Buy. I wouldn't say it's because the property owner(s) of the mall and surrounding businesses wanted all the buildings to look similar because a lot of the other businesses have all kinds of different facades. I know there is a shopping center in Columbus, Oh, I was at, where all the buildings and businesses all looked the same on the outside including a Bob Evans that we ate at.
Curt Davis The mall is hurting too so it really doesn't surprise me much that this is gone. Sears and Macy's are closed too. So the mall only has 2 anchors now instead of 4.
I did a Dead/Dying Mall video which I will post most likely Saturday so you'll see what I mean. The mall was depressing. The surrounding businesses outside of the mall seemed to be doing just fine. I guess Best Buy just didn't have enough profitability to keep this store open.

Old Timer Agreed. I grew up in the 90s on cassettes and CDs. Their music selection was way better than Best Buy's ever was. Borders was excellent too. I was sad when they closed in Ross Township minutes from my house.
Crazy to see a place like this closed up, considering our generation now has a big role in electronics!

I had less-than-great experiences at BB, so I stopped going there.
I used to work at the one here in Bel Air, Maryland from 1997-2015. It wasn't great for some of the employees too.
Supposedly there's been some recovery, but my local store got closed, either way.
