This was a good video them old shot gun shell are cool. I started hunting in the early 60’s and all the shells I would buy was paper probably come from western auto and if they got wet a few times they would swell up and not want to chamber up.I remember when the plastic came out. You really love life & history that’s why I enjoy your Chanel so much .😊❤
You found some good ones on this trip Donnie! I can't get over the money just laying there 😀 And the story behind the Higgins shell makes it really neat!
Wow awesome finds Mr. Donnie!! I've never heard of the 84- 20 caliber!! You sure bring history to life with your knowledge! Thank you and God bless you Sir 🙏 ❤️
Sir, I can't tell you how much I appreciate you showing the close pictures and the cleaned up picture at the moment when you find stuff. It makes it so nice to see what you found right then. Still looking forward to coming to Tennessee when the gas prices go down some. If the Lord will allow, would like to share coffee and a meal with you, my treat. Take care. May the Lord bless and keep you my friend.
Mr Laws, I do believe that as you spoke about finding coins, God just decided to make it easy for you to find these coins today! I’m sure fascinated by the shotgun shells etc. I was too little to be allowed around my Daddy’s guns so I’m enjoying seeing you and your finds! Thank you so much for sharing your videos with us! Blessings always! ❤️✝️
Donnie your videos are so inspirational to all Appalachian people I've gotten a metal detector and all. I'll post a link to my finds soon. Thank you my brother and God Bless
Hey Donnie. I LOVE metal detecting!!! In Florida I used to get up early, and be at beach before sunset and go up and down the beach metal detecting. I used to find tons of jewelry where tourists would put their fingersj in the sand or take rings off to get in the ocean (actually the salt water made my gold jewelry shine to blind you...never hurt my jewelry one bit) but many people would wrap their jewelry in towels etc.😳 ) Many wedding rings lost! Broke my heart. 😪Police station or Courthouse didn't want to keep them and be responsible. 😪 Best thing for those was donate them for money and let the charity do the selling. No JOY in keeping/selling someone's happiest moments and treasured item. But finding something old or from my Indian heritage would be a thrill. And coins are fun. Really old ones are exciting. I have an 1860 Indian Head small gold coin. Has the full headress! You would love it. I need to get it appraised. Goes into my Spring fund of returning to Appalachia this Spring from Boone County, Kentucky! I am looking for my acre of paradise to work and tend the last seasons of my life. (You promised to teach me how to make beef stew...mountain style!) What type of coffee is best for brewing outside? Is one better than the other? Look at your collection of old coins. I love them!!! (p.s. you have very handsome hands)😊✋✋✋great days find! 😉😉🌦🌥🌤🌞🌌🌌😌💚💚🕊🕊💚💚🛐🛐🛐🌳🌲🌳🌲🌳🌲💚
Great find. As you said J.C. Higgins was a line of sporting equipment marketed by Sears and Roebuck up until the early 1960's when they dropped that to market the new Ted Williams brand. Always well priced relaible items made for "the working man"! Now................if you find a 14ga shotgun shell head you REALLY have a rare find so keep digging! :))
Hey there Donnie, I watch your TH-cam channel quite a bit , and I really enjoy the things you record with the animals and watching you on your metal detecting adventures . I found that JC Higgins shot gun shell to be pretty interesting . when I was a boy my Mother had a JC Higgins bicycle that she used once in while . it was pretty Fancy made , and built heavy from quality material . I asked her one time how old it was and she said it was about as old as she was ,. so that would have probably been made some time in the 1930s. And it most likely came from Sears . I was told by my Aunt that when they were young a lot of people would order things from Sears or Montgomery Ward from catalogs that they would get in the mail because it was a easier was of shopping . especially if you didn't have transportation to get to the store very often .
Again another great video. Makes me want to take a medal detector to those old login rds and closed mines where I grew up. Might even inspire me to make a channel myself. Again appreciatecha buddy
My two luckiest finds artifact hunting: My uncle, cousins and I used to walk Mead paper pulp cutovers in Georgia, looking for Creek Indian artifacts. One time, I saw a piece of quartz sticking out of a dozer tire track. When I pulled it out, it was a complete, unfinished ceremonial spear point. I have it to this day. We also used to hunt for shark’s teeth in the creek up the road from his farm house. I had my hand down a hole in the bank and grabbed ahold of a snake. Luckily, it was a brown snake and not a water moccasin.
I've never found a J.C. Higgins shell either! Very cool! My rarest is a .410 nitro express of some kind. Took me a week to find any info on it at all. Welcome aboard my friend. Thank you so much. Please do check out all the different subject I try to cover on the channel. Again thank you friend. Just a old Mountain boy sharing our history of these hills.
I knew the name J. C. Higgins and I linked it in my mind to Sears when you showed this, but not because of shotgun shells. Back in the ‘60’s, I was scanning the Sears catalog looking at bicycles and they also branded their bikes with this name. I think this would be a fun hobby. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Bobby. They are people in these ridges that are not permitted to be here. Sooner or later I will meet up with one. I'm going to have to start wearing some orange again. You never know. I will have hold back till hunting season is over. I walked upon two new tree stands that wasn't there 2 weeks ago. The unexplored places I can't go right now. Thanks for sharing my friend.
Another interesting video, Donnie. The spilled change reminds me of some change I found when walking along the highway some years ago. It was odd, mix of Canadian, and US change. Did some young'n throw it out the window? That's my best guess; was like a couple of dollars worth American, and unsure how much of the Canadian coins. The discussion of J.C. Higgins, and Sears made me think of how few Sears are left now. I believe only twenty five in the entire USA still in business. My Grandma ordered stuff through their catalogs for many years. I recall a coffeepot from 1950s was still working well in mid-1980s. Try that with today's appliances! I doubt the company will last this year out. Another piece of American history fading away. Got off subject a bit there. Thanks again for the video.
Another good hunt Donnie, some real nice finds. Reckon somebody laid their back pack down and money fell out when they picked it up. The JC Higgins shell is rare find 👍.Thanks Donnie and have a Good Weekend 🙂.
Another great video Mr Donnie. That was so weird finding that pocket change on that ole rock. That one JC Higgins shotgun shell also. Well I appreciate ya, looking forward to the next video my friend
I used to have a JC Higgins 22 simi auto pistol… I think back then companies like Remington’ Winchester and others made rifles and pistols for Sears and Sears put their name on it… just like western auto use to have the revelation name… I’ve owned several revelation firearms as well…. Thanks awesome video buddy….
I just discovered you vidios tonight and I gotta say man sure remind s me of home. I was born in the Ozarks and grew up in the missippi delta of eastern arkansas. Live in Boston now and I hate it can't even get no grits or cornbread here.the hunting and fishing is awful. You have made want to go home.
Welcome aboard my friend. Boston's no place for a country boy. Maybe friend I can bring some of it to you. Thanks for sharing my friend. Take care up there you hear.
Another great video Brother. GOD absolutely knew what he was doing when he made these Appalachian mountains. Have you ever wondered how many squirrel and grouse was put on the tables for supper??? I appreciate you very much.
i have seen a old higgins shot gun and a old buck eye shot gun. the man that owned them died years ago. the buck eye shot gun factery was in lynchburg va.. union army burn it to the ground and may have killed owners it was never rebuilt. so all of them would be older than 1864. you have a lot of good video's i am glad you are saving the pass. i wished i had wrote down every thing my grand father knew he died in 1973 i was just a kid then. take care, be safe and well.
You know you gave me a good idea there's a church camp next to my parents house and the trail is an Old Wagon Trail i rode motorcycles on when I was a kid we still mushroom hunt up there but there's an old house site you can still find the foundation and there's an old well on the property I'm sure it's never been metal detected because not many people have access to it but I do! I think come spring when the mushrooms are up I'll take my metal detector with me there's gotta be old coins up there near that well. Oh also I posted a comment saying something negative about the government and inflation you replied to it but TH-cam took it down as far as I can tell because it's gone just an FYI censorship at its finest 😮💨 anyway awesome videos as always brother
I have left change lay like that before in the hills,, i was bow hunting for deer and the change in my pocket was making a lot of noise, even when i was sitting down ,it would rattle, so i just left the coins on the ground and kept on hunting..
JC Higgans was a sporting goods name for Sears Roebuck well into the 60's. My father worked for Sears from before WW2 until his retirement in the early 70's. Ted Williams was also involved and had his name on much of the outdoor gear also. I remember these trade names well. I was born in '47.
I have learned something watching you. I did not know they made steel headed shotgun shells back in those days. I thought they were all brass. Of course we have had them for a while now ,Just brass or zinc washed. I still remember when I was a boy in the 70's shooting shells out of my Remington 1100 that would have dents in them from the shell latch because the heads were brass.
That's right. The brass will last a long time in the ground. The steel don't last very long at all. The older the better shape I have noticed. Thanks for sharing my friend.
You remind me of a friend I had over 50 years ago , he had a saying “ we don’t make much money but we sure have a lot of fun “. I hope you find an old 28 Ga. hull
Another question Donnie, when did the high brass shotgun shells come out? I've noticed a lot of the older shells are low brass shotgun shells. Thanks again for all your work you do!!
High brass shells were needed because of the powder charge used. Being paper hulled ;the powder could burn through the hull so they extended the case head to solve the problem so that it wouldn't get into the chamber. It seem to not effect lighter loads so they continued to make them as low brass to aid in identification. They don't really need to do it today because this doesn't effect plastic shells. They do it now because of tradition mostly.
A couple of companies came with them in the 20's or so just to try the market on them. I know that's all I would buy squirrel to hunt with. More powder. They could reach up in the trees better. Thanks for sharing my friend.
I had an old JC Higgins 16 gauge shotgun back around 1968-69. It was a single shot. I don’t remember whatever happened to it. It was my very first shotgun.
Hey Donnie could you tell us the type your metal detectors is? I’ve looked at a few online but there’s so many out here. I’m overwhelmed a bit. We sure would appreciate it. Thanks much😊
Some hunter didn't want the coin jingle to give him away, so he emptied his pockets on the nearest rock with the idea that someone would find it some day...I've done it.
Rivet? Look off maybe Log Tk where they put new lining on brakes. They are a threaded Rivet they used & drop 1. Shaped that way to rebolt the new brake lining to old brake shoe.
This was a good video them old shot gun shell are cool. I started hunting in the early 60’s and all the shells I would buy was paper probably come from western auto and if they got wet a few times they would swell up and not want to chamber up.I remember when the plastic came out. My two luckiest finds artifact hunting:
My uncle, cousins and I used to walk Mead paper pulp cutovers in Georgia, looking for Creek Indian artifacts.

Another question Donnie, when did the high brass shotgun shells come out? I've noticed a lot of the older shells are low brass shotgun shells. Thanks again for all your work you do!!
High brass shells were needed because of the powder charge used. I betcha that change was rattling in some hunter's pocket. Spooking game as he walked.
Could be. Thanks for sharing my friend.
Hey Donnie could you tell us the type your metal detectors is? I’ve looked at a few online but there’s so many out here. I’m overwhelmed a bit. We sure would appreciate it. Thanks much😊
I use a Minelab Equinox 600 and a Garret pin pointer. Thanks for sharing my friend.
Some hunter didn't want the coin jingle to give him away, so he emptied his pockets on the nearest rock with the idea that someone would find it some day...I've done it.
Never thought of that my friend.
Finding that change laying out like that was strange
I thought so to. I figured hunters.
Rivet? Look off maybe Log Tk where they put new lining on brakes. They are a threaded Rivet they used & drop 1. Shaped that way to rebolt the new brake lining to old brake shoe.
I like that ideal. Thanks for sharing my friend.
Put em in a big jar and when you find more, put them in your jar and they will add up!!!😊 ❤️🙏
Thank you friend.

Have you found bottles older than 1930s?
A few, but not in good condition.
Donnie, how much seng and yellow root have you seen while doing this?
Not much my friend. I think the sang was worked out long ago.
I also forgot to add we have a JC Higgins shotgun. It's a bolt-action 20 gauge. I've also got a JC Higgins shotgun cleaning kit from the 1950s.
Awersome! Thanks for sharing my friend.
Sears, the original Amazon. It is strange to think that the store in the mall used to manufacture and sell ammunition.
You know your right. Thanks for sharing my friend.

I never have seen one my friend. Thanks for sharing.
My dad has one and it’s the best shotgun I’ve ever used. Killed a lot of squirrels with it when I was younger.
