There are quite a few channels of young (and some not so young) ladies experiencing this type of lifestyle. By and large, they are fearless in the projects they take on.

I hate to be that guy, but that is a fire hazard. The exhaust outlet gets very hot and is too close to your plywood subfloor. They make a "turret plate" (look on ebay) for exactly this situation. You'll have to drill a much bigger hole in your floor, but you won't set your van on fire that way!

_Hello! I came across your vlog about the diesel heater. Since I also install them for customers, may I make a few suggestions? I know it is a pain in the butt, but it might best if you pull the heater back up really quickly and cut the wood around the hole a bit larger; the exhaust does get hot. It might help go from the top and drop the line into any tank on the fuel tank next time. Those little square feet are really for tilting the tank to get more fuel usage from the tank. The pump will make noise, so the best course of action is hanging the pump; it will help cut down on the noise. You and your dad did a good job of installing your new heater. You will love it. I know I love mine, and so do my customers. If you have any questions, please ask._

When watching this I was thinking about my own two daughters and how great it would feel to fix this exact thing together for a camper that either of them had and used for great road trips. It means so much doing meaningful stuff together, just like this.

Just FYI, the command thought for mounting the fuel pump is to mount it at a 45 degree angle. The pumps seem to last longer. Checkout Living the Vanlife’s channel as well as several videos on using them in shops. I have had several bunk heaters in trunks, in trucking they are called bunk heaters, and we don’t have co2 detectors in the trucks.

Wow, that was quite a job! I had decided that that was the type of heat source I was going to go for once I am able to get my minivan converted. Well I was watching I was thinking how nice it would be if my dad we’re here to help me convert my van. But if that were the case he would be much too old to help me, since I am 73🤣 I will have to hire mine done, once I have gotten rid of everything.

I was thinking the same thing about my father assisting me if he was still here. I'm 60 and if he were here, and to old to do it himself, he would be sitting by my side directing me on what to do. He was a very creative soul, there was very little he couldn't do. I sorely miss him... well both the parentals 🥴.

I have watched more of your videos and have to say what a great job you have accomplished. Something you might be interested in doing is putting a Marine Boat Hatch (Glass) forward of your Solar Panels. This will let you stand up in the Van if you have to change clothes etc. You can also prop it open for airflow. Great Job and safe travels...........

You & your dad are awesome, great job!👍. If I may suggest one thing... that little muffler needs to go upright because it has a weep hole for condensation to drip out, otherwise it’ll get rusted quickly! I hope this helps.

Looks very good. I think it was @vancity_vanlife who said in one of his videos that he was told to run his on "High" for a few minutes every day or so to keep the burner from getting coated with carbon. (I think I remember him propping the doors open when he did. Apparently the heaters are powerful enough to run you out of the van in a short period of time. A lot of channels have them and most seem to be happy with them.)

    • @rudivandoornegat2371

Also run them at least once each two weeks on high, year round. Especially in the summer, to avoid problems caused by soot build up and old, expired diesel fuel.

Really important..small van takes low heat so never turned up...So many people don't turn to max to burn off carbon. On start-up some have a high heat cycle others have high heat run when turning off. Hope this helps,it gets forgotten in those amazing instructions!!!!

I loved my 1991 Aerostar AWD above all other vehicles I've owned, and plan to buy another, and am looking right now. I plan to do something similar to what you are doing. I sleep in a recliner and have for many years, so plan to simply install a driver or passenger seat designed to be reversed and reclined, which will leave a lot of space. It will pivot and slide for an appropriate location. I don't consider running water terribly important, and I've found that a solar shower works well for me when car camping, but a simple engine heat exchanger using a heater hose and a copper coil immersed in a container of water will produce a lot of hot water. The upward opening rear hatch would make a wonderful extension tent roof without a lot of work leaving a stand up area at the back. A composting toilet using sawdust or peat moss or coconut choir can be simple and odorless. It is wise to have some sort of grey water system even if you bypass and dump your wash water so that you can park in places that require "self contained". I used to cook on the engine of my car when traveling, but the Aerostar doesn't have places to do that. However, engine coolant reaches temps that easily will cook food safely.
There is no other vehicle I've owned that seemed so "self driving". The Aerostar drove like it was on rails. It just wanted to follow the road..... I felt like I could get up out of the driver's seat and walk back and grab a beer out of the cooler, and when I got back it would still be in the lane.......... truly amazing and relaxing to drive. By contrast, I've driven a number of the GM Astro/Safari, and they want to be anywhere but in the lane. You have to drive them every second....the most terrible handling I've ever experienced in a modern vehicle. If you turn for example and then let the wheel spin in your hands, instead of straightening out as it should, they turn sharper and head for the ditch. The contrast is incredible.
Beware the rear antilock brakes.... hit a patch of sand at a stop sign, and they simply cut the rear brakes loose........ the only truly terrible aspect to the Aerostar.... I don't know if they ever upgraded to a decent true 4 wheel antilock, but that was a very bad system.
My favorite heating system is the Buddy catalytic heater. It produces zero CO, and is extremely fuel efficient. No holes or chimney.

Congrats to you and your dad for the successful installation of the diesel heater.
You still have a good use for the money you would else save for the heater if it wasn't a gift.
Now it's time for a battery monitor.
In the past you only run lights on your battery. But now also the heater's fan, glow plug, display, and fuel pump.
On the lowest setting the power consumption will average 1 to 5 Ah per hour. On startup and shut down it pulls up to 11.5 amps @ 12V. Running at full blast it pulls 3.5 to 3.7 amps.
If you're on a budget you won't look for battery monitors of brands like Victron Energy, Xantrex, Sterling Power, Magnum Energy and the like.
There are cheap monitors that will only show what is going out. But you need a battery monitor that measures current what is going in and what is going out the battery, and than calculates the difference what is still in the battery.
A few suggestions are the AiLi battery Monitor, the Renogy battery monitor, and the old Ming He Drok. All are on eBay and Amazon, and review and installation videos on TH-cam are available. Installation of all battery monitors, are the same. So you can also watch installation videos of the Victron Energy battery monitor.

PYS' number one electrical recommendation. A battery monitor is a fuel gauge and speedometer for your batteries and takes the guesswork out of managing your boat's energy consumption. How deeply you discharge your batteries directly correlates to how many battery cycles you can expect.

If that fuel pump for diesel heater is too loud for you, there is an ultra quiet replacement available on eBay I know of for about $40. The pump that comes with Chinese heater makes knocking noise because it is metal to metal contacting parts inside pump.

If you remove all the plastic interior, you double the space inside. My cargo Aerostar came with no simulation or rear interior, so I started from scratch.

Must be nice, daddy is pretty handy.. it’s a good idea to have a co detector, first aid kit and a fire extinguisher. Just in case.

So awesome! I came across your videos because I found a 1995 ford aerostar for sale in my area and I am very temptedddddd haha. How has it been on the mechanical side? also how is the speed going up hills and acceleration? just asking because I live in Canada and I will be moving to British Columbia to do the vanlife and the mountain roads there are crazy haha

Only thing I see to change is the muffler has to be turned to let moisture out. It should have an arrow pointing down.
