morning legend,,,hey may i suggest you look into 3m scotch brite pads. for what your doing you want the grey one. its makes sanding down shapes really easy trust me please. we used to use the in painting industry, get the green one for first sand, gray one for matt finish. you can thank me later lol . cheers dan big love mate
Cheers and thanks. I happened to buy a pack of the 3m pads, gold, silver and grey in a pack and the green ones in a separate pack. They are sold for cleaning pots and pans without scratches to fine China and crystal. I imagine they are the same as the ones sold for sanding, would it be correct please?
Daniel, I don't think you are old enough, but when I was in elementary school there was a song about a "one-eyed, one-horned, flyin' purple people eater." I thought of that when you lifted your hand off the octopus. This is an awesome result. Respect to the original artist for this inspirational idea. (Edited to remove emoji)
I think the little dots are cute. Your son is so lucky to have a dad who is talented, smart and who has learned from mistakes made. Love love your work.
As a glass blower who loves a matte finish, I want to suggest a fine grit sand-blasting instead of hand-ruining sanding. Sand blasting units are available in many price ranges (US): it doesn't need to be top of the line for occasional use. Awesome work Daniel!
Dan you are to art, what Mozart was to music. You are the Picasso of your day. Never stop creating. And stop underestimating you work. " You are good enough "
I found a method to make resin look like frosted glass by modifying the mold. By sanding the mold and creating fine scratches, the resin will come out with a frosted effect. The finer the sandpaper, the smaller the scratches, so using a finer sandpaper is better. I used 1200-grit sandpaper, which was the finest I had, to scratch the mold. The resin created with this scratched silicone mold had a frosted glass effect. Give it a try if you like. Thank you always for your wonderful ideas. 😊
Four and a half hours? That sounds a BONKERSLY short amount of time for this novice… it can take me that long to make a pair of UV earrings!! (Then again, I’m blind in one eye so can’t see what I’m doing half the time 😂😂) Loving your work, Daniel, thank you for sharing this ❤
Hey Daniel! This looks awesome, I would have to drill out that head and make it liquid, I posted on your FB some skulls I did, granted it took a lil bit of time, but done complete within an hour. Can you imagine making that big ol' octopus head fluid? If you do try it, once you've drilled the cavity, you need to coat in uv to get it clear, but once that's done, the world is your oyster...or octopus lol My technique came from you, inspiration from your experiments. So, thank you x Quick edit 'cos I forgot lol, I watched a lady that was backing with chameloeon flakes who just used alcohol spray, no uv resin until the end. I tried it, worked brilliant.
😮❤❤ but octopus is wonderful. I’ve never seen anything like that. This is the first for me and it’s the first time. I really looked at your channel, but I’ll keep following once again gorgeous😊
This is so cute! It’s a great look 👍 How much time to spend on a piece of art? I personally think it’s much more about the enjoyment and the experience of creating something you love than the time spent doing it. ❣️🌹
You beat me too it 😂 I have that mould and knew it would look amazing. I don’t think you can have a time limit to art. I’ve spent days on some projects. Love your galactic octopus 🐙🥰
I am a nailtech and I never had issues with matte topcoat flaking off. Ofc nails are much smaller, but they are also "used" while this piece of art probably wouldnt be put into such stress. And if you are afraid that they might flake off maybe you cound just give it very rough sanding and matte topcoat would stay on better on such surface while giving it eaven finish. Another idea: you can topcoat it with clear uv resin and while it is still sticky apply matt topcoat, then the topcoats could fuse together. For the tiny details you could get yourself some cheap efile. The nail bits are great for those crevasses and they come in pretty fine grits. Also, for bigger caboshons it could be actually easier to file tiny surface so it is flat and then stick cabochon onto it. It might prevent some bubbles.
I may give it a try and see for myself, I'm just going by what viewers have said from their experiences. I may invest in a mini sand blasting machine 🥰
Amazing octopus! Incredible! Hours, days, weeks, months, years; art just takes how long it takes. It's up to the artist how long it takes. Being a total beginner, I don't have the knowledge to spend a long time on a piece. Love your work and the fabulous ideas you bring to us!
Yes, I enjoyed it very much. Reminds me of a heavy emerald green ashtray from when I was very little. Glass with perfect micro-bubbles. Dad was a regional salesman to high-end retail stores.
I love seeing you use larger sea creature molds. I love the small drops on it. Not sure about the larger cabochon. Thank you for sharing this cool art style. 😊

Have you ever tried dipping an epoxy piece in acetone or diluted acetone (or whatever solvent reacts with epoxy)? When I was much younger, my sister spilled nail polish on the top of the record player cover and tried to clean it up with nail polish remover. It left a matte spot on a shiny surface. If you could do that, you could maybe get the matte look without scratches.....
Hands you a coffee. Dan, I 've noticed you've been getting your 'jords wumbled' a bit lately. Are you getting enough sleep sweetheart? 😂 Wow, the octopus looks absolutely epic! Was thinking if the mold had 'eyes' that could be coloured to bounce color around through the rest of the head? Anyway, your final piece looked absolutely stunning. As for how long I have spent on a little art piece, 6 hours on a love heart mold in one sitting and enjoyed every second. It was so worth it too as it brings back memories of when my sister and I were little and used to build fairy houses together 😊❤

I'm sure you've thought of all these things but I'm throwing it out there anyway! Or how about a dicro film where the head meets the body and then again on the bottom?? Just ideas! Of course, most of these ideas mean you would have to cure in at least 2 layers but it could be worth it for what you're going for. I love all your ideas and have learned so much from your channel.
