      Martin Treasure do you know what scale the vehicles are in depart 56 i am collecting from Australia and we dont have villages over here so everything i buy has to come from USA..which is a major pain as everything has to run through a stepdown transformer..I thought i could save a heap of money and just use toy cars.

    • @MartinTreasure
      @MartinTreasure  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      geri G From what I have seen, the scale of Department 56 and Lemax buildings does vary a little. Most people tend to use model figurines and cars that are slightly larger than the scale of the houses, so that the details stand out more. It is funny, but when they are exactly the same scale as the houses, they often don't look quite right! I think that toy cars would be the perfect solution and hopefully save you some money. Are you setting up a Christmas village in January then?! :) Please send me some photos of your finished creation!

      +Martin Treasure Hi Martin! I would like to create a stand just like this one to display my Christmas Village this year and I was wondering if you can share with me the height, width, and length of the two tiers utilized on this video. Also, do you happen to know a website that sales "MY VILLAGE" mountain bases, that will also deliver to the U.S? Thank you in advance for your time... :)

    • @MartinTreasure
      @MartinTreasure  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Lymari Lopez Hi Lymari,
      Thanks for your email. The stand was a large 10ft-long dining room table and I extended the width to around 6ft, as I wanted to leave plenty of room for pathways and the green park at the front. If you don't make the tiers wide enough, it is difficult to create the detailed scenes with the people and other miniatures, which to me is the best bit! The tallest tier at the back was made with wooden boxes that were around 14 inches high, with the mountains adding extra height on top. I hope that this helps.
      Re. the My Village mountains, although they look really good, they are ridiculously expensive (GBP45 each) and incredibly flismy as the plastic is so thin, although they are very good shapes and really useful realistic elements, to add height. Therefore, I'm not sure how well they would travel to the US. You might be better off making your own using chicken wire and modroc plaster. However, check out the resources page on my website: christmas-village-displays.com/ . Webbs Garden Centre, Longacres, Millrace or Swallows might be worth contacting. If they can't help, they might be able to recommend someone.
      If you want to try something on a slightly smaller scale, I have some nice printable cardboard houses on the website: christmas-village-displays.com/christmas_printable_houses.html .
      This is a longer, narrower display that I did (top link in the description above): th-cam.com/video/_uHreZVXf7M/w-d-xo.html
      Please let me know how you get on!

    • @123lymari

      +Martin Treasure Thanks for the information Martin... I wish I could make my own as you suggested, but I am definitely not talented that way :)

    • @MartinTreasure
      @MartinTreasure  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Lymari Lopez Hi again, trying taping some cardboard boxes together (different heights) for the platforms and then draping plaster bandage over them. Paint the sides grey and sprinkle a bit of green powder on the paint, and the flat parts white for snow. I'm sure it would look pretty good, but most of it would be covered by the buildings and trees anyway. I've made things like that before and they are really much easier than you'd think. If you email me through my website, I'll send you some photos and instructions if you like: www.christmas-village-displays.com/ (contact us at bottom).

    Magnificent effort martin...I have found the challenge now is more in making the video and editing it than building the village itself....
    It's wonderful to see how this tradition has caught on around the world...
    My contribution is at:
    vimeo.com/82163584
    It is the best quality and crisp video and sound. You may need to wait a minute for it to buffer down, but it gives a beautiful playback. The soundtrack is spectacular so hook your device up the best sound you can get your hands on.
    The TH-cam link is very good, but not as crisp as the Vimeo one. Use it if you have a slower connection.
