I don’t think I ever pulled for a golfer to win any harder than I did for Tom Watson at the age of 59. Would’ve been the greatest feat in golf history.
Absolutely, and it really makes it incredible how he stopped winning Majors at age 34. That would have been over a 25 year absence from Major to Major. Not to be. Which really makes Tiger's and Jacks's last Masters win so special.
Tom Watson winning, at nearly 60, would have been one of the greatest stories in the history of golf. Such a shame. It made it even worse that Stewart Cink (who, let's be honest, is pretty dull) went on to win it.
Adam Scott's loss was just brutal... Tom Watson's loss was the saddest moment of my adult golf viewing experience... I SO wanted him to win... too bad Cink never won another one, as he's forever saddled with "the one that Tom almost won"
agree on Watson, the most comical or one you just have to laugh at was Van De Velde (painful) and his fist pump on his saved triple to make the playoff, I want to say - man you you just lost this open, it was written he would not win in the playoff at that very moment. I agree on Watson and I felt more disappointed than most events I have watched, really wanted to have him add that to his legacy
I went to bed thinking he was home. Couldn’t believe it when I heard what happened. Hit the 5iron off the tee then 5 again onto the green! What was his caddy thinking? All the money they blew too!!!
Except Jean van de velde. Like I was in a match play tournament and I was 3 up on 16. The guy I’m up against hit it OB left so I just hit a 6 iron off the tee and won. It’s so basic lol
Watson’s was certainly heartbreaking, but still, the focus was on what he did over those four days after being out of golfing minds for 15 years… put another way, Watson did not choke it away. Certainly not.
if Adam Scott could putt he would have had double digit majors by now ! even on the last hole which in the clip he hits into the bunker the story behind that shot needs to be known. But wins the best dressed guy on the golf course every time. Looks like he is moving away from Titleist now ....he was sporting lethal driver
Not a heartbreak but had a tear in my eye when Darren Clarke won cos it was a victory for hard work and determination i think grady choked more than norman
Sanders' 2nd putt on the 72nd hole was excruciating. Didn't reset his routine after wiping away the impediment on his line, just stood straight back over the ball then froze there for 13 seconds. Then made the squirmiest stroke imaginable and looked like he tried to rake it back to himself the moment it left the face. Sports psychologists would have an absolute field day analysing that putt.
The Open videos and editing still remain the best on youtube, big shout-out to their team!
Always will be the greatest tournament in golf…and on those wonderful links…I’ve played them all in 2 trips except Muirfield…from Australia

I backed Westwood that year but forgo my bet if Watson had of won

History of Sport
Let's be honest, Tom was the real winner, wasn't he? Absolute legend of the game
That was one of the biggest fxxx you moments in golf history... I watched that Open live...
Heartbreaking. Its shame for Cink because everyone sees that year as the "year tom almost won it".
Still hurts to watch.
@@TomokoMurakami Someone needs to read the rules for that era.

I always wondered if he thought he had won after that putt
still so painful to watch Van der Velde all these years after

Nicklaus almost combo'd Sanders for a finisher after that putt.
I don’t understand why Sanders didn’t putt at the end? That would be a putt to tie, right?
Heartbreaking losses all, but there’s certainly no shame coming in second in a great championship like the Open.

Can’t wait
How is that comment on Sanders ??? Missed it..yes I knew it…poor Doug was frozen with terror over that putt. He needed a routine to stick to.

Sanders said he wasn't that bothered by this loss. Sometimes he could go 5 minutes without thinking about it.
That one is just too sad to watch. Scott Hoch had a similar moment when he blew the masters in 89.
Adam, you're too good to be using that putter
Don't do this to me. 2009 shouldn't exist, and that's nothing against Stewart Cink.
Tom got so unlucky with that hard bounce.. a couple feet shorter and he would have won

Watson is the saddest Doug sanders and van Der velde are up there though jack newton as well 75 😅
I wish that 8 iron of Watson would have stayed

I'm surprised Tom Watson could even hold the putter on 18. His putt look like a 14 handicap. Which doesn't surprise me at all.
It’s is absolutely heartbreaking that all these people got paid around $1.5 million instead of $2 million
I enjoyed the Adam Scott collapse. That anchored putting should have never been allowed
How did Doug Sanders even get in The Open, that's one of the worst swings I've ever seen. As for Stewart Cink, I'll never forgive him
Hahaha, it is a shocking swing…but he won 20 PGA tour events…he must have made amazing contact with the ball.

Trevino's take on the whole thing is really worth listening to.
Golf is a cruel mistress at times
If only Adam Scott had a longer putter…
If he knew only how to putt.
Miss Peter Alliss
Watson was not elementary this time
Parnevik was sad 2
Add Rory to this video😞
spieth was heartbreak? lmao, no. You're just clearly in love with him. He should not be on this list.
If I was Doug Sanders, on the last green when jack almost hit me with his putter, I would have punched him
I think Bob does sports has a better swing than Doug Sanders
"Get in the bunker" no impartial back then?
I am pretty sure he wanted it in the bunker as it would be an easier up and down than hitting out of dodgy long grass.
@@bernie4268 could well be the case, didn't think of that as I am useless out of bunkers.
@@2010LeeG yep these guys can usually get up and down. I haven’t played for a while so I must get out there. Gee I love golf.
@@bernie4268 I'm fairly new to it, started mid 2021 but it's taken over my life. Frustrating but only takes that one shot...
Yeah it’s weird. There’s a lot of green tow work with too, don’t think playing from a bunker is easier there
That first dude deserves to lose with that putter
That dude won the Masters mate. Adam Scott.
rad
Bogeying 4 straight is not heartbreaking it’s bad golf.
Using that kind of putter deserves the loss.
