After more than four years of following the evolution of this bike, I finally bought it. It is the new version 2017 Euro 4, with detachable ABS. Right now, once the KLX 250 and WR250R are discontinued, it has no competition. It's what I expected and wanted, a bike light enough, and versatile, with better performance than the basic 125, and very little more weight. For me, the ideal motorbike for excursions and departures on tertiary roads and natural and rural environments. Anyway, regarding its reliability or if it is worth or not for other tours, ask Steph Jeavons or PeterLeonie, who have been around the world with this bike. Of series, I see two shortcomings little autonomy and little load capacity, but almost everything is correctable because the amount of auxiliary industry accessories for this bike is overwhelming. In short, very happy with her. I hope to have a lot of time, many routes and many experiences ...

I have a crf230 right now do you think this will perform as well offroad. I don't have an issue with my 230 and I'd keep it but I hate not being able to go on the street to find a trail or a place to ride, I think with this I'd never run out of things to do.

    • @trevorjameson3213
      @trevorjameson3213 5 ปีที่แล้ว

Your CRF230 will be better off-road. But the CRF250L has a lot more potential because it's street legal, so you can ride it off-road too and it actually does a very good job off-road. I used to have an XR250R that was incredibly good off-road, but I don't miss it because the CRF250L is so much more fun being able to ride it to the trails, go riding off-road, then ride it home. Very nice bike.

250l is a street legal toned down 250r. The r will make you happy if you want a dirtbike. The 250l will disappoint unless you will just be riding easy trails.

+Joe Rockstar I've seen people go on medium-hard trails, big rocks, they made it (though dropped twice in the video). Still really well for a toned down dual sport bike that one can also ride on the road legally to get home after the trail! It's good for what it was built for!

I don't like the suspension. I ride it to work now. It is my commuter. Plate and sprocket change a 450 r

The L is the street legal dual sport. It was built by taking a 250 chassis and putting a CBR250R street bike motor in it. It has a very smooth and broad HP and torque curve because of this.
The Crf250r is the non street legal Dirt bike that is made and meant for track riding. Its power is all mid to top end and it has an insane amount of power for a bike that weighs 200lbs wet.
It also depends on what type of riding you want. If you want to cruise and hop around the L is for you, but if you just want a dirtbike, don't buy a a dual sport because you are technically buying a "street bike." Go and pick up the 250X its the trail bike. It is the tempered version of a 250r but with way more response capability than the L.

I'd not say "street bike" because that's confusing when people think of "street bike" as those bikes that are only *good* on the street, yet not good off-road.
A dual sport is a dual sport: Good on the street *and* capable (though not the best, when compared to dedicated dirt bikes) off-road.
In most cases, you'll get where a dirt bike can go, just slower with a dual sport.
A dual sport is a master of versatility. :)
I've seen quite a few videos already of stock CRF250L's going through terrain that many on the 'net would've said was nearly impossible, and the riders claimed to be basically novices too.
So far, from what I've seen from multiple sources, a Yamaha WR250R is a bit more capable off-road than the CRF250L, due to more powerful engine, 20-30 lbs. lighter weight of the bike, etc. Though it gets slightly worse fuel economy than the CRF250L.
The CRF250L has a bit more torque in the low end, while the WR250R has more near the medium and high end.
Both are liquid cooled and fuel injected. This is why I will be picking one of these two (likely the CRF250L as my first for now).
A dedicated dirt bike, meant only for the dirt track, will not do well on the street (even if you make it legal with certain aftermarket parts) when it comes to fuel economy, from what I've read, and the engine will need tuning up quite frequently, in the single to double digit hours, not thousands of miles like the dual sports will need.
Hoping he does a lot more homework before buying, so if he does want a dedicated dirt (only) bike, even after seeing the clear limitations, then so be it.

Never watched anything more boring in my life. Perhaps trade in your crf's for a couple of scooters, you might actually be able to handle them
