I think it's going to be more acquainted with people who use the Apple Vision Pro. Watched a demo with a live performance that was mixed for Dolby Atmos, and it was really cool to be able to see the band and turn my head to hear them coming from a different direction!! Would love to see more creative expression with music videos!!
@@mountainlabelmusicyes but what’s the point? You can also upload a stereo 2.0 derived from the the original Atmos mix… the apple vision is a great product however there aren’t enough users to make it work right now.
I heard one guy say that unversal audio forbids the use of the center channel. I guess they save it for comercial application that might need voice-overs. Many of the industry engineers say they use it though. So I guess its fine.
Something should be said about head tracking and its effect on the center channel vs. all speakers. There isn't a case to be made that a center speaker is bad. You have to treat all the speakers in an immersive mix environment as a sphere and understand the implications and artistic decisions that can be made. Especially considering that people listen on headphones that do head tracking (AirPods, etc.). You will hear a center channel vocal whip around you as you move about. Items panned into all speakers will not move, creating a more intimate and truly centered image. Ive heard many early immersive mixes that seemingly are unaware of this, and combined with poor level management accounts for a large number of "bad" atmos mixes out there.
Funny enough, coming from working in postproduction for years, everything that is mono and placed right in the middle instantly sounds weird if not placed in the center-channel.
This center chanel has really been a debate, I rather would put my vocal in L and R cos I always come from stereo and there are minute stereo elements that come with my vocals
Sorry i have to disagree i use the center channel a lot and a massive amount of music i listen to in atmos use the center channel to great use. I think that it helps with movement and also with being able to bring a vocal or lead sound out of the mix. But it;s not for everyone and i think you need to use it sparingly.
I'm not sure what you disagree on, because I agree with you if it sounds good!! My favorite Atmos songs utilize the center channel for vocals and drums both. I did try to use the center channel for a lead vocal recently and it did not translate how I wanted it to with the effects I used for the Stereo mix. Thanks for watching!!
I +guarantee+ you that you know more about acoustics than i do AND that the difference is minimal (at best?), BUT.... those Kalis aren't designed to be be on their sides, right?
These ones can be placed on their sides. The Kali Audio LP series don't work like that, while the IN series you can pretty much place in whatever direction you want, since the tweeter and mid-woofer are coaxial. I have a whole video about it here: th-cam.com/video/pNRqY76R08o/w-d-xo.html I actually currently flipped them upside down now, and they sound great!! Haha
One thing I don't hear anyone talking about is mixing with atmos for music videos and is it important today.

Because TH-cam can’t play Atmos yet… so…why bother on making a videoclip with Atmos if can be played on the lost used streaming platform ?

You can upload 5.1 video to TH-cam, which you can derive from the Atmos version.

Great content

Agreed. It makes sense for a commercial application. Especially for movies, where the dialogue is typically put in the center channel.

That would make sense!! It only sounds weird because we aren't used to it. Still a valuable tool either way to have

And that makes a lot of sense if that is the way you work!! It isn't a wrong way to go

Your claim is wrong. Many atmos soundguys use the center channel.
I'm not sure what you mean by my "claim". Some engineers use it, and some don't. I state this throughout the video :)
