  • Shunt capacitor compensation in transmission lines is utilized to improve power factor and increase transmission capacity. By adding shunt capacitors at suitable locations along the line, the reactive power demand is reduced, resulting in a more efficient transmission system. This compensation technique helps in reducing the line voltage drop, improving voltage stability, and maintaining an evenly distributed voltage profile. Shunt capacitor compensation is commonly employed in long transmission lines to minimize losses and enhance overall system performance.
In this lecture, detail of capacitor calculations are made which is to be attached at the end of the line when there is voltage drop in the long transmission lines. Moreover, a tutorial is presented to further explain the calculations of capacitor rating and reactance value.

In the formula to calculate QR at the receiving end of the line, I am wondering if the term cos(beta.l) goes in that expression. Since X' was calculated as a concentrated reactance. Thanks.
