I have lived in Bawtry for 6 years now. It's a lovely small town full of character and history dating back to Roman times. St Nicholas Church has many interesting features inside and out and there are long ago filled-in smuggler tunnels between Wharf Street and the workhouse you featured. Somewhere in the area is also the long-lost battlefield where Anglo-Saxon king Aethelfrith was defeated by Raedwald, king of East Anglia in AD 616. Nobody knows exactly where this took place and the site has long been searched for but never found.

I assume you know your in a pilgrim fathers meeting place in Bawtry and they would meet up there to travel on to Gainsborough hall and im told would often preach from those stone crosses in Bawtry while waiting for each other and Bawtry is in fact the place they escaped religious persecution from by sailing by barge from Bawtry up the idle and then Trent up to immingham and onto a ship to holland it was there second attempt as there first one was to board a ship to holland in boston lincs but they were caught locked up then released and had to walk back home to Bawtry .also you mentioned hanging in those days the locals were hanged just outside Bawtry town on gibbet hill lane there is a list somewhere of all those who were hung there .

Trouble is there's way too much in the town centre, video would've been an hour or more if I'd attempted everything. I think I got all the main bits, to be fair

Bawtry has a special place in my heart, at 17yrs old (not old enough to drink) I was one of the RAF Policemen there. A regular part of my nightshift was to cycle patrol through the base and out around the perimeter through the village to various married quarter sites. RAF Bawtry was quite a important communications link. However a few months later I turned 18 and now have a love hate relationship with yorkshire beer.
