Another take that I heard about is how the unrequited love was between a gay man and a straight man. The gay man is pining for the straight man who is ambivilous to the gay man's dream. Does the gay man tell him, or has he said too much already?
I still love his dance. I have great memories of dancing around the house like that with my kids to this song (they are 34 & 29 now). Michael very rarely, if ever, let’s us know what his lyrics are about. He leaves them to our interpretation. He may be singing about the milk that spilled & how his mum will be angry & the dance is from his mum’s punishment so he’s praying to be more careful lol! Just to let you know, Irina, the song has nothing to do with religion. The phrase "to lose one's religion" comes from the Southern US and it means to lose one's temper or feeling frustrated and desperate". The whole long probably doesn't really have any real meaning to it, it was just based on the lead guitarist learning the mandolin which is a strigged instrument.
Love 90's music. If your looking for some Russian pop I recommend "American Boy" by Комбинация. Russian pop music is a crazy rabbit hole for a metal head like myself. I don't care if some come across as anti American songs. Everyone loves a good diss track.

Your confusion is quite understandable and correct because the lead singer is gay and he was referring to becoming gay from previously being straight. "Losing My Religion", is homosexual speech for becoming gay or lesbian. I consider this song to be nothing more than homosexual propaganda IMO, because they're telling their impressionable fans it's ok to become something they're not, like many of them do today. Back then when this song came out it was shocking to most listeners to find out that's what it was talking about and it was not as acceptable then, like it is today. I personally find it hard to trust anyone who cannot trust and accept their own biological nature and instead live/act contrary to it. Nature doesn't make mistakes, but people can consciously choose to make mistakes.

Irina another great review of a great song. Despite your confusion over the title and lyrics you still wanted to cry. I believe you felt empathy for the emotional difficulties you felt the singer was expressing. Just my opinion as you are always an open book with your emotions. Having said all that I would just say that song titles and lyrics often have more than 1 meaning and not always literal. Especially older songs when certain subjects were not communicated openly. Just to let you know, Irina, the song has nothing to do with religion. The phrase "to lose one's religion" comes from the Southern US and it means to lose one's temper or feeling frustrated and desperate". The whole long probably doesn't really have any real meaning to it, it was just based on the lead guitarist learning the mandolin which is a strigged instrument.

Love 90's music. If your looking for some Russian pop I recommend "American Boy" by Комбинация. Russian pop music is a crazy rabbit hole for a metal head like myself. I don't care if some come across as anti American songs. Everyone loves a good diss track.

Your confusion is quite understandable and correct because the lead singer is gay and he was referring to becoming gay from previously being straight. "Losing My Religion", is homosexual speech for becoming gay or lesbian. I consider this song to be nothing more than homosexual propaganda IMO, because they're telling their impressionable fans it's ok to become something they're not, like many of them do today. Back then when this song came out it was shocking to most listeners to find out that's what it was talking about and it was not as acceptable then, like it is today. I personally find it hard to trust anyone who cannot trust and accept their own biological nature and instead live/act contrary to it. Nature doesn't make mistakes, but people can consciously choose to make mistakes.
You need to do more research mate. This song is about having a crush on someone and that person not noticing you are even there. Losing my religion is a phrase meaning “to lose your temper”

I moved away from religion...after being brought up in the Lutheran Church....my brother is a great preacher...but I moved away from it long ago. And songs like this reaffirm my transition.
