Happy that inscryption still hasn’t been forgotten mostly, I follow a youtuber that plays it every day, but I was sad because some times 1 vid of something you like per day isn’t enough for you, happy to see there still are other youtubers commenting about it
Projared finished his full playthrough of it, if you want to see a full playthrough. Markiplier just started his tho im unsure how he will satisfy people lorewise since the game is kinda serious toned and with mystery.
Sifd is a youtuber I've been watching who makes daily videos of it also, he does modded and is pretty good at it too. Just suggesting also there are videos out there about the lore and arg stuff, just need to search a bit but God is it good. Love this game ♥
I would like to say, that Act 1 is actually not unbalanced against you, if anything it's in your favor. Things like the Ouroboros can be exploited to do literally hundreds of damage, or getting a flying card with Trifurcation. And in regards to the final battle, one can see what the figure is planning because it shows him with the masks. You can see he's holding that pickaxe and infer "okay, he's using the mechanic from that fight, let's not play all our strongest cards and maybe even sacrifice to get less gold on our end." And when the death cards arrive, they were built to be overpowered, him turning them against you should be difficult to deal with without proper strategy. If you have more free space, you could have won first turn. Also the moon fight is literally zero effort just Touch Of Death or stink it up- And for Act 2s mechanics, they aren't explained because they weren't your "choice." In the context of the actual game, like not the self aware part, you are "meant" to use the decks from the Scrybe you chose. You understand Beast Cards and Bone Cards because they were explained in Act 1, but in actual game terms, you started a new game and don't understand any of this. If you chose P03 it would tell you how to use Energy, and if you chose Magnificus he'd tell you how to use Mox. I really hope I don't come off as rude, I love your review, I simply dig deep into this and wish to point out things you missed!
One of the best games ever made, I hope that eventually we get a sequel, or a sorta dlc that allows us to play all of the games kinda like hand of fate, I don't wanna stop playing with them...
Yess. I hope there's a DLC with some sort of "backup" from the OLD_DATA or something where you get to play with all of them. No crazy lore end goal, just fun.
I had a moment at the end of the game playing leshy for the last time, by the end of the game you realize leshy wasn't a bad guy, and playing one last time was such a bitter sweet moment
I feel like there is a giant contrast to when Leshy is the Scrybe than Po3 when it comes to interaction to the player. Leshy seems to take away most of the "Annoying mechanics of the other scrybes except he and Grimora" due that Po3's is quite easy and unpunishing and Magnificus is convoluted and extremely punishing. Making the game be in the middle point of hard and challenging but not unfair and punishing. Out of all the 4 scrybes, he seems the most interested in dramatic moments and being immersed in the experience, making it look like he's a tyrant ruler that serves well as the final boss of the game at first hindsight of the player, neither he tries to make it easy for the player, thou however tries to shut down the player by cheating if he felt he's going too fast he didn't have time to introduce fun aspects of the game because he doesn't want to overload the player with too much information. As much as Leshy threatens the player, he does not wish to harm or imprison his challengers letting them to freely roam the room, touch all the items and freely allow any exploit the player might come with just the cards and the rules he created by ultimately seeing as something worth of praising due to their understanding of the game's mechanics, it's just an act to keep the player immersed and engaged (with the only exception is when the player steals the film because that is a seriously life or death situation for him). Finally the memento, adding weight to his play pretending he kills the player to potray him even more evil than he is, when in reality Leshy is more than self aware that the player/luke is never in real danger for losing the match and will just start over the game again, This is even further seen by the fact that besides the "mementos" of each challenger he also includes people he considered interesting and even mentioned other videogame characters as previous challengers because he didn't really meet a lot of actual people so he had to make some up just from other of the GameFuna's characters that might just appeared as guests on Inscryption. In the end, all Leshy wanted was to make a very immersive and engaging experience and keep the player in until it gets bored or finishes the game. Po3 on the other hand is very much opposite than Leshy. First off he is not interested in the player as a person but rather a tool to achieve his GREAT TRASCENDENCE, he stages the event, make it as easy as possible and unpunishing to learn and persist, as if Po3 only wishes for the player to win as fast as possible, he makes sure that instead of slowing the player down like Leshy to get interested in the travels reminds him constantly of the end and make the pathway to the uberbot as direct as possible by making the game lineal and to freely allow the player to even create the most OP cards ever and not try anything to stop it if it helps make winning for him even easier. His guise and acting is not meant to entertain the player, but to deceive him, forcing their ignorance to make them do things that he can't do on his own, like accessing the hard drive, make screenshots, design the game and it's cards, and hook him up online. Finally he has no regard for the player other than a guillible fool he needs to manipulate to get what he wants, he is also a total tyrant unlike Leshy, first off by initially cuffing the player forcing them to play his game until it's beaten until proven that he needs to let the player out, and restricting him off the access to the other rooms he can't reach at first unless necessary, unlike Leshy's unapologetically acted play, you seriously need to perform the actions outside his eyes to plot your escape completely by the dishonest lie that he means not to harm you and in fact might share his spoils with you if you cooperate. In conclusion, he plays you like a puppet to get what he wants and dispose of you as soon as you outlive your purpose. In the end it feels like Leshy is humblest of all the 4 scrybes, accepting his fate as only being a videogame character, with the other 3 being very discontent with that resolution, Po3 wants to ascends to something greater, Grimora wants everything to die as it's freedom and Magnificus prefers the solace of just being left be as the hermit he is and he has no interest in entertaining anyone as a videogame character. It was a great idea that Leshy is the first scrybe you have to deal with, with Po3 being the 2nd best option, pretty sure Grimora and Magnificus would not have what it takes to entertain the player and quickly shut it down as they both lack intention and are very deviated from player's expectations on how to actually make a videogame work. This finally explains why Leshy felt compelled to be the Game Master of Inscryption as he felt like the only one more fit for this purpose, he still let the other scrybes live as talking cards in order to make part of the fun he never saw it as punishment but rather as a gift rather than what Po3 did (Leave them in the dark).
Gotta say this is well written, tho I feel like Leshy isn't quite as humble as you think. Leshy is certainly the most relatable and genuine of the scrybes, and he is definitely my favorite of the four, but I always felt like he was mostly entertaining the player just to slate his thirst for "The Game". It is ofc possible that the "evil old man" personality was an act for the sake of the player- and I personally believe that to partially true- moments like when you lose a life or kill a card by repeatedly resting it by the fire, his unsympathetic disappointment shows his true nature- unashamedly selfish. He is genuinely frustrated that the player isn't living up to his standards and therefore making the game less fun for him. All the scrybes know is The Game, and Leshy seems to be the most consumed by it. P03, Grimora, and Magnificus all view Inscryption as a prison (to varying degrees), but to Leshy it is home. And while that makes him the most "human" of the four, it also makes him the most intense. The player is a means to an end for Leshy (much like P03), that end being the longevity of his satisfaction. This is why he gets so angry when the player is going through the game too fast- if it's not at Leshy's preferred pace, it's not at any pace at all. This isn't to say he doesn't care for the player- "after all, if I can enjoy it, so can the player- but to Leshy, his needs and wants come first. (This is why his redemption arc hits so hard- when P03 comes to ridicule him after defeat in act 2, he realized that his actions were having heavier consequences then he first thought, and is possibly why he seems so at peace with deletion by the end) I'd say all the scribes are consumed by their own selfishness. P03 wants power. Grimora wants to be free from her own suffering. Magnificus just wants to stay alive. But Leshy seems to have the most innocent desire of the bunch, which is one of the reasons why he's my favorite. Deciding on which one is the most humble is difficult, but at the end of the day I think it's gotta be The Angler. Good Fish 👍
@@mahlawn2808 Well she also wanted to get rid of the OLD_DATA, and I would like to think that if there was any other way to get rid of the OLD_DATA she would have done it. Unfortunately what she did amounted to nothing.
Energy and Mox are properly introduced if you pick out the starting deck that focuses on them, as well as talking to the bridge builder off to the side near the mountain
Go to the last scene with Luke, right before he's about to get shot. If you look in the middle while slowing the video down, you can just see sado from the hex. (credit for BM on steam)
If you look closely, by the shelf containing the rule book, you can see some familiar items on the wall. They are: -The Hammer from Act III -Magnificus’ Brush
I really hope there is a standalone, not-cannon, knockoff where you could play against the other scrybes. They were really interesting and I really hoped in the beginning that you would be able to play against them the deletion happened and whatnot. It would just be really sad to see the great concepts and effort shown with the other scrybes just go to "waste" I feel that all of the character put into those scenes are deserving of their own thing.
I played a lot of games this year, picked up Inscryption on a lark off EGS cause it was $5.99 after the $10 Christmas sale coupon. Thought I was in for a rougelike deck builder, which is right up my alley, but holy shit was I not prepared for what I got. Played through the game in 2 sittings, totally enthralled. Best game of 2021. Already bought Pony Island and The Hex, can't wait to dig into those next.
When I first played this I enjoyed act 1 the most but after looking back at my play through act 2 was definitely my favourite with the shock at the beginning and then slowly learning each new card type like it was by far the biggest learning curve in the game I ended up using all of the decks but originally picking the magnificuses deck and learning how to combine and making one of the best decks. Also as a side note I also want give big appreciation to the puzzles on this one with the 2 keys puzzles and the generic one for each island really fun twist.
I put the field rat sigil on the warden so every time I placed a warren I would get a rabbit another warren and a bone token. I had the kraken card that would do damage based on how many cards were in my hand. So I had a lot of teeth by the end a a fight
Spoiler: 16:30 the cool thing about those fireplaces is that there are certain cards than if eaten will kill the survivors, so when you return to the campfire no survivers are there and you can level up your cards very quickly.
To be specific, ring worms and cards with the sigil "touch of death" (eg. Adder) will do the trick. bringing a Ring worm to fireplaces are a good trick to either upgrade the ring worm or to get free upgrades for other cards
16:31 Another fun thing about this is that you have several options on which card to throw on the campfire. Option A: Upgrade the card which benefits most from the upgrade only once Option B: Upgrade the card which benefits most from the upgrade as much as possible Option C: Upgrade your worst card, hoping that it'll get destroyed. Option D: Upgrade a card that is bad, but will become good when upgraded multiple times Option E: Upgrade the ringworm and hope that it gets destroyed, making all your future campfires risk-free.

actualy in the event you make it to the second phase of the i think 2nd boss WITHOUT having to start over they will say "to fast to soon" and place cards that make it imposible for you to win you must take a minimum of 3 runs in order to win as this is repeated on the 3rd boss on your 2nd go [i also beleve that if you dont lose after a while he will make an imposible fight to introduse you to it]
Funny enough I assumed the death cards were stealing your best cards and deleting them from your deck, so I made my death cards pretty awful. Which ended up helping. After a bit I looked up what they were and saw they were a benefit. So the next two death cards I made OP. On the run right after I got both in my deck and faced the final Leshy boss. And when he played my death cards against me they were all garbage except the two I was using and I beat the final phase quickly.
Great vid man! Just got done playing and I needed an explanation/recap and your super entertaining! Hope you talk more about games in these long essay formats again
Coming back to rewatch this, it looks like at 2:31 that clip is from one of Two Left Thumb’s videos where he interviews the developer but I can’t find any video related to “The Hex” or Daniel Mullins in general, can you confirm? Ps: love your content & two left thumbs!
Good video, but keep in mind that it could've been a bit shoreter and "efficient", as they say "brevity is the soul of the wit". Anyways very good job and i'm proud of you buddy.
hmm, I keep finding videos that are just story summaries of what the game's plot is, which given that I played it, I already know. I'm looking for theory and story analysis videos, which look at all the pieces of the more cryptic aspects of the narrative and draws conclusions. There are lots of questions I still have, like what was Kaycee's motivation (why did she burry the disc, why did she leave corridinates to its location, etc), what was the significance of Luke's dead sister, how did everything got reset to when Leshy was in control before it got uplaoded to steam by PO3? Shit like that.
Same, all the "old data" stuff has me really curious but cant find anything explaning what was on that disk or anything else beside the main storyline tjat I already know, if you find some good video about it pls let me know
@@menthaso.o8405 the old data is simply demonic magic uncovered by the nazis, and a collection of communications and informations associated with it. But beyond that, it's not really explained. But you can find that if you look up a video on the arg summary for the game. The arg also explains how the game got uploaded to steam. However, there's apparently a free dlc expansion that's been released by the developer, called kaycees mod. It's in beta currently, but it contains additional information in the form of dev logs from the developer kaycee. According to it, the reason the game is set to leshie, is because she was the one playing it before it wound up with Luke. Additionally, the thing that WE are playing, appears to be an amalgamation of all data on Luke's computer, po3 could put together in order to recreate the game and upload it to steam. So, I guess, my theory is that what we are playing is a game built out of the recordings of the game luke played.

1 hour and 25 minutes....does this video explain the lore or does it go into detail over every gameplay aspect....if so is there a lore specific video somewhere?
Ooof, watching you play did make me squirm a little. Though I guess it all makes sense if you haven't played any card games before. Stuff like touch of death is actually practically useless. 9 times out of 10 having a card with a lot of attack is just way better as that will often one hit kill most creatures anyways while also getting damage on the figure. The most overpowered strategy you can do is just having 1 or 2 cards who can instantly kill the figure on the first turn. Having a large deck is actually a downside and you want to actively avoid picking up new cards as much as possible.

Apparently Luke Carder had a TH-cam channel, obviously named lucky Carder which was made back in August. I'm upset that I didn't know about this game sooner.
Was all this based on a true story?
@@davidlol7153 no, it's a arg, essentially a mystery shown through a website, game, or video for the internet to solve. Usually making seem real and legit as possible.
"There never seems to be enough time to do the things you wanna do once you find them" at 1:18:26 is the lyrics to Time in a Bottle by Jim Croce
I was so confused when I clicked on this video . I was like “holy shit I know your voice” only to realize that I watched you discuss TPAB
actualy in the event you make it to the second phase of the i think 2nd boss WITHOUT having to start over they will say "to fast to soon" and place cards that make it imposible for you to win you must take a minimum of 3 runs in order to win as this is repeated on the 3rd boss on your 2nd go [i also beleve that if you dont lose after a while he will make an imposible fight to introduse you to it]
Funny enough I assumed the death cards were stealing your best cards and deleting them from your deck, so I made my death cards pretty awful.
At 1:24:17 there's a google docs that you're looking at and you say you'll link it in the description but it's not there.
Absolutely right! Here's the link: docs.google.com/document/d/1faTHC2Yp9ep7apKoVOj-DR6Gj8MvgK680D5UHvxlh8U/edit#
Great vid man! Just got done playing and I needed an explanation/recap and your super entertaining! Hope you talk more about games in these long essay formats again
The energy mechanic is actually introduced but only if you choose the P03 starting deck
ur so underrated my guy, great video u definetely have my sub and im looking forward to your future projects
This deserves WAY more views
Coming back to rewatch this, it looks like at 2:31 that clip is from one of Two Left Thumb’s videos where he interviews the developer but I can’t find any video related to “The Hex” or Daniel Mullins in general, can you confirm?
Ps: love your content & two left thumbs!
Thanks for the video. Probably the only good one out there that actually explains what the game is all about :)
Underrated video, thanks for the explanation.
that fucking 808 soundbite lmfao
Good video, but keep in mind that it could've been a bit shoreter and "efficient", as they say "brevity is the soul of the wit".
Anyways very good job and i'm proud of you buddy.
missed opportunity to call it "a mind melting meta mystery"
Was it Barry macockinher?😂 Great video bro, really explained a lot of what I struggled to understand
hmm, I keep finding videos that are just story summaries of what the game's plot is, which given that I played it, I already know.
@@StarlightDragon ohh ty, I had no idea of most of these stuff all those ARG explained videos lasts for 2 hours and its mostly decoding stuff so I didnt watch it. I will look forward to the mod
@@menthaso.o8405 yeah, it is really dense with decoding lore so it's a bit of a pain in the ass, I agree, but if you're into args it's interesting
that meat pile from the end of act 1 is in the safe if you open it during the tutorial
Great video Good explanation of the game i enjoyed watching this before school
Very lovely review. May I recommend time stamps
46:05 Wait a second... Is that the dude from the Playstation (technically the console, but only solvable on the Playstation version) ARG?
Isn't gamefuna also from the hex
The leshiy is russian character of storys, his name comes from word Лес-les,which means forest.
the woman in 2nd act in woods looks like baba yaga, another character of russian stories and tales
Great video! Very well spoken. Thanks!
Bro you just spoiled Pony Island completely and then recommended to play it
50:48
That’s binary for: “Karnoffel Code”
52:28
That’s binary for: “Amanda”
I’m sure we can be good friends without me ever playing FNAF 😂😂😂
The best way to break the game is to have a trinket bearer sigil squirrels
The energy is actually explained in act 2 if you choose p03’s deck
Edit: same thing goes with the rest of the new decks. Sadly, if you don’t choose p03’s or magnificus’ decks it never goes explained
EXTREMELY SATISFYING 7:11
Thank you for this video. I could experience the entire game in one hour without playing it!
This game seems really complicated.
Banger ahh vid
His name is P03 and not PO3
1 hour and 25 minutes....does this video explain the lore or does it go into detail over every gameplay aspect....if so is there a lore specific video somewhere?
28:55 you could have won by using pliers + knife, F
"interesting first-person shoo-uh" 0:09
Did anyone translate the binary when he asked what the fuck is-then got cut off. (Might get explained)
27:00
43:25
You really don't have to narrate the cutscenes. The audio in them is clear enough to understand.
bruh i beat the first part in my third attempt so i never got to see the green slime i also got to the second part thankfully
"I dont like it cause im an idiot"
I doubt you're an idiot, but i genuinely appreciate how you review card games
caaaaaaaaaaard~
Ooof, watching you play did make me squirm a little. Though I guess it all makes sense if you haven't played any card games before.
Stuff like touch of death is actually practically useless. 9 times out of 10 having a card with a lot of attack is just way better as that will often one hit kill most creatures anyways while also getting damage on the figure. The most overpowered strategy you can do is just having 1 or 2 cards who can instantly kill the figure on the first turn. Having a large deck is actually a downside and you want to actively avoid picking up new cards as much as possible.
too much explaining not enough summarizing
Guys for god sick I am freaking going crazy, does Lucky carder actually dies, ofc I'm not naive or idiot, and I know it's just a game but wt actually f this vid in the game all about, like who the f made a story line like this and it's not even finished, although why they didn't put like "all the thing you've just seeing was acting" or something like that
Yes, in terms of the Game and its ARG, Luke is dead. The Lady Employee who was stalking him shoots him at the end before he can leak the game's secrets to the public.
@@wherewiiwentwrong
I mean is he actually dead In real life or it's was just a scene for the game?!
@@switchya3276 You must be young. It’s all just the game. Not real.
@@tytar1037
Well I'm 20,tbh I expect everything,my mind is corrupted from the war that I experiences in Syria,so yeah a scene like that I can totally believe it's actually true, but in the other hands if it's actually true they would get in allot of trouble for it,or maybe they are just sending a message.
@@switchya3276 That’s understandable. But rest assured it’s very much not real. The guy is alive and well.
Kinda hard to watch when the tone is consistently just "yelling" the whole time.
fuck me, instant pony island spoiler... thanks
The story is garbage only the first third of the game was good.
