Happy New Year to you, too, Fulton. Last year was brutal, but the new year is looking brighter. My bone marrow biopsy results are in my patient portal, and though I don't understand it all, I think it's good news. Peace 🌿 🌿 🌿
Kate, I love your work, and I greatly appreciate you sharing your process. As a beginner, it’s incredibly helpful to me to see that even accomplished artists don’t always get masterpieces with every attempt, and that what may look like a failure often can be turned into a beautiful piece with additional layers. And if not, at the very least there is great information to be gleaned from the process. So please don’t ever feel the need to apologize for any perceived “oopses”. Those often provide the best lessons. ❤
Thanks for your amazing comments about my artwork. I appreciate it very much. Peace 🌿 and stay tuned. I have more coming soon after a long interruption. 🌿🌿
The explorations and lovely textures are delightful. Love your process and wonderful prints. The blue and tan …lovely.( @ 19 min). The brown and black intuitive pallet is wonderful. The Rothko layer is delicious. Wow! Your art teacher was right! Wishing you all the best. Making art can be very healing. So sorry for your loss. Thank you for the wonderful video. So glad I found your channel.
Such a delight to watch you create! You employ such a nice variety of shapes and techniques, results are wonderful. Yes, the lifted paint on the rice paper are rich for collage.
Love your palette and the freedom of your paint application is an eye opener and very exciting! I think I’ll have another go at gelli printing after some recent dispiriting disasters! Can’t wait for tomorrow! Thank you.
Wow, Carys, you really know how to cheer me up! Thank you for such encouraging comments. As a content creator, it's always my hope to help others see that they, too, can create art they love. To me, that's the secret, loving what you do. If you don't, keep working it until you do! Peace 🌿
Thanks for the fun examples. I appreciate the color combos. Maybe next time you could write down more of your colors so you can add that info to your playback info?
I just found you! Yay. You take this to a whole level and BIG. I have an unlimited supply of file folders at work! Haha Bravo to your art teacher for recognizing your black and brown palette.
Great video! Glad to see the energy that is coming through in the work and the dark palette has so much potential with this process. Looking forward to seeing more in the coming year! Happy New Year Kate!!! 🥰🎉
Thanks, Christensen, for your comments. I just got moved to another home and I'm looking forward to setting up my studio for filming new work! Stay tuned! Peace 🌿
Like Fulton says, the ghost always wins! Btw, welcome to S.A.! I've lived here for more than 50 years, so if you're new here, let me know if I can help. Best Thai food in town? Thai Cafe, a humble little place off Nacogdoches run by Lek and her daughters. Great museums - the old Pearl brewery now houses the SA Museum, and the McNay (used to be free, haven't been since covid tho). You probably know all this tho! Anyways, great session!
Love your work and find these videos so inspiring! One question -- it seems like you get a lot more open time with your paints than I do. I am using similar brands, but find they dry on the plate pretty quickly. Any thoughts or suggestions on open / drying time would be appreciated!
Emily, many people ask me that. I can't explain why, other than I'm using heavier body paints. I find Amsterdam acrylics to be great for my purposes. It's a learning curve for how much paint to use, but I tend to use more than average applications. I work quickly to remove my masks, and I use 💯 % watercolor paper or printmaking papers for absorption & good transfers. Peace 🌿
Thank you, Arabella! My table is a table from Home Depot, covered with 4ml plastic, then a 24"× 36" quarter inch plexiglass. My registration guides are 2 T-squares set to measures for accommodating my 16x20" gelli plate. Here's a link for these: www.amazon.com/dp/B08HWCLV87/ref=cm_sw_r_as_gl_apa_gl_i_S4NEX165SGW75B5QEQ00?linkCode=ml2&tag=katewortart-20. I got the plexiglass from Home Depot also. Hope this helps! Peace 🌿
Can you say what paper you use to pull large format prints? I would love a link as Amazon doesn’t seem to have a range of sizes and assuming Kraft paper rolls aren’t strong enuf ? Tx.
There should be a link below the video in the notes for the items I use. I don't order that much paper from Amazon. Most papers I use come from Dick Blick and I ake advantage of quantity discounts when I can. Kraft paper isn't strong enough for this kind of printmaking. Perhaps on a small plate for collage papers, but this kind of pulling needs a stronger paper. Here's an Amazon link, but pricey. amzn.to/3IGc3hQ Dick Blick link: www.dickblick.com/items/blick-watercolor-paper-22-x-30-single-sheet/
I just heard you say cold pressed fabriano or blick but to clarify, I mean posters that are uneven edges… or larger like 4x6? I think you’re saying watercolor is good but is photo paper, inkjet? Bond all workable?
Susan, If you mean 4x6 feet, you'd have to find paper on a roll. Amazon does have a mixed media paper on a roll. It may be Strathmore, I'm not sure. I've used cold & hot press watercolor paper or printmaking paper. The importance is the fiber content for paint absorption. You'll get best results with 100% cotton papers. There are cotton w cellulose that work but not always with best results, but they are usually student grade and cheaper. If you want to use inkjet copy papers, you'll get good collage paper results on a small plate 8x10 or smaller. I don't recommend photo papers. All these papers I'm using in these larger format prints are 22x30" single sheets, some with deckled edges, some with straight. You'll need to experiment lots to find what you prefer according to the size of your plate & paint you're using. I hope this helps. I'm sorry for any confusion. Peace 🌿
Hi Judith! Thanks for your beautiful comments! His name is Paco. He and his sister, Chula, are a year old and rescue kitties from the Cattery in Corpus Christi TX. Peace 🌿
I used Fabriano hot press, but I ran out, and now I'm using Blick watercolor paper, which I'm really liking. 100% cotton is the key to good printmaking results.
Please, when you say your work is not so great, or you don't like a pull, you are prejudicing our view negatively. We nay lovr it or be inspired. Love to you.
Thank you, Christine, I never thought of it that way. I'm just expressing my impressions or expectations not met. But I get what you're saying. I'll get better. Peace to you.
@KateWordArt my comment in no way was intended to demean the ongoing struggles with disappointments routinely experienced in the studio, especially for me, with the unexpected results in gel printmaking. Thanks, I am inspired by your work.
Happy New Year Kate! 🎉❤ Wishing you good health and creative power! ❤❤❤

Thank you. I Also love your patterns on manila folders.
why do you spray with alcohol. Is it a different effect from water?
Yes, Claudia, it disperses the pigment differently, maybe a little more motley...try it, you'll see. Thanks for your question. Peace 🌿
