More and more, I am realizing that minimalism is more about prioritizing what I value, rather than how little things I can own...at first, I was obsessed with becoming the 'perfect minimalist,' but now, I try to find a version of minimalism that meets my unique needs.

@Chloe's Crazy Life I agree with both you and Victoria. I shouldn't judge myself by how few things I own and be unhappy about it; but rather I should happy that I'm on the journey to owning fewer things and loving the things that I do own.

In other words if you are artist, its difficult to be minimalist, because artist like to combine the variations....but some say chaos is actualy order.

Well, minimalism definitely helped me save more money. I'm not spending it on fast fashion anymore, not buying a pretty thing the moment I lay my eyes on it. Still have a lot to declutter though.. it's a work in progress 😊

I am JUST starting out in my minimalism journey and this is so relatable to me!!! I am a maximalist at heart but I'm finding how much joy minimizing my things is bringing me! I've already really minimized my personal care and a lot of my wardrobe. I'm now starting to do the same in other areas of my house. It's quite a process but is awesome!

Being obsessed with how many things you own is against the idea of minimalism, IMO, which can become an obsession within itself and cause anxiety and perfectionism. For myself, being a minimalist is about having "just enough" that you are not mastered by either your possessions or your obsessions...but finding peace and prioritizing and focusing on what is truly important in your life. Sometimes I prefer the label "Essentialist" instead of "Minimalist".

Victoria: I was born a minimalist; I started decluttering at age two. I would line up my toys in the hallway and tell my mom to donate them. As I got older, I would tell my mom to donate my beautiful church dresses to the Salvation Army. I wanted other children to feel pretty and happy when they went to church or another special occasion like a birthday party. I would secretly throw out no longer used or loved items in the garbage collection. When my depression became severe, I turned to thrift store and online shopping. I now prioritize my spending and continue with decluttering on a regular basis. Is it difficult to follow a minimalist philosophy when you are naturally a maximalist? I admire your minimalist journey. I am happy and joyful that adopting a minimalist lifestyle has brought you peace and calm.

I love the fact that you’re following the philosophy instead of the extremes of minimalism. Life is beautiful when there is a balance. I appreciate your video because you’re not getting rid of everything (in the name of minimalist), you are keeping a balance, you’re keeping things that you value.

This is such a good reminder, none of us are perfect. We are all on separate and personal journeys. I'm currently starting out minimalism with just using what I have and consuming less. Thank you for this beautiful video!

I love your content and what you create. Everything you put out is beautiful and intentional. I always take something important from your videos. Be gentle to yourself because I think you’re surely on the right path. Recently I’ve started to do my research on minimalism. Like you I’m a maximalist.. Specifically with clothes because fashion is a big part of my lifestyle. However I’ve learned it’s not about being a perfect minimalist but rather, valuing what’s the most important to me. Basically having a minimalist mindset to everything. Such as clothing/fashion. As long as I have more of a sustainable and minimalist mindset to the things around me that’s what matters the most. I’m starting to declutter and although I have a long way to go being a maximalist, I already feel my anxiety and comfort of attachment go away. P.s. I love your choices of clothing pieces 😍

Encouraging and inspirational video! Thank you, Victoria :) As you say, it's important to not compare oneself to others but to focus on one's one path and progress. I, too, feel that minimalism (once I get there) will help me to live more mindfully and with more intention. Actually, it already has had a positive impact by making me more aware of the essential things, and helping me to say "no" to things that don't really matter. Also, you inspired me to buy Fumio Sasaki's book. Excited to start reading it soon

Thank you for your thoughtful message! It really resonated with us. We recently posted our moving vlog and skincare inventory, and got some comments that we own too much. Granted, we are still at an early stage of our minimalism journey, we still very much appreciate the minimalism philosophy and strive to change our old habits in terms of shopping, time management and personal relationship. :)

My boyfriend and I are definitely maximalists. We love things that way. We prefer things around us our home feels homely that way. I find minimalist homes look bare and clinical. Each to their own though. I do find minimalism videos helpful when I do want to be inspired to declutter though. Which is something I do periodically. It's nice to get rid of some old stuff and have a tidy home. Yes we have a lot of things but everything has its place. I love books especially and he loves dvd's and c.d's. So we have allot of those. It's been useful to pass the time during the pandemic.

This is very encouraging! I've started my journey to minimalism 2 years ago. I would like to believe that I've already gone so far since I used to have and keep sooooo many things just because. It's a bit disheartening though when I watch other minimalists on TH-cam since their kind of minimalism is the one I have the expectation and assumption of, of what minimalism looks like. But I now know I just have to accept that this is an ongoing process for me, and not all minimalism looks the same. It's not all about the number of things we own. For me, it's about knowing what I value in my life and cherishing them. Anyway, thank you for yet another beautiful video! Your content and filming and editing style really inspire me 💖

Thinking that minimalism is about how many things exactly one own is too simplistic. Minimalism is so much more than that... for me it is a state of mind where you are always looking for what your own needs are in the present moment, which means that things and thoughts will always be changing, you keep the essential ones in any state of your life, and that change is the beauty That continuos learning process that I call life :-). So minimalism for me would be a tool, a mental guide line for saying good bye to things, thoughts, circumstances, persons... when you not longuer serve each other's fullfillment, happiness or personal needs at that moment. Sometimes it is a good bye forever, others life will bring you together again in one or another way...

Oh darling, maximalist is an aesthetic and an art movement. It's about colourful, joyful designs, unexpected fun pairing of things, about breaking these boring unnecessary rules imposed on us.
Being a clutter, hoarder or having poor time management skills is not the same as being a maximalist.
Also maximalist don't necessarily own more things. It's just that the things they own are more diverse in comparison to the sea of beige and gray you'd find in a minimalist's environment. :)
