I really like the pedal. It sounds very good for $30. The top boost feature works well too. I like to play with 2 or 3 amps blending voices, dry and wet, fat and thin. This pedal does scooped midrange very well with a very credible metal voicing. Suits my Ampeg VH140C perfectly as a ‘third channel’ alternative to the amp’s overdrive channel. It’s distinctly different and works well with the low-gain overdrive of the amp’s second channel.
I have a VH140C dirty channel in my Crate VTX 250-watt head. What's interesting to know is this preamp and the Crate Flexwave-5's both came from Lee Jackson. I also have plenty of Flexwave-5 amps and while they sound near identical to the VH140C assuming it has the midrange and not just shape control, the Flexwave-5's actually do the VH140C sound a bit better. *I'm literally an electronics engineer, not a DIY hobbyist, and having looked at the schematics the Flexwave-5 is a more advanced version of what the VH140C has.* All that said, the EQ response and general flow of all controls is smoother and much richer in the VH140C. *Just some food for thought when someone likes Lee Jackson's work.* I have 6 of his solid-state amps lol.
*I just want something with enough solid-state grind to "toughen" up the distortion on my valve heads.* I'm literally an electronics engineer and can design and build equipment well beyond what is sold commercially including from boutiques, *but I scored this for $21 including shipping!* I'll get busy in the lab and ideally, the day will come in another year where my amps, pedals and other equipment is being sold commercially.

@ you are piquing my interest. I never considered Crate amps before and really like my VH

What if the treble was turned down to remove the "unbearable" hiss? Oh well.
