I was in America in 81 on a school trip. We had the specials , Kim wilde, the jam. First night in the states we had a gathering and they were playing led Zeppelin, journey. The Brits could not believe the kids wanted their parents music
Yo, many of the bands that later got a bit over commercial had some brilliant first minor hits. Not only H17, Boomtown Rats had Banana Republic, Spandau Ballet Chant No 1 (Thinking of that title, would it have inspired Blur for Song #2?) Simple Minds even, now mostly remembered for Don't you forget, Waterfront and belfast child, but their early albums are killer, and why play come in/out rain if you have nuggets like Promised you a Miracle or New Gold Dream. I feel like screaming this is so good. Loved dancing to it when I was a teenager and still loving it 41 years later. Bands nowadays are just dross compared to the likes of Heaven 17.

Great to watch this band really enjoying what they do and the song actually is quite a political one , the drummer is great ,very tight and great backing from the girls ... Keyboards great and of course vocals amazing .well done everyone,a great production .
First time I heard Martins Heavy keyboard notes on that song back in 1981 (Penthouse and Pavement) I was hooked................................. And have been ever since, never tire listening to that song (A snapshot of my youth)
I'm amazed by how fast that drummer hit the drums. You would think that rhythm came from a drum machine, but that was a regular techno-speed beat. Way to Go!
Love this song and this version, Penthouse and Pavement. Also the band name came from the movie Clock Work Orange as quoted by Alex the Droog ..Heaven 17 was a big part of my musical influance
Total Awesomeness! Totally behind it! Best greets from Cologne, Germany. I know why I always loved them. So good to see they are still around. Would love to see them live. At the best in the UK. Stay strong, brothers and sisters. 👊
That’s why we’re going to Holmfirth (Picturedrome) in May, even though we’ve seen her here in Berlin a month beforehand. The atmosphere there is just gigantic and Glenn is just still great

Saw the original line up of Gregory, Ware and Marsh doing a PA, singing to backing tracks in Maestros in Glasgow in the early 80's.Great then, brilliant now!
The Legendary Martin Ware and Glen Gregory from the classic lp "Penthouse and Pavements " and even more legendary "We dont need this fascist groove thing .... could have been written yesterday 😎✌️.
Could be the theme of 2023.
or November 24
This song should make a comeback in 2025.
This synthesizer kills fascists
Incredibly relevant in 2024❤
I was thinking the same.
If anybody ever says to you that 80s bands were rubbish, just show them this. Brilliant.
80s bands were amazing of course, not least Japan with their Tin Drum album from 1981, which is my favourite album of all time.
People who think the 80s are rubbish are the same fools who think today is better than the past - laughable. Long live the 80s.
Fabulous
Amazing band 💃🏻…& saw them in in Aberdeen & they didn’t disappoint 😍
!!!
Another perfect example of why British music was so fantastic in the early 1980s.
Not only in Great Britain ! We don't need no fascist groove thang !!!
It was fucking brilliant!! So many bands
Sadly they all wannabe Americans these days, hard to detect any stylistic difference

I just saw The Sound of Sheffield documentary, a must see for fans of Heaven 17, ABC, Human League et al. So great to see this clip!
What a powerhouse performance. Heaven 17 still got it.
I can't believe it's been 30 years, but they still sound excellent!
Banned by BBC Radio 1 in the 80s, now being recorded by BBC Radio 6.
3 decades behind the groove...
And never more pertinent today
Please don't deny the BBC their hypocrisy. Always remember that they know better than you, and tax you for knowing it.
WOW!
@@kristinshelor155 Reagan sorted out Russia. He was America's Maggie and one of the best Presidents ever.

Meaningful song for dreadful times! Stay strong people !!!!
Can't believe how good they still are!
After so many years, they've still got that groooove thaaaaaang!
I remember dancing myself dizzy on a loop of this.

What a song. Stands tall in any timeframe
This should be declared the International Anthem of all time!
David Watermeyer Agreed. So many lines are SO applicable today, starting with "History will repeat itself..."
This is absolutely brilliant and I've still got the 45, as good as the day they recorded it!
A timeless tune that just gets better with age. Superb mix guys!
More relevant than ever!
Wow.. GG still has a great voice.. absolutely loved this track.
I'm amazed by how fast that drummer hit the drums. You would think that rhythm came from a drum machine, but that was a regular techno-speed beat. Way to Go!
Watch the live version of Transmission by Joy Division. Stephen absolutely kills it on the drums.
It's 2020 and still sounds good
This. Ground breaking. "Penthouse and Pavement" should be your next move.

Best version of this song 😍
Nice one, Gregory's voice is still strong
Excellent, glad he's still around. Best times of life in the 80's. Democrats are now in power and we have Senile Biden.

Blimey! This is great mate!!! Heaven 17 still kicks ass!
GREAT!!!!!!!!!!! I played the shit out of this song back then.
The drummer is fit ;) I told that to Glen ...he lives with his wife and dog down the road from me near camden
the classic track to dance and get off your face in the 80's. thanks for the memories
Some of us just danced and didn't need to get off our faces in the 80,s as you say ;)
This should be the Harris-Walz campaign theme song. Very fitting.

New Wave Revival bands would be great. I hope I see stuff like it when shows come back
Reagan's president-elect - tells you how old this is! But still worth listening to, music-wise and lyric-wise.
Sublime & just about note perfect 30+ years on........
This is just GREAT.... I have so many great memories... of copying this keyboard stab....
Awesome! Awesome! Awesome! I remember buying this album.
The song hasn't gotten older.
Still powerful after all these years
He looks great, sounds amazing. One of my faves.
The first few bars and I though this is not sounding too good but then it kicked in and Heaven 17 were back!
