This movie will always have a special place in my heart. Because of the time it was filmed which was such a wonderful time in my life to the meaning and overall story. Loved Candy in this. His best work
I would say this was Hughes best movie and no doubt one of Candy's and Martin's best performances. Scott our friend, Thanks for showing us this. We spent time with Del Griffith. Peace Out✌🚀
I just recently got to watch this movie right here on youtube! And I loved it, two legendary actors in a legendary filmmakers movie, made it an instant classic! I teared up at the ending though, quite emotional!

Another great recap of another fave. Fun fact, you may or not recall I'm from Ontario, well once uat so was John Candy years ago a buddy was driving down the road in the small town of Newmarket Ontario where John had a home and he sees John beside him in a car at a stop light, trying not to display too much excitement for fear of looking like a complete idiot he smiled at John Candy who in return who gave him a big smile and a nod of the head. A very classy guy and true story
John Hughes was the bomb for movies! As was John Candy, SUCH an awesome guy--the real article, what you see is what you get! I heard one of his friends I believe, say he was kind to a fault. I've never heard anyone say anything bad about him. This is one of my all-time faves, I watch every Thanksgiving. And The Great Outdoors every summer. SO many quotes from these great movies! I enjoyed this tremendously, I've not seen anyone else do this one. Thanks Scott, this was great!
John Candy and Steve Martin at their zenith as comedic performers. While not one of my personal favourites in the John Candy movie catalogue. This is undoubtedly the foundation for Chris Farley's 'Tommy Boy' which came later. For us devoutly Canadian John Candy fans, this movie is a gift to remember.
Hey Scott, you were almost there... The train station scene was not shot in Wilmette, instead it was shot @ the Woodstock Metra Station. In the early 2000's, I used to visit a coffee shop in the station that occupied the waiting room area where the scene was filmed. @ that time, the same double doors that can be seen behind Steve Martin & the light fixture hanging from the ceiling were still there.
I was there on the corner when the scene in Madison, OH was shot, I grew-up in that town. One of my favorite films as well, thanks for taking the time to put this together!
Another classic movie with 2 awesome actors, Steve Martin and The late John Candy, one of the best movies, so funny especially at the airport, Your Fxxked. 😂😂🤣🤣✌️🤟🏼
You keep out doing yourself Scott. Great job on this movie location video. Planes, trains and automobiles is my all time favorite. Such a classic movie. Keep up the great work.

I thought I was the only person who had the car rental scene memorized! I remember watching this movie as a kid and wondering why it was so cold during Thanksgiving. I live in Canada and our Thanksgiving is the second week in October I didn’t realize it was in late November in the U.S. Thank you for doing this video it was great to see all those locations!
Great research and very engaging content. Enjoy your channel and I'm a big fan and collector of Planes, Trains and Automobiles memorabilia. This video should have way more than 47k views!!
I happy to hear NYC preserves the old buildings! We have an older section in my city(Winnipeg) called the exchange district, and it is known for its "heritage" buildings. Many movie companies shoot there, and we almost had "Legends of the Fall" shot here, but the city refused to remove some trees they didn't want. Thanks as always for feeding my inner nerd. I love your videos! : )
I live in Woodstock, Illinois.... So cool that you were here Scott! And, yes we get tons of tourists wanting to see all the Groundhog Day locations. I don't think as many people know this wonderful movie also had scenes shot here! They are shooting a Sissy Spacek Amazon series here now and have been for most of the summer. Thanks for doing these Scott!

This is one of my favorite films of all time. What's even better 2 of my favorite Comedians ever were in it. Thanks for doing this Scott. Loved the video a lot.
Great video. Just found this a year later. Getting ready to watch the movie for Christmas--I didn't get to watch it for Thanksgiving. I live about an hour away from Braidwood, IL, and I had to stop off to see the motel used in move. I was glad to see that the stone wall was still there, it was about the only thing that looked the same. I had no idea that the motel was used for the interior shots as well. I always stop off in Woodstock as well, mainly because of Groundhog Day but I knew about the brief scene in Planes and Trains as well.
Thanks so much Scott. This one meant a lot to me. I grew up in in a town called Evanston and it is right next door to Wilmette to the south. I grew up in and around that area. This video really made me both smile and homesick all at the same time thank you so much. Cheers, Tracy. ♥️😎✈️🚃🚗

Great video with so much work gone into it. Well played,Sir! I always loved that shot of the Chicago skyline from the Highway as the red truck is taking Neil & Del to the train station.
Thanks for spending the time and effort to track down these locations, I will say in the same way you were questioning the train station I will agree that it has changed a lot as the old building looked mostly wooden and the new only the that high ceiling. I would guess in the over thirty years that if they filmed it there it is now a newer building as too many things have been changed but that would be in line with making it more modern and energy efficient and less maintenance needed being brick not wood. Also when you were at the train station where it had a ramp now instead of a platform it is mostly due to the laws about making things more accessible for the handicapped. It looks to have some type of scenic train rides from that station still which is a small town common thing.
Beautiful coverage! The Edie McClurg scene is what made it "R" because they F bombed 15 times. lol I saw you doin Owen. I can't believe you found these places. I'm from the area and at the time I thought it sucked. The winters. and parkas and getting stuck and bar life getting beat up. unemployment. This made it better. Entertaiment defies economy.
Planes, Trains and Automobiles is one of my all time favourite films. Thanks so much for doing this and letting us see where this amazing film was made, a wonderful video 🥰
I remember when they were shooting in Lambert Airport in St. Louis---I was 12 and we were in the middle of moving from St. Louis to Chicago and my mom and I were taking a lot of flights. Ironically, after moving, my parents' friends lived in the Kenilworth neighborhood where Neil Page's house was. That movie takes me right back to places I recognize and remember in both Missouri and Illinois. Note: they edited out a portion of the film where Neil and Del accidentally drive too far up into Wisconsin, which is why the trooper (played by Michael McKean) who pulls them over (which in the continuity of the film as edited should be in Illinois) is a Wisconsin trooper.
Great movie. I have it in my collection. I think you make among the best filming locations videos. Even add in movie clips to line everything up. I appreciate all the long traveling and work you put into these.
Your awesome! You did an amazing job oh and we can hear you just fine when those trucks go by you on the road while your recording. 🤗 just wanted to let you know. Duder, you make EXCELLENT filming location videos. I am a TWD filming location fan myself. Constructive Criticism: less random talk ("oh, my keys in my pocket"/"I hate semis"/"Here comes the choo-choo! Choo-Choo!" Look buddy, love your endurance, love your commitment. Kill the silliness. Stick to the facts, chief. Best on you!
