  • Hi everyone, I decided to summarize the Kamen Rider Faiz novel as best as I could.
Some things I forgot to include in my summary/some notes I wanted to share:
    1) When Mari and Takumi visit Saya for the first time, she glances at a picture of her and her boyfriend she broke up with. But it was too quick for her to make out that it was actually Kusaka.
    2) Yuka's backstory is really dark. And she also bullies Keitaro on their dates. Also, she kills humans on the side because she needed to hear their screams.
    3) Saya is the Dragon Orphenoch
    4) Takumi hardly appears in the novel.
    5) Kusaka starts living at Kikuchi Cleaning immediately after he appears as Kaixa.
    6) The novel begins with Mari describing how she hates the snow. The novel ends with her loving the snow, since Takumi reawakens when it starts to snow.
    7) I mentioned it in the video, but there's a Five-Years Later story that undoes the novel's ending.
    8) No form changes.
    9) And yes, Kusaka survives with no limbs and no jaw.
    10) Yusuke is, if it wasn't obvious, Keitaro and Yuka's child and is named after Yuji.
If you have any other questions, I'll be happy to answer them.

Yeah... Right after Mari starts reflecting on why she's "with" Kusaka, the novel starts telling us about Kusaka's backstory to try and make us feel sorry for him.

@@ayakuweb Then Kiba goes "I don't care, homie" and proceeds to torture the shit out of Kusaka until he's almost dead and then (spoiler alert to whoever is reading, because the epilogue will probably be in the next video!), Kusaka's forced to live his miserable existence until his "caretaker" dies and he succumbs in a pile of his own shit and larvas crawling on his wounds (unfortunately, he comes back as a Orphnoch little after his death, but at least he ends up getting bodied by Takumi once for all).
Anyways, at least Kusaka gets to suffer in the novel, something quite satisfying; i feel like i could read an entire book just about Kusaka going through hell and still be rewarded by nothing, but death.

To conclude the extra five year time-skip chapter; Takumi and Kaido disappear a few days-week after Christmas, presumably their body has reached their limits and wanted to find a peaceful place to pass away, while Keisuke moved to Africa to help his parents with the laundry business there, leaving Mari alone to care for Yusuke. Because of his human-orphnoch blood, Yusuke grew rapidly.
Saya body reached her limit and she dies next to Kusaka, who is now a deformed human. Unable to do anything by himself, Kusaka dies from starvation and reborn as the Spider Orphnoch, with his body fully restored to it's original state.
The government exposes the existence of Orphnoch to the masses, where they mass produced Kaixa gear to hunt and kill all Orphnoch. Fearing Yusuke life in danger, Mari forbids him from leaving the house, where he grew really fast and shows huge intellect, but retrain his child naivety, he sometimes sneak out to learn more about the world and the tugging feeling on the shared "spiritual" connection with his own mother before her death. He encounters the Kaixa corps fighting Orphnochs. He has subconscious hatred towards them because his mother was murdered by them while he was in her womb. until one day he met with Kusaka where he starts to manipulate him, unaware that he's the killer of his mother. He began to help Orphnoch and hunt the Kaixas by transforming into an powerful golden being that's not human nor Orphnochs.
The organization caught wind over it. They approached Mari and asked to give Yusuke away to study him under the pretense of being the "bridge" between humans and Orphnochs, and saving his short "lifespan." Mari reluctantly agrees for the sake of Yusuke and humanity, and Yusuke goes along with it for the Mari's sake. Later, Mari remembers the promise she made with Takumi, "to live strong", and she changed her mind and rush towards the Kaixa corp car who was carrying Yusuke at the time to give him back to her, they refuses and hurt Mari in the process, Yusuke got angry and retaliated at the Kaixas trying to kill him. After dealing with them, Mari apologizes to Yusuke, and Kusaka (now Orphnochs) appears and attacked Yusuke. Yusuke passed out, and Kusaka kidnapped Mari towards Orphnoch infested area. Kusaka now insane, are planning to kill and transform Mari into an Orphnochs as well so they can be together.
At deaths door, Yusuke suddenly realized his late mother love and Keitarou's. And realized that Keitarou is his father and decided to carry over his ideals, he reawakens and rushed to save Mari, which is like a mother figure to him.
Yusuke interrupted Kusaka, and he fought against multiple Orphnochs, suddenly Takumi arrives, transformed into Faiz and killed Kusaka and saved Mari. Having pushed his body past its limit, he de-transforms and slowly carried Mari away while his body slowly breaking into ashes. Yusuke took the Faiz gear, transformed, and protected the both Takumi and Mari, with now Yusuke taking the Faiz mantle and finding his purpose in life.
Mari asked Takumi to put her down, and decided to walk her own path by her own legs without having to rely on others, the two walked away into the light holding each other hands. just like in the Paradise Lost ending, only now that Takumi is presumably dies after that.

What in the grand...hell? Also, I like it how Toei tries to find ways to let Kusaka diminish his ultimate fate from the original toku with stuff like Kamen Rider Taisen showa vs Heisei where Kusaka keeps haunting Takumi just to assert his evil on him and feel guilt for someone who's literally as bad as the monsters they faced or Kamen Rider Zi-O where Takumi and Kusaka are friends despite them literally on odds majority of the time.
Overall, characters like these and Asakura are great examples that not every Rider is a good guy which most of the time in recent seasons like Saber and Revice, majority of them where just as bad as previous villains but were redeemed for dumb reasons. It could have gotten to much more interesting points where they became worst parts of humanity just to showcase what the hero should NOT be.
Zero-One may have gotten a lot of the Riders to be on the side of justice at the end but the V-Cinema does show there's still a possibility that one wrong step can literally make an already uneasy truce broken.
Also, mass produced Kaixas seem to be more efficient than the Riotroopers. Hehe...they never stood a chance.
    6:07, a fitting end to a creep.

See my thing on this with Kusaka in Kamen Rider Taisen is they probably wanted to do something with Yuji Kiba, but the issue is that his actor, Masayuki Izumi, around the time of 2014 was going in and out of the hospital for his illness before passing a year later in 2015.
Especially as on paper Yuji would've been an easy swap in as he gave his life so that Takumi could beat the final boss in season, and probably would've had a nicer ending as Yuji probably would've told Takumi that it's fine and he had no regrets dying. It's just too bad it would've been impossible for the actor.

I don't even know what to say about this novel.
I thought it was a cool concept but good lord,it's just...ugh,it's too much for Kamen Rider
    I never thought I'd see Kusaka r@ping Mari,many times too.Disgusting
Plus,it feels too...off.The story doesn't feel as fleshed out and as satisfying as the TV Show.
The only good thing that I can say about the novel is Kusaka not only getting tortured by Kiba for what he did,but also getting offed by Takumi himself. That, actually felt really good to know
I'm so glad that the novel is non-canon cuz man, this is just not it.Good thing there IS a good non-canon Faiz called "Paradise Lost",that one is actually good

The Infamous faiz novels, a mystery of sumaries on the interwebs for decades

  • @tornadofang7663
    @tornadofang7663 ปีที่แล้ว +13

First and foremost, I should state that I am going to sound extremely biased with what I am about to say here because Kamen Rider Faiz is my favorite Kamen Rider/TV show of all time, so I am overjoyed to see someone discuss Kamen Rider Faiz, so thank you for making this awesome video. (Also, I apologize for the long message; I have a lot of things I want to say.)
So anyway, my honest opinion on Kamen Faiz Novel is... it's really great! Yeah, I know I am going to sound insane when I say that, especially considering what some of the characters have gone through like rape, being brutally killed, and having their limbs torn off, but um, hear me out. I personally think it's a very good re imagining of Kamen Rider Faiz, where it removes most of the villain side, such as Smart Brain and Lucky Clover, but in return, it retells or even changes the character's backstory, which adds a lot of depth this time around.
In Kiba's backstory, for example, he used to be a student at an engineering university, and he was so talented at creating blueprints for his works. He lived a happy life with his family and university until he met Nobutaka, a classmate at his university. This bastard ruined Kiba's life; he destroyed Kiba's blueprint due to jealousy, then proceeded to kill Kiba, which in turn caused Kiba to awaken into Horse Orphnoch. Kiba then kills Nobutaka due to Orphnoch's killing instinct controlling him, and by the time Kiba comes to his senses, he sees his parents looking at him in fear, then they abandon Kiba. It's so much different than the TV series where Kiba goes through a 2-year coma after a car accident and is abandoned by his former fiance. Almost all of the character have their backstory retold in darker tone
The best part about these character backstories is that they serve as a backbone to why these characters act the way they do and how their past still affects them in the story. To me, that was very realistic and good on the writing plot in its own way; I can't really compare it to Kamen Rider Faiz TV series since they are kind of built differently; it's almost as if they are different characters that share the same name, especially Takumi. Also with how TV series having more character in it so not all character will get a backstory but in turn the story have a lot of conflict. (I personally like both TV series and Novel equally so when contrasting them I think they are unique in their own way.)
Takumi here feels different, like sure, he's the same standoffish cat tongue guy who help his friend in need, but he's kind of more chill here than in the TV series. He doesn't really want to get involved with others unless they talk to him or he notices something is off. Hell, there is barely any misunderstanding of Takumi and other character unlike in the TV series where Takumi and Kiba or Kusaka fight due to misunderstanding, conflict, etc. Takumi, for the most part, is kind of chill and doesn't really do anything unless it's Orphnoch or Ryusei school. It's kind of insane to think about him as the main character, but like Mari, Keitaro, Kusaka, Kiba, and Yuka, they kind of get more spotlight than Takumi outside the fight scene. Speaking of which, I like the word used to describe the fight scene here. Like sure, there is no other form of vehicle supporting the fight, or form change, or hell, Delta is not even here, but idk, there is something cool about Faiz and Kaixa switching their equipment, like Faiz Shot to Faiz Edge or Kaixa Blaygun to Kaixa Shot.
Okay, this is going to be a hot take, but I don't think the rape scene ruined my experience with the novel. Sure, it's creepy, weird, and brutally tortured but I think the aftermath of that scene and how the story proceeds next is (*in my very personal opinion*) very good. I like the scene where Mari just told Takumi about what Kusaka did to her, and Kiba transforming into Orphoch really shocks her. Then Takumi cheered her up with his own word, which is one of the great character interactions in my personal opinion because I think it is realistic to see Mari broke out of her shell and tell Takumi about her dilemma which I think it a really great Toshiki Inoue's writing. I know it's simple and there's not really much to it, but I think it's a great interaction that really comforting.
Then there is the Yuka death scene, which this time is much more brutal than the TV series despite having a similar vibe; however, this time it was Kusaka and the Kaixa trope that killed her, while she was pregnant and holding Keitaro's son, which in turn changed Kiba into the permanent antagonist by the end of the story, and it was very tragic to see Kiba lose all faith in humanity. Kiba then brutally rips Kusaka apart but Kusaka survive in that condition and Saya take care of his torn body. (This part gets more expanded in Faiz's 5-year epilogue with Kusaka turning into a spider orphnoch, which has some interesting insight).
Kiba and Takumi then confront each other. Kiba then destroyed Faiz's gear and was about to rip Takumi apart, but Takumi transformed into Wolf Orphnach and defeated Kiba with Kiba's Horse Blade. Then, in the next scene, Mari realizes that Takumi was the person who saved her from the burning building when she was young, and I think it's a good way to tie in a flashback. I also like that the final scene ends with Mari and Takumi, who are suffering from the genetic breakdown of being Orphnoch, the snow falling from the sky, and Takumi waking up. That is when Mari finds that snow is beautiful, which is a contrast from the prologue, when she thought she hated snow. It's an excellent conclusion to Faiz's novel.
Overall, I really like the Kamen Rider Faiz novel. It is a great spin off of Kamen Rider Faiz that focuses on character interaction and backstory while adding a twist to the story that creates a new experience for Faiz's story. Again, thank you, sir for this good summary video of the Kamen Rider Faiz novel.

Finally found a good thought about this novel, I love this novel as you do. The characters and relationships are great, all their fates just literally link to each other in a smart storytelling of Inoue. I didn't find that rape scene disgusting like other readers, is just weird and eerie for a Kamen Rider franchise but wouldn't be a problem if it were the other show from America.

    • @tornadofang7663
      @tornadofang7663 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@CardistryKarakuri Yeah, I am also happy to know that there are people like you who like this novel too! I agree with all your points because the characters and their relationships with each other are really great. I also like that you point out that the characters are literally linked with each other, like how Mari fire incident ties to Takumi's past because he is the one who saved her in the fire, thus making Takumi turn into the Wolf Orphnoch because he died while trying to save Mari. Or how Kusaka and the Kaixa troop were responsible for killing Yuka, thus turning Kiba into the villain at the end of Faiz's novel (not counting the 5-year epilogue). It is indeed smart writing by Toshiki Inoue, and the ending was really beautiful.
Just like you, I don't feel disgusted by the rape scene, but it is a shame that most people heard of this novel because of the Mari rape scene, which kind of put a lot of people off. In my opinion, because of that scene, we get to see great character interaction between Takumi and Mari, and how the story progresses is, very interesting in my opinion so I wish people could read it through after the rape scene because it's the one of the big complain about in the novel. Likewise, it is good to know that there are people like you who like Kamen Rider Faiz novel.
