"Don't stop when you're tired, stop when you're done." My Dad used to say, "I'll sleep when I'm dead." Now though, he sleeps a lot more than he used to. Which is ok, because he used to be a workaholic, and me and my siblings are also like that. Only thing for me, is that I have to work like my disability doesn't bother me. God seems to let me, so that's a grace. Thank you, Father Mike.
BUT I am not good== at RESTING== on Sundays...GOD demands PHYSICAL REST. We heal when we REST. ALSO, WHEN you do a 100% REST--100% JEWISH SHABBAT rest day== then YOU MISS WORK= you MISS CLEANING== you MISS CHORES= GOD having YOU REST from your labors== GIVES YOU APPRECIATION that YOU physically CAN work.... REST PHYSICALLY!!!!
Your body requires rest. Don't try to deprive it. You don't give it what it needs it will break! I know first hand
Thank you for the words at the end of Mass, letting us know we're being prayed for, because it's likely we're going through something and that we're not alone. They were God's words of reassurance to me... thank you!
Similar - workaholic dad, and I was util I became FORCED to slow down to a depressing halt......I died, zero medical help, a lot of physical and now emotional trauma sandwich, as I was a nurse, now, I'm "nothing." I learned real hard, to slow down & stop. When we dom't stop, we ARE stopped. I worked three service jobs, taught at a gym, traveled, was high on life! Never drank coffee. I was a dopamine addict without realizing it. Funny what God uses.

Love the message about the importance of rest for being excellent. Great examples of Olympics and how all players rest. Also, how rest is recommended by God and it is a sign of all of us being free and like God. Learn to rest and not quit. We must indeed do something for joy at least once a week so that we can continue to be energized and motivated to do our daily work. Thank you so much for motivating us and reminding us, Fr. Father, I pray you take time to rest. I believe you are cloned. That is the only explanation for all you accomplish! I am 75 years old and at the other end of the spectrum. I have all kinds of time and look for ways to fill my time through volunteering and serving others. I am blessed to have time to explore my faith more deeply. In fact, that is how I got introduced to you. I stumbled upon Bible in a Year and have delved into the Bible in a way I never thought possible. God bless you now and forever 🙏🙏🙏

Fr Mike you are such a blessing ❤ thanks for praying for me im praying for you. I have just been able to return to mass after being a 24/7 caregiver for 8 years to my Momma with dementia, i was forced to place her in a home as the dementia had progressed beyond my ability. Being able to watch your mass, the Bible in a year as well as the Catechism in a year have helped so much. Still watching your mass get so much from your homilies. You are definitely a gift from God❤

so needed today, dad's caregiver and full time job outside house. Trying to get rid of the night sitter to save money to pay for day caregivers. So yes I am tired, been up 8 times last night.
Amen! I am with you. Taking care of an elderly parent is hard. My mom is 89, not only a dialysis patient but Alhzlmers also 😢
My brother & I are primary caregivers and a few days we have a professional.

I needed to hear this today. Thank you Fr Mike! I have 3 jobs and it’s very hard to get myself up when I’m off to do odds jobs around the house. Some times I end up crashing and not wanting to get up. Your homily made me feel like my resting is not worthless but reassured me that it is needed.
Father, please pray for my future son-in-law, Steve Serio#11. He will be playing on the Paralympic Wheelchair Team USA in Paris the last week of August and first week of September. 🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🙏🏻🙏🏻

Father Mike, thank you, thank you, thank you for your homily. It really hit me, I need to rest, so I decided to not do some things today. I will enjoy your talk at the National Eucharistic Congress right now, which just popped up, coincidence...hmmm. I offer this Mass for all those people that were at the National Eucharistic Congress this week. May they go out and boldy proclaim the gospel. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen!

Thank you for making these videos! I have been watching them for some time as I await the freedom to pursue RCIA.
Raised in a fundamentalist Baptist (and anti-Catholic) family, I've been confined to loving the Church Christ established from a painful distance for almost two years. Through the work of Father Mike, Word on Fire, Pints with Aquinas, and others, I became deeply convinced of the sacraments and the papacy.
After sitting on feelings of tension and disobedience to God for half of my journey thus far, I made the precarious legwork to visit my local parish a year ago in secret for Sunday Mass, but the priest there told me that he could not receive me until my parents gave approval or I became an adult. That being said, I obeyed, and after all this time of waiting and watching virtual Mass, I'll make a very difficult but long-awaited transition to the Catholic Church next month. The funniest part to me (though most comforting in times of doubt and desolation) is that I had an experience with the Eucharist during that consecration, which only intensified the tugging on my heart and wiped clean any remaining objections hanging over my mind.
Please pray that my family will come to understand my decision and that my journey to the Church Christ established will help others to ask the same questions I did. God bless the Ascension team and anyone else reading this!

I'm here recovering from some minor surgery. How fitting that Fr. Mike Schmitz talked about rest. I guess I'll be learning how to rest for the next couple days.
I also had knee surgery. Rest is importance. Tonight I am in hospital and it is hard for me to rest. I am giving my pain and restlessness to all the poor souls. God be with people that are sick, in hospital and dying. Thank you Fr Mike.

Dear Lord, I come to You today asking for Your guidance and blessings on my long distance relationship with my fiance . I know that distance can be challenging, but I trust that with Your help, I can overcome any obstacle.
I ask that You would bring us closer together, both emotionally and spiritually. I pray that You would give me the strength to trust in him and to communicate openly and honestly.
I ask that You would give me patience, understanding and forgiveness for him, as we navigate the distance and the challenges that come with it. I pray that You would give me the wisdom to make the most of the time we have together, and to make the most of the time we have apart.
I ask that You would give me the courage to make sacrifices for him, and to put his needs before my own. I pray that You would give me the strength to trust in Your plan for our relationship and to trust in Your timing.
I ask that You would watch over us, and keep us safe, and that You would guide me in my journey with him. I trust in Your love and Your goodness, and I know that You are always with me, even when we are apart.

Gracious and loving God, we thank you for the gift of our priest.
Through them, we experience your presence in the sacraments.
Help our priest to be strong in their vocation.
Set their souls on fire with love for your people.
Grant them the wisdom, understanding, and strength they need to follow in the footsteps of Jesus.
Inspire them with the vision of your Kingdom.

Father Schmitz, please pray for Vano and Houston. These are grown men that are not getting along and should be working together and might end up in blows. Sometimes, people keep themselves busy because "doing" is addiction, Fr Mike. A drug. We are so extreme.....many are addicted to dopamine via busyness, others, to alcohol, food, sex/porm, etc. Key again is the "why" behind the what so we may tackle what needs to be. A lot of people are addicted to....doing. Distraction. It's a big problem, and I'm glad you said 'scrolling' because I lost many friends & family to the screens. I refuse to be a robot..

I and my brothers, and my family have been going through some rough times.
My brother is currently homeless and jobless, and he has a wife a child. I myself and am struggling with my mental health, I have had 5 mental breakdowns in the past 5 years that have really put my life at risk.
I hope things will get better, but Im struggling to find any balance in my life.

Twisted and distorted views of God-- you probably coulda fairly added to that list, you know.
Especially given that all the deities mentioned in Genesis are most certainly one and the exact same as the ones we're clumping together and referring to as our singular, triune, "God". Which, by-the-bye, are all also well known Mesopotamian, Ugaritic, Egyptian, Canaanite, and Levinetine deities (not to mention the Anatolian ones or the deeper into Africa ones) that all bear horns and contemporaniously go by the names of demonic and/or pagan entities.
Christ mentioned how a shepherd might save a sheep even on the Sabbath...because resting is not one and the same as agregious and willful neglect, thus, if a rule exists that leads you to ignore and neglect, scorn and/or ridicule those who require care and commitment then such a rule could not be from Christ, not His Father, and, for surely, not the Holy Spirit.
If the Father (Christ's Father) had given the Sabbath for resting; for not touching and/or lifting a finger, Christ wouldn't have said it is right and good to lift. However, He did say it was good. Thus, it can be, and rightfully should be, concluded that the real Father did not ever give over such a lackadaisical day to anyone, ever.
