  • This man Ferlin Husky was one of country music's true legends, not only did he have that great song "GONE" his imitation of Simon Crum is truly legendary plus his generosity to other up and coming musical stars is to be admired!

    Old fashioned good folks and good music. Wish this type of a get-a-long was "infectious" as Ferlin used to say. Sure could use a dose or two in this old world today.

    My dad owned a demo 45 of Simon Crum singing "Cuz You're So Sweet" and "My Gallina" back in the mid '50s and we kids played it to death. It got tossed in a move and I thought I'd never hear them again but with the miracle of TH-cam... I never knew Ferlin Husky was Simon Crum. What a great pleasure this interview was.

    I love Ferlin. Growing up I thought Simon was in my family.
    Understood everything he did. It was years later, I cried like a baby when I heard Mr. Husky say, Simon is no longer with us. As An Adult, all I can say is, Mr. Ferlin Husky was & is a great inspiration. A Legend in our time. Thank You, Ferlin, for all you did, for all you gave. We love Ya!! 🎲

    I was asked to help mime a Ferlin song with a week-end female comic and that was my first acquaintence with Ferlin. We were so popular doing this that we were requested when reunion time or convention time came around to do our part, on the Jersey shore. Watching this helps me get reacquainted with this man's talent. I do not know what or where my partner is today, but I am 80+ and she just may be interviewing Ferlin up yonder. I went on to be a Disc Jockey and a talent scout for a radio station just starting up in CA. I also was the first, back then, to do a live remote show on radio during Rodeo Days What a hoot that was. They used the gray portable jail house where they jailed those not dressed western for me to do my show. Talk about comedy. I had to lasoo people just get them to come close enough to the "jail" to do an interview with me. It was a drive for the Heart Association and they hung plastic hearts around the jail for people to donate. Very little was collected that way but the show brought in a bumper crop of dollars and went over the top of last years collection. My station boss was thrilled because it was great PR for the station. The station was awarded a beautiful certificate of achievement that hung on the station walls along side my ham radio license. For all I know it could still be there.

    Simon Crum was his real name. He was born Simon Crum. He was a cousin of mine. No bull. He would come and visit my great grandparents and my father - who would never lie- remembers these days. I guess Ferlin changed the story and his real name IS Simon Crum. Maybe he didnt want to be associated with regular folks I have no idea . Nothing against him. He was a wonderful man. But My great Grandma Crum would not have lied either! Her name was Texie Anna Crum. No 'B'. Just Crum.. but ah well... i adore his singing to bits. ♥

    • @heyhey1956
      @heyhey1956  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You're 100% correct he was born Ferlin Eugene Husky if you listen to what Ferlin even says in this clip above, during World War II, Husky served in the United States Merchant Marine for five years, entertaining troops on transport ships. His Simon Crum character evolved from stories he told at the time about a Missouri neighbor named Simon Crump. After the war, Husky continued to develop the Crum character while working as a disc jockey in Missouri and then Bakersfield, California in the late 1940s www.ferlinhusky.com/Simon_Crum.html

      The lady behind Ferlin is Mandy Barnett and believe me none of the people in this group were confusing or perplexing to Mandy at all, I thoroughly believe Mandy who is no girl, she's 46 years old now and has study early country music since she was very young, Mandy was the star of the Patsy Cline tribute show, she just wishes she could have lived the experiences these people went through! th-cam.com/video/q_Iv6-UeT2k/w-d-xo.html The sad part every time I watch the Country's Family Reunion at the Ryman series I think out of all the stars in this group at least 15 of them have gone home! th-cam.com/video/uvPsv-C6b3Y/w-d-xo.html
